Been watching Gumball a lot over the past couple weeks since Cartoon Network is kind enough to spam it.

It's a really good show. I especially like the animation, the characters, and the weird plots, though the latter sometimes leads to the stories feeling disjointed due to Halfway Plot Switches. I also find the romance between Gumball and Penny to be surprisingly sweet.

We've got synopsis for the remaining ten episodes of season five. There's also a date for the second week of September, though who knows if that will actually happen.

  • The News: "From police chases to the inside scoop on Daisy the Donkey, Channel 6 Elmore News has all the top local stories; experienced newscaster Kip Schlezinger brings the latest news, sports and weather, even when there is absolutely nothing to report."
  • The Petals: "When Leslie's petals begin falling off, he feels like his good looks are fading, so Gumball and Darwin use everything they know about style and beauty to try and help him."
  • The Nuisance: "The Wattersons fear the worst when they are summoned to a Town Hall meeting, but are surprised when they're offered a new house - until they discover it's in a different state."
  • The Best: "No matter what Gumball does, Carmen thinks she knows better; when Gumball attempts to gain the moral high ground, but fails, his only option left is to bring Carmen down to his level."
  • The Worst: "The Wattersons compete over who has the worst life."
  • The List: "When the kids find out that Mom's life hasn't panned out as she'd hoped, they start taking on her chores, but they accidentally grab her bucket list instead of her to-do list."
  • The Deal: "Richard goes on strike to prove that his work around the house is under appreciated by Nicole."
  • The Line: "The Wattersons will do whatever it takes to get into the first screening of the latest Stellar Odyssey sequel."
  • The Singing: "Joining the citizens of Elmore for a song and dance spectacular that will have people covering their ears with joy."
  • The Puppets: "Darwin is delighted when they discover their old childhood toys, but soon realizes that some things are best left in the past."

"The List" sounds like it will be hilarious.

Not that I think the other episodes won't be funny, but the synopsis is the most promising to me.

"The News" also sounds like fun. Gumball's Vignette Episodes are pretty good.

The contents of Nicole's bucket list is a very interesting question.

A while ago, Ben Bocquelet mentioned an idea for a season five episode where we see Elmore's relation to the rest of the world. "The Nuisance" might be that episode.

I'm not sure the rest of the world wants to mess with something that can make things vanish if it doesn't like them.

@The Best: Carmen's kind of a jerk. Even if her criticism of Gumball are factually correct, she sounds less concerned with his wellbeing than berating him. Which is essentially what Gumball was trying to do, just less competently.

Please use spoiler tags. Some people don't have access to the on-demand service and/or want to wait for the TV airing.

I'm going to point out, once again, that if you can watch the show legally when it premieres on TV, you can watch it on the website or on-demand.

And I would barely call it a spoiler, I'm basically commenting on what's spelled out in the episode synopsis.

Also, spoiler marks don't really do much on forums. That's why shows that have actual leaks gets separate threads when there's enough discussion to warrant them.

But, whatever.

Yeah this episode just fucking caused a bunch of people to jump aboard the "Fuck SJW's" train. They took this little portion of Gumball acting like an ass to Carmen and trying to be holier than thou by saying "Check your privilege" and calling himself a "social justice warrior", and memed it without even knowing the context. This episode isn't about Gumball becoming an "SJW", it's about him trying to retaliate against Carmen, who in a lesser cartoon would be an "SJW", and acting like a twat trying to defame her. I've seen this before, somebody makes one point and then another person has to try and destroy that person so that they can destroy their point. So a bunch of people are now patting themselves on the back for an episode that is blatantly mocking these anti-social justice idiots by thinking that it's mocking "Le SJW's". Personally though this episode could've used less subtlety to push their point, given how many people fucking missed that point.

Yeah the context before the infamous clip is extremely vital, but is easy to just cut out to prove a point. Even in the very same clip Carmen brings a counterpoint and treats gumball with compassion, something the anti she crowd would NEVER do, so it's kinda unfortunate the message got misused as it did.

Carmen's counterpoint was that Gumball was using activism as an pretext to grandstand. Gumball being so devastated by said argument relies on there being people who aren't doing the same, whose point he was undermining.

To continue on my previous post, I'll backpedal a bit and say even "kind of a jerk" is too far. After rewatching it, I have to say Carmen is legitimately trying to help Gumball. That said, she still comes off as very unwise/unhelpful. The first scene made it obvious that criticizing Gumball was just egging him on to harm himself and others (like Alan; "BOOM!") out of spite. It's still much more Gumball's fault than Carmen's, but that's not any kind of accomplishment.

Carmen was being a bit strict but in nearly every instance she's shown to be right. And it's already established that Gumball is an asshole so...why would this out of context section of an episode be praised for attacking SJW's when it wasn't? The episode should've been rewritten to be a little less subtle about it because obviously there's people who weren't getting the message.

It's amusing how Carmen's kind of the opposite of Alan (she is critical of others, while he's absurdly forgiving and accepting), yet Gumball hates both of them.

Most likely because while Carmen is harsh she and Alan both essentially preach the same things that Gumball dislikes: being a decent human being. Alan is just a big doormat about it while Carmen is a strict disciplinarian about it.
