"That...was underwhelming..." Gene thought, his first field engagement not off to a thrilling start. A single drop of sweat rolled down his forehead, and he swore there was one on L-Rachne too.

Then he realized, someone was talking to him, and not only that; they were leaving themselves wide open!
"WHO THE HELL DO YOU THINK I AM!?" he bellowed. "I'm Gene Hirozuki, call-sign 'Creed,' but let's save the introductions for later!"

With that, checking that the cloak system was still active[1], Gene closed in on his mark

[2], and unloaded again[3,4].

"What the heck?" Dennis peaked his head up from firing on the damaged turret to look over at the newcomer, "why all the shouting?"

"Leaving that aside, You came in asking for orders then went in to assault anyway? Either you're on the multiple frequencies or you should calm down," Mary chided, leaving down her weapon as she looked over at the new comer on her peripheral camera.

"This section is won, the only real question is whether they turn back and dig in or let us keep advancing on their rear," Yasan grunted as he cracked his knuckles in the cockpit, "For now, let's hold here and look at our position. I want damage and status reports from each of you and don't half ass it."

The Howitzers were isolated and pinned down, destroyed by the combined efforts of the squads very easily.

Phil moved in on the kill for the Legion, only to find himself dodging Kiera's sniper fire, though Kiera was caught off guard by the attack, she managed to damage the Frame twice. Phil sliced in for the kill, on the Legion which struggled to return fire before ejecting. The other

Legion made it's shots surprisingly well, further damaging Phil; forcing him to eject.

"Looks like I'm not making it any farther on this one," Phil spoke up from the comm of his landed pod, "Good luck guys."

The sound of crunching potato chips was audiable before he turned off the radio.

"Fuck yeah, explosions!" Lilith roared, watching the Howitzers go boom.

"Where's the last one? I got 'em, I got 'em!" Catching a second wind, Lilith rapidly punched in commands like a hummingbird on shady drugs, scanning the area [1] and charging forward from behind cover [2].

"Let's rock and roll, let's rock and roll! Bet you can't get me before we kick your ass ten ways from Sunday! Not now that it's only a matter of doing the kicking!"

Spurred on by the changing tide, she reverted to her usual reckless abandon, confident and, of course, eager to stop Calvin's kill count from going higher.

Calvin's fingers trembled on the controls as the howitzer bit the dust. He panted slightly, a grin still plastered on his face. He checked his sensors, and noted one remaining opponent.

His hands tightened. One more for the record baby? He asked his Frame mentally, and chuckled. Nah, don't want to scratch your paint. He patted his armrest. Plus, we gotta give the other some kills don't we?

He could've sworn he heard his baby reply No, we don't., but it was just him.

He laughed again, and moved out of cover, seeing little point to remain where he was[1]. He let loose a stream of fire at the remaining Legion [2, Rapidfire] just in case it got any ideas.

The poor bastard inside the cockpit had only a few seconds and a couple choice words before his frame was torn to shreds by a hail of bullets and explosives. Dennis managed to score the last hit, causing an explosion in the already heavily damaged craft.

"This is Hunting. Cents have dug in further north. The elevator isn't far from our position and we're being asked to partipate in the final push. You have all achieved your objective and done the Federation proud, you may call in and be relieved now. However Command wishes me to inform you that less battle damage squads are encouraged to continue the push if they feel it possible since it may improve our chances. "More combat?" Lilith blurted out in disbelief. "But we just got out of the frying pan!"

Running some checks on her frame, she shook her head. Like hell was she going to go on this badly damaged...

But still, a final push, a climactic battle. How could she sit this one out...?

Very easily, if her life held any weight.

And yet she was pretty much dead as soon as she got her papers.

Fuck. What kind of choice was this?

"Alright..." Lilith responded, trying to narrow her vision down to the task in front of her. Survive this, and be a war hero, and get some more leave.

Don't, and waste a chance to live to fight another day.

"I'll go if everyone else will. Our bastard superiors are going to wring us dry one way or another anyhow. Fighting for some piece of shit rock out in the middle of who the hell knows where, just so it won't belong to the enemy." She snorted, her frustration evident. "Who the hell knows what we're fighting for, anyway? I sure as hell don't. But what the hell? It's a chance to fight, so what's the why matter?"

She paused, and thought for another moment.

"Fuck this. Don't give me the why. Tell me when and where, and you've got yourself another life to throw away."

Calvin's adrenaline high was still going, and he didn't even need to think for a moment before replying. Not that he ever did anyway.

"I'm all for making more scrap metal!" Calvin responded."My baby ain't taken a scratch yet! What comes after Ace again?" He blustered cockily. "I wanna find out!" He grinned widely again.

He had his baby, his gun, and a possibility to smash more enemies. All he needed now was a hundred scantily clad women and he'd be set.

Battle for Kalm, Part II: All Things Kalm on the Northern Front: The Final Drive

February 17th, 2999. 8:45 AM.

They moved past the ruins of the battle, damaged Centauri frames, some still alight, other still functional but not in condition to retreat fast enough. Behind them, infantry made the advance, largely unopposed, marching out Centauri prisonners and equipment.

The shelling slowed temporarily to reorient itself during the retreat but now continued in full force. The shells flew over their head and the explosions and smoke lead the way.

They arrived before one of the last major roads before seaboard where the remaining Cents were boxed in, by the name of Sellkvegen. In the distance the Space Elevator kissed the sky, but the base was hidden still. The buildings on this side were more damaged than the rest of the city before. It had been under concentrated shelling of the entire forces for some time. Skyscrapers lay draped accross the ground. In nearly every window laid howitzers, aimed forward. The remaining frames were in good condition but most were light, Spitefuls and other Light frames pulled from the front. Reserves remained but most were Space models pulled from the front, Hives and Invokes, dug in to avoid too much movement.

They would be able to approach first but the enemy was heavily fortified.

"Alright, we don't have the numbers to blow past this, at least not without loosing half of you," Yasan said, "We're going to have to not do anything stupid. Snipers, keep back, take out anything that twitches. Focus on Heavier frames if you can see them. I'll snipe hunt, Newbie, Alchemist you're with me. Full Metal, Foxtrot 7, Sunrise support from here. Foxtrot, try to aim if you want to hit worth a damn. Keep an eye out for snipe hunters and see who you can knock out."

Calvin's fingers tightened again around his controls as the flight approached the massed defenders amid the destruction, his skin white from the pressure. The landscape around them was even more hellish than the last, shattered buildings and rubble filled the streets.

Ahead the gleaming spire of the Space Elevator loomed, it's shining metal bulk taunting in it's proximity, secure behind a wall of Frames and artillery, it's surface the same color as Calvin imagined his giant medal would be if he brought it down.

He shook himself out of his daydream before the women came. Now was not the time, he reminded himself.

He scanned the rubble as they moved forward, alert and growing more nervous as they traveled closer to the elevator. His heart beat nonstop in his chest, and he was sure there was a Frame or a dozen just waiting to pop up and ambush them. It was somewhat of a relief when they closed into range with the fortifications and were faced with an actual visible enemy.

He took a deep breath as Yasan rattled out orders, and patted the side of his cockpit. Let's go baby. He thought. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

He settled back into his chair as Yasan finished. Showtime. He thought grimly.

"Understood sir." He said, his voice curt. "We'll try to draw attention and distract them while you flank them."

He swiveled the Cobalt and his KRAG and let loose a barrage at one of the howitzer's residing in the blown out balcony of an apartment building [1, Fire at Howitzer], then threw the massive bulk of his Frame into cover behind a collapsed building to his left.[2, Take Full Cover]

He gritted his teeth as he slid into cover. Do it for the ladies, Calvin. He told himself. Ladies need a hero.

February 17th, 2999. 8:45 AM.

The first salvo was less than impressive but Dennis' shots were anwsered with an explosion. A Howitzer had been totalled.

"Yo. Two-Four, Two-Six and Ol' Three Seven are bringing the Garnet brimstone from on high. Don't let them squeeze though and we'll tear them to shreds or until we run out of ammo."

Salvos flew from on high, Garnet once more had their backs. Few others had managed to relocate as quickly or were willing to pull as far forward to support them.
