It shocks me that the series isn't even selling well enough to cover the translation of a game that has practically no voice, though. Text translation doesn't really break the bank.
Well theres also money spent on advertising...
"Every opinion that isn't mine is subjected to Your Mileage May Vary."These games aren't really advertised heavily, though. I usually just see one trailer and nothing else aside from a mention or a review in a magazine. This series strikes me as one of those ones that aren't advertised or shipped heavily because the company doesn't have much faith in them.
Capcom should probably take some cues from Atlus, the king of budget gaming.

^ They thought that AAI would sell more than it did. It didn't, so...
Remember that the only motive here is money. If it costs more to translate and export than it makes back, it won't get translated.
Then I guess my next question is: why would Investigations have sold less than any of the other previous games? Did people just dislike the lack of court scenes that much?
You're an ad hominem attack!Apollo Justice leaving a sour taste maybe (I dunno I quite liked that game)
Or perhaps the fact that the game was just pure continuity porn with a plot that wasn't as good as, say PW 1 or T&T. I dunno I'm just speculating here.
The news sucks, but Capcom's been complaining about lack of sales for AA for a long time so I'm not completely surprised.
The original four were released in relative close succession, so my only guess is that the bubble surrounding the franchise has shrank during the two-three year gap inbetween Apollo Justice and Investigations.
Rather inconsistent. I can't imagine Ghost Trick was a far more marketable IP than the already successful (declining or not) Ace Attorney series.
Seriously, Capcom needs a better marketing team. I only found out about most of these games through the internet.
You got some dirt on you. Here's some more!Seriously. Okamiden is easily the worst offender. Releasing it with no advertising whatsoever right after the DS's biggest ever release and right before a major Nintendo hardware release?
derrrrrp
The post I just linked shows that they ARE taking the sudden backlash into consideration, so now's the time to add to the response.
This reminds me of Cing, and their refusal to export the sequels to Trace Memory and Hotel Dusk. How am I going to import, then?
To whomever was worried about Professor Layton vs. Ace Attorney, Professor Layton does sell well (though still not spectacular, it's building a name for itself), and Level-5 would probably push for its release.
x3. As disappointed as I am in the news, one thing I will say that I respect for Christian Svensson (Senior Vice-President) is that he's taking the time to give clear concise answers for Capcom's reasoning. It's a far cry from suddenly pretending that the game doesn't exist (has Nintendo of America said ANYTHING about Fire Emblem 12?) and it's something that I wish more companies and it's employees would do more often.
One thing I learned from watching the Tales of Innocence translation go on is how much work goes into the localizing portion of things. I can see it costing a hefty some of money to localize the game, which they have generally done a very good job of doing...I just wish more people in our region would play the games.

...I'm not quite as upset as I might be, because I thought AAI was the weakest entry in the series. The reason Okami Den is selling better is because it's, well, a good game. I would probably pick up AII 2 if it came out here, but not with great expectations.
On the other hand, if this decision would mean no AA games if and when they finally release AA 5, then I would get upset. Very, very upset.
I wanna see a second game starring Apollo Justice already. Ideally one where he stands on his own instead of playing second fiddle to Phoenix.
http://twitter.com/raydere | http://raydere.tumblr.comMy thoughts exactly.
AAI 1 was basically just "woooooah remember when the guy did the one thing HERE HE IS DOING IT AGAIN", and while the boss theme was awesome, the fact that it invariably played on the last bit of every level kinda soured it. And the final boss went on way too friggin' long.
Still, I'd be sad to miss Gregory Edgeworth playable. :( On the other hand, keep in mind: Westerners missed the original GBA release of the Phoenix Arc too. *shrugs* Maybe we'll get enhanced ports or something down the line.

Visual Novels have a lot of text. Translating them is quite a bit more work (and therefore money) than it is to translate most games, and the audience for them is already much more niche in the first place. Frankly I'm more surprised that it took this long for them to give up.
@Cysma I imported the EU release of Last Window just fine and I live in America. Besides didn't Cing file for bankruptsy last year?
On topic.... WHY. I'm a guy who genuinely liked the first AAI (yes, even with Alba and his refusal to give up) and though Apollo Justice wasn't that bad (his game wasn't THAT bad, but I honestly think he just needs a game of is OWN and have Phoenix in the background... Or half the cases with Phoenix and half with Apollo). I just gotta wonder... even without the re-releases and the Gold Edition, was Resident Evil 5 THAT successful to warrant the furthur upcoming games? They better change their minds quick.
Sometimes life just sucks. You have to learn to take the good with the bad. Why should you expect anything different in the mediums?I honestly dont see why people hate so much Alba´s really long part. I personally liked it. He abused the sistem, but hey, he IS the bad guy so it makes sence xD.
"That is not dead which can eternal lie, And with strange aeons even death itself may die."
They're not doing it because the series is not selling enough.
Okamiden's already sold more than the first one, apparently.
