The thing that struck me was that the religious groups are seeing it as a violation of religious freedom. Well, what about the personal freedom to choose what happens to your dick yourself?

What are your thoughts on the issue?

Doesn't bother me much one way or the other. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the medical benefits are debatable at best (doctors seem to disagree about how useful it actually is).

Circumcision does have some health benefits such as the reduced risk of urinary tract infections. (Especially in early childhood.)

Also, the earlier you do it, the less risk of permanent scarring and adverse side effects. Go on see what happens if you get cut at 25 compared to getting cut at 2 hours old.

Tom: Actually I heard that two hours is a bit too young, and that it is usually best to wait a couple of days.

Discourage it and get out the word that all the "health benefits" are a myth, but don't outright ban it.

I just don't understand the tendency to circumcise (non-Jewish and non-Muslim) boys in America at all. You don't get that in Europe.

I see. As I understand it, it's far more common in the States than in Europe. Not sure why that would be, but there it is. I'm uncircumcised, for the record, and have yet to encounter difficulty.

I heard the benefits don't outweigh the risk of unnecessary surgery, and since the risk from that is itself trivial, I doubt it matters either way.

I don't think it should be a big deal. Not really opposed to a ban, but I don't care enough to feel supportive of it, either.

Circumcision is disgusting, but if it's banned, then parents will probably resort to much more Squicky do-it-yourself methods.

[up] Hit it on the head.

This is the same reason why we should not ban abortion and make the option more available to everyone.

I have no fucking clue anymore about the benefits and negatives of this. I do know that people will keep doing it by themselves if it is banned though and that could lead to unnecessary death and shit so banning it isn't a smart choice as far as I can tell.

[up] And vice-versa. Circumcision is not at all common in Western Europe.

Positives: Men will stop bitching about their circumcisions.

Negatives: Men who need to get circumcised for health reasons are going to find life more difficult.

[up][up] Which makes my point. Cultures are different. Theres zero reason to bicker over it.

People in America also think that the sight of breasts traumatizes children, so yeah.

[up][up] Good point, I forgot about that. Another reason not to ban circumcision.

You werent. But this may be the 900th discussion I've seen about this on the internet and it basically always ends up just being a shouting match of people going "I DONT LIKE IT" "WELL I DONT LIKE YOUR OPINION EITHER"

I would be more okay with non-circumcised men if we started actually teaching proper hygiene. Every guy that I've dated, who wasn't cut, had the most disgusting dicks ever, because apparently nobody teaches them how to clean the dang things right.
