We voted on the possible names. This is what won. We don't really have a way to tell intentional from unintentional without Word of God, and it doesn't take into account that a large number of what people call mistakes are really made as shortcuts for the sake of the story.

What happened to X Goof? You Fail Physics Forever is no Physics Goof, so why not rename this to Biology Goof?
It didn't win the crowner. I'm not sure why it got turned into Physics Goof. It should not have been. I think someone must have jumped the gun on that one.

The only thread I saw about renaming (after it was already decided) was the one where the choices were between minor variations of Artistic License.
That was the last crowner after we'd had a crowner to decide what to rename it but were bickering about the punctuation.
You mean somewhere in the massive 494 post thread? Which, I should note, is the continuation of another thread? I looked at that when it first started; everyone was talking about renaming them to X Goof, and then things started getting renamed to X Goof. I assumed it was settled. Then everything got renamed Artistic License.

Yes, in that 494-post thread you'll find quite a discussion on why "goof" was changed to Artistic License.

I understand that this was renamed from You Fail Biology Forever because the mods didn't like it, and that's just all there is to it. That's fine, and I'm not suggesting any fighting over that. What I don't understand is why it was renamed to "Artistic License." I was under the impression it was going to be renamed "Biology Goof."
Artistic license implies something very different than a goof. Artistic license implies that it was intentional. Which, of course, is a trope—one we already have. Art Major Biology and Art Major Physics cover everything this name implies, and they do so without confusion. You Fail Biology Forever makes it clear that someone made a mistake—either in-universe or the author Did Not Do The Research, it's not really important which.
No one tries to pretend Spore is an accurate depiction of evolution. That's why it falls under Art Major Biology instead of Biology Goof.
The point I'm trying to make is that although I didn't see the point of these tropes being renamed from "You Fail X Forever," at least "X Goof" still kept the same meaning. Artistic License is something else entirely. And about half the tropes are named one and the other half the other, but I assume that is because converting them got stalled.
Oh, and I searched for an existing thread but couldn't find one, so if there is one if someone could just post the link so I can hop in on that...
