I started playing Terraria this past week for the first time, and have enjoyed it a lot! The only thing I feel like I'm missing out on is the mulitplayer, as I've got no friends to play with. ;(

Is it normal for my first reaction to being able to build cactus furniture, "I'm building my house out of this." ?

I like making Ice and Living Wood furniture.

My npcs are lucky to have more than a table, chair and torch in their rooms, and luckier still to have those rooms made out of any sort of cosmetic block. I build for function in Terraria over style.

Admittedly, I've had a bit of a housing structure involving the granite material, and to say that I like granite is an understatement. It just looks so futuristic, that I aimed for a flying fortress made of granite. (Using glass for windows to boot.)

I've also trumped plantera and the other mechanical bosses. Unfortunately, Golem's stopped me cold. I also don't think I can cheeseball him as well as I did back in the day, given he loves to laser above or below me, let alone bypass the wooden platforms. One of these days, I'll take down the golem.

[up] Hoist him by his own petard: use the traps about the dungeon you fight him in.

Also, tips for mech bosses?

My NPC houses are a stack of near-identical rooms stacked so high they reach into space. So yeah.

Piercing weapons annihilate The Destroyer, especially when it crosses over itself. The cross necklace drop from Mimics will vastly reduce the damage you take from it.

Kill Plazmataz before enraging Retinazer and kite them in the air with Gravitation potions.

Keep Skeletron Prime at a distance and focus on the head. The arms are superfluous. Focus on dodging until he starts to spin his head towards you, then unload damage into him since his defence drops whilst perform this attack. Same as regular Skeletron.

In all three cases, buffs and arena usage is highly recommended.

I started a new character and went Expert on a Large map. This is going to be fun. It's awesome that the villagers now have bows, so they can fight alongside you to a point.

If your damage is high enough, you should focus on Skeletron Prime's limbs, even destroying one will do great for your survivablity, and destroying all four makes him pitifully easy, especially if you have a yoyo or a nimbus rod (or both).

Destroyer, just build a row of platforms up high, as high as you can fly in a single jump. It won't be able to reach you.

For the Twins, Spazmatism will shoot flames from the side, leaving himself still long enough for you to pound on it. Once it loses its 'shell', keep away when it uses its flames, and close in just enough to see it and wail on it then. Once it's dead focus on Retinazor, you'll have to dodge well as it shoots lasers at you.

This is all coming from someone who beat them as a Summoner, who beat the Twins first for those Minions.

[up] It kills Skeletron Prime pretty good too. Better than the Megashark with crystal bullets, no seriously! Also I'm not the only one who thinks Medusas are the most annoying enemy in the game?

@k0n9: You're not alone. The fact you can suddenly be able to die to fall damage despite fall damage negaters being in effect is what really makes them Goddamned Bats category for me.

[up]I feel like that should be changed. Not only does it suck to have your fall damage negators suddenly not work, but it actually makes less sense for stone to take damage.

Any final fantasy fan can tell you that physical damage to petrified entities causes them to shatter. wink

[up][up][up]Literally Shattered Lives. Also reminds me of God Of War, if Kratos is in mid-air when he's petrified by a Gorgon, he falls to the ground and shatters instantly.

It makes perfect sense for solid, unflexible objects to shatter. If an object cannot flex or bend to adsorb and spread the force of impact, it has to release that energy somehow, which it does by shattering.

That's why certain materials, such the metals used to make cars or the structural designs for skyscrapers, are designed to bend and buckle to a certain extent: it helps reduce the force upon the entire structure.

Well honestly it would make more sense for these breaks to simply free you early, because if you shattered entirely from impact then that means you were turned into stone, and are no longer alive.

No point in questioning the logic behind a Medusa spell. Cause if it's your skin, or some sort of outer "crust" that covers you in stone, then there comes of the question of why aren't you suffocating. Or for that matter, what causes the spell to materialize in the first place...
