Sore Ear w/ Glasses

Okay, so I did a lookup on sore bumps behind the ears because I have one behind mine. The most likely answer, it seems, is a swollen lymph node, and the best treatment is just to leave it alone.

Unfortunately, I kinda wear glasses, and the glasses are making the bump more sore because they rub up against it. And once it gets sore, I start picking at it because I'm fidgety. Any tips for a glasses-wearer?

If it's not too uncomfortable, lift them off your ears, and just have the nose-pieces hold your glasses in place. So long as you're not doing anything too strenuous, the glasses shouldn't fall...

After about a day or two of that, it should be fine.

Wait, so you mean like disassemble the ear parts?

No. Lift them up so the glasses themselves are angled down, rather than straight, so the parts that touch the ear are not doing so(but rather pressing against the side of the head), and the only thing really keeping the glasses in place are the nose-pieces.

Again, it's an option if it's not uncomfortable to do so...

From a guy who wore glasses from 4 to 32: Switch to contacts, if you can.

I only keep my glasses handy in case I ever get pink-eye or I have a nasty case of the flu, but it's wierd going back to glasses now, even for only a day or two every few months. After I got over the initial discomfort of removing the lens from my eyeball, it was smooth-sailing. I still need a mirror to put them in and take them out, though. All the bennies of lasik sugery, without any surgery. Cheap, too.

If you can't switch over, you might want to look into getting different frames that sit differently on your ears. Picking frames was always a bit hit-or-miss with me - the ones that looked good were uncomfortable, and the comfortable ones looked stupid. Go figure, right?

Or you could apply some lotion, the sore skin might be a combination of too heavy and unbalanced glasses combined with dry skin.
Of course, lenses are quite superior <3
Unless you get a pair of really goodlooking glasses <3

My dad has lectured me about this over and over. I'm very sensitive about things in my face or on my eyes. You usually need to literally pin me down to get eye drops into my eyes - it gives my ophthalmologist a headache when I come in for check-ups. Contacts are pretty much a nonstarter.

Will lotion work even with really thick hair?

I used to think contacts were a nonstarter, too. I hated eyedrops, even when I was the one giving them to myself, that's how bad I was.

It gets much easier over time. First couple of weeks was a bit rough, but I was determined to make it work.

I had to - my glasses were broke and I got bills to pay and mouths to feed.

Why would you smear out lotion all over your hair?

Go to the place you bought your glasses(or any place), or to your eye doctor, they can refit them for you, sounds like your glasses are too tight in general, which causes the bumps. Failing that, if you have a metal frame, you can heat your glasses yourself and widen them, though that can be more trouble than it is worth if you don't know how to get a good fit.

This is an easy fix though.

del diablo,

Well, I mean, the bump's really close to my hair line.

Are you sure it's a lymph node that's swelling? It could be an underground pimple or something like that.

No, I'm not sure. I'm just trying to guess from what I can figure out. It's in a spot where I can't even look at it in a mirror.

I ask because swollen lymph nodes often indicate an underlying disease. If it doesn't go away soon I would see a doctor.

It could be any number of things; a pimple like I mentioned, or some sort of fatty cyst.

I don't suppose you could try wearing your glasses outside your ears for brief periods?

A pimple might make sense. I get those under the hairline every so often. If I could take a look at it in a mirror or something, I could probably figure something out. I'm at college right now, though (without a roommate) and feel awkward asking someone else on the floor if they could take a look for me. Is there a better way than that? tongue

Ok, let me repeat this again, your problem is almost certainly caused by your glasses being too tight. I've had the same problem before. If you go to a person who can refit your glasses, chances are the problem will go away. If it doesn't, I suppose you can worry then, but really, odds are it's a horse, not a zebra, and it is just your glasses are too tight.

Okay then. I'll head to the mall tomorrow to see if that fixes it. Thank you for the advice! waii

Clevomon: I still don't see where you get the idea of smearing lotion all over your hair from.
Basically you remove your glasses, get 4-5 droplets of lotion on your finger, and smear it over your ear where the glasses was positioned, and smear any leftovers over the ear.
Not terribly complex, and your ears also become less dry.-
