So, some friends and I were discussing the logical impossiblity of half the stuff Beowulf does and says he did in the original story, such as killing monsters in full byrnie underwater, with an apparently rust-proof sword. How could he do that?

You know who else kills monsters underwater and holds his breath for a long time? Tidus. And Wakka. And Jecht.

Then our discussion turned to the impossibility of the blitzball sport. Water is much more resistant than air, so it takes a lot more strength to pass a ball underwater than in the air, strength that the average human being does not have. That ball also needs to be at least as dense as the water, so that it does not just float back up to the surface.

Our conclusion on that? The people of Spira happen to be much stronger than the people of earth, so while we may not be able to play blitzball, they are.

You know who has ridiculous amounts of strength? Beowulf. If Beowulf has far more strength than the average person, and Spirans have far more far more strength than the people of earth, then Beowulf could very well be Spiran.

And then, finally, it appears that in Spira the time in which you hold your breath underwater can be improved with practice until you can hold long enough to play blitzball. If Beowulf is able to hold his breath underwater for the duration of an entire sea storm, then he could very well have be a blitzball player too.

Credit goes mostly to my friends for this one. Had they not mentioned blitzball, I probably wouldn't have thought of it myself.

Possible relation/connection to Jecht?

Let's look at the facts

1. Both are unable to express love 2. Both have killed powerful beings (Jecht killing Sin and Beowulf killing Angelina Jolie) 3. Both have a massive amount of strength

"under" water seems to be a misnomer, it's played completely surrounded by water, and the water itself is hovering in the air somehow.

Hungry Joe:

Clearly.

You're underneath the water surface, it's just that in the case of Blitzball, the surface happens to be spherical.

Also, all of earth happens to be surrounded by a giant sphere of water.
