Our prom is the 18th.
For a very long time I was adamant about not wanting to go. The last few weeks, I've actually been able to say I'm proud of my class and the council, especially after the very successful and fun senior prank.
After getting past the "I don't want to go" phase, I entered the "I don't even have the money to phase." Luckily, I'm getting lots of graduation money, so there's no problem there.
I'm currently looking for a date.
We have an official afterprom, specifically to try and prevent the drugs and sex and drinking. It's literally all night long, and looks to be ALOT of fun, with the mechanical bull and such.
Just got back from our prom. Man, it was so much fun. I mostly hung out with my friends, since I wasn't expecting to dance with anyone, but I did end up dancing with a girl at one point. Since I didn't know how to dance, I let her lead, but wow, it was so much fun.
So, yeah, great experience, all things said.

We always had formal after-parties. I only know this because of how much the school stressed that they weren't an official event, and the school wasn't to blame if somebody got drunk and totalled their car or something.
Be not afraid...
