This is rather embarrassing for Facebook.

Begun, the memetic wars have.

Which is why I believe that in the long run, organizations like Wikileaks absolutely must continue to be total assholes to everyone, so that objective truth can still be found.

Begun? What? Smear campaigns aren't new.

Smear campaigns are one thing.

Expecting them to stick is another thing.

I'm not surprised that they're doing it; I'm surprised by the amateurishness of it.

Of course, it could actually be Google setting up Facebook to look like the bad guys ...

And I will smile, knowing that not once have I ever had the smallest desire to have a Facebook account.

Seriously, its amazing how willingly people offer their privacy up on facebook.

^I've enabled every privacy restriction I could find. Unfortunately, there's not much you can do about what other people post.

... not even mentioning why they'd want do something like this, it's more like why they'd even try in the first place. Facebook may be huge, but Google is God. And they're certainly not a social network.

I mean, I'm not against Facebook. When the day gets boring, I go on there to see what inanities others put up there, and it's generally a good communication tool (being 'mainstream' helps). But this is certainly not very nice at all. Not wise either.

Seriously, smearing Google. How much dumber can it get?

Google's made several (failed) attempts at forays into social networking-Google buzz, Google TV, Wave, etc. It's widely known that they'll be competing with Facebook eventually, and given that they're Google they represent one of the few actual challenges Facebook could face.

The reason Facebook hates Google is that Facebook wants to be Google. Zuckerberg dreams of making Facebook the core of the Internet, using social data and friend recommendations to guide users to the things they want.

Which is a terrible idea. But that won't stop him from trying.

Let's just hope they never learn to settle their differences and get to screwing the rest of us together.

If Facebook becomes the new google I quit the internet.
