"I've accepted that this is what i am, Deimos. Theres no avoiding it. I'm a killer. Its trying to go back to what i never was that i can't grasp."
"You lost, Dio. You lost for one simple reason - you were using charcoal." - Hank Hill"Yes. Many thanks."
His tone was dripping with sarcasm.
Von Geist may not have been very tolerant of other species, but to say he was lacking understanding as to their biology or genetic make up would be a gross mistake.
"I have had a large degree of experience with the treating of other species. Let's leave it at that."
Far from one to be ashamed of the work he'd done, Von Geist would've simply prefered to avoid giving Marik the details. The "work" he'd done with other races was entirely practical, but he doubted the turian would appreciate learning the specifics. Something about him told Von Geist he just wouldn't appreciate the necessities dictated by the advancement of science.
Marik shrugged. "Okay, I was just making sure. I have much respect for my Alliance colleagues, as I know they are taught to treat other races, just as I was in the Hierarchy. I was unaware Cerberus offered the same training."

Support Gravitaz on Kickstarter!"No, you can't ever go completely back. I agree." He paused for a bit. "But you can reconcile the two. What you were before wasn't a lie at the time. It was real to you. Knowing new things about yourself doesn't change the fact that it was still you."
Nothing to see here. Move along."Of a sort."
That was all he was willing to say. At least to Marik. The turian didn't have the capacity to appreciate the hows and whys.
"I see," the turian replied flatly.
After making sure the salarian was comfortable, Marik began tending to the poisoned turian.
"So are you still a part of Cerberus?"
Support Gravitaz on Kickstarter!"It wasn't me, Deimos. The memories i had, that i still have, that i thought i had were all fake. The only thing any of us knows that is me is that i'm an assassin. Everything else is Lucas. And the only way i can stop being me is to swap places and be Lucas, deliberately act as him and let him be me. I'm living his life, he's living mine."
Beside him, Rook silently nodded.
"You lost, Dio. You lost for one simple reason - you were using charcoal." - Hank Hill"I - what?" Deimos said, now horribly confused. He had been thoroughly prepared to listen and try to see where Lucas was coming from, but this was a curveball. "Swap places with... what are you talking about, Lucas?" he said, a quizzical look crossing his face.

Nothing to see here. Move along."Er... maybe that wasn't as simple as i thought it would be." After a moment, Lucas looks to the side at Rook. "How do i...?" Rook simply shrugs. "Right..." Turning back to Deimos, Lucas tries to simplify it. "Basically, im a killer that had to... take up a new identity- Lucas Kinsler. Now that i know what i am, the only way to keep from going back is to... keep being Lucas Kinsler and let him be me."
"You lost, Dio. You lost for one simple reason - you were using charcoal." - Hank HillDeimos nodded. It still wasn't entirely clear, but at least he understood what Lucas was trying to get at. "So... what happens if you, um, stop being eachother?" he said. "I didn't phrase that too well. What if you stop being Lucas Kinsler, and go back?" he asked, taking a swig of Tupari.

Nothing to see here. Move along.Von Geist was content to linger, letting Marik do the brunt of the work while he provided any needed support or assistance. He was capable medically, but all the same, it seemed imprudent to step on the turian's toes.
"No. I parted ways with the organization. Call it a... desire to undertake independent research. Travel to exotic locations. Meet new lifeforms and dissect them."
He let another beat pass before stating, "A joke."
The turian might well have assumed otherwise had he not cleared the air.
Marik smiled. "Of course." He flushed the toxin from the turian's bloodstream. "It's nice to know that you cut ties with them, for whatever reason. I don't trust that Illustrious Man or his ideals."
Support Gravitaz on Kickstarter!"Honestly, neither of us know or would like to. Maybe i need to rephrase this a bit more: neither of us act as me. We control me. Like... its like if you went completely crazy, then were lobotomized and became mindless. Then, by a freak of nature, you develop a nicer personality. Thats actually impossible to do, but follow me in this analogy. Then, the nice personality finds out about their origins, and it begins to resurface. Instead of going back, however, you and your newly developed nice personality work together to repurpose the craziness so you don't go back to it, but you use it for a better purpose. Thats what we're going through. Lucas is helping me not go back to what i was by being Rook and i become Lucas."
"You lost, Dio. You lost for one simple reason - you were using charcoal." - Hank Hill"I'd be surprised if you did."
The comment wasn't aimed to sully Cerberus or Marik. Von Geist would have genuinely been shocked had the alien viewed anti-alien sentiments with anything approaching positive regard. Far from being "understanding" or "accomodating", it would have been suicidal. Why accept or tolerate something that could lead to ones eradication?
"The Illusive Man works toward the greater good of humanity. He supported my research and gave me projects that fit my personal sentiments. I can't be ungrateful."
"Ah, I see. That's interesting... it almost sounds as if you've become... disconnected, as my people would say," said Deimos.
I DON'T TRUST THAT RECLUSIVE MAN.

Nothing to see here. Move along."Well, you could." Una added. "Sure, it'd be unreasonable but..." her omnitool beeped, cutting her off "Oh fuck's sake. There's a scrap in the crew quarters. Gotta go look to that." She said, pacing to the door and towards the main crew quarters. It was just as she had expected. A crew like this could not live under such conditions this long without getting ornery, she was just a little surprised that she wasn't the first to snap.
Liveblog | DeadblogMarik unconsciously nodded. "Yes, I could understand how research grants could buy loyalty. And it helps that you share many of his same ideals." The Doctor tried to keep the bitterness out of his voice.
Support Gravitaz on Kickstarter!Lucas looks directly at Rook. After a moment of mental communication, Lucas looks back at Deimos. "Disconnected? We don't understand what you mean."
"You lost, Dio. You lost for one simple reason - you were using charcoal." - Hank HillDeimos was getting a little worried, now that Lucas was referring to himself as two people, and... talking to something he couldn't see. Well, he was trying not to write him off yet, he took another shot.
"I guess you could say when the soul... fractures, I guess?" Deimos said, for lack of better terminology. "In your case, instead of simply become split from your body, your personality has become fractured in two."
Nothing to see here. Move along. There was another moment of silence as well as a look to the side and back to Deimos. "...That... sounds close to what i can best describe it as. I think instead of it splitting in two, its more like it... let a soul in."
"You lost, Dio. You lost for one simple reason - you were using charcoal." - Hank HillVon Geist gave Una the smallest of nods as she left. She'd been quite pleasant. For an alien.
"The work itself was reward enough. Some people balk from it. They haven't the stomach. I... enjoy it."
Nodding slightly, "But yes. We see eye to eye on a great many things. He is charismatic and intelligent. He works toward the advancement of humanity far more effectively than the Alliance ever could."
Busying himself with a quick scan of the still unconscious salarian, he checked for any fractures or breakages. If only to keep himself occupied if nothing else.
"What do you think of the Asarian?"
He didn't even look up when he asked the question, but he'd heard a little and seen a bit. Enough to build a theory. Enough to become curious.

In the crew quarters, Una didn't need long to understand what was going on. Crewmates were gathered in a ring shouting encouragements at two guys in the center who, by the sound of it, was duking it out, hand to hand. "Alright guys, that's quite enough of that." Her voice was as stern as she could make it sound without exaggeration as she pulled two of the people in the ring away, revealing none other than the engineer, Isaac Mazzy, and some turian she did not know by name wail away at each other. Una glowed blue as she raised a biotic shield between them, cutting the conflict short, much to the displeasure of the watchers.
Liveblog | DeadblogDeimos nodded. Strange... What does he keep looking over at? "I've gotta admit, even though I like to play therapist," Deimos said with a small smile, "Marik would probably be better suited to help you with this," he offered up helpfully, unable to say much more on the matter.
Nothing to see here. Move along.Marik shrugged as he continued healing the turian. "She's dependable, funny if you can handle her sarcasm, all around good to be around. She's also been improving her temperament a lot recently. Why do you ask?"

Marik smiled at Una's intervention. "Thanks for clearing that up for him, Una." Wow, those skinfolds look like female turians' crests...
"By the way, von Geist, have you ever treated any non-humans? It doesn't seem like it, no offense."
