He doesn't even belong to Earth really, he just chose to stay here and protect the people he sees so much value in, meaning that, yeah, Earth is his home, but it definitely doesn't really "have" him as it's his choice to stay.
Plus, I figure Superman is like the pinnacle of all things idealistically sentient, so it only fits that he helps the world.
The thing about making witty signature lines is that it first needs to actually be witty.
