I played the original. Didn't like it, it spread itself very thin at both ends. The caveman periods were nothing but massing units and throwing them at the enemy. Most of the game had solid if standard Age Of Empires style play with the rock-paper-scissors strategy. Things were more complicated during the World Wars but still made sense as you dealt with anti-tank and anti-air. What I remember of the future was pretty bad. Mech A beats Mech B beats Mech C with little rhyme or reason.
I was also disappointed when you got to the World War campaign. I was intrigued since you played the Germans through them, wondering what they planned on doing with playing the Nazi side of the Blitzkrieg. And...they wimped out as usual and you're merely warmongering not-Nazi Germany since World War 2 is when the real timeline and the game's alternate timeline split off.
"But don't give up hope. Everyone is cured sooner or later. In the end we shall shoot you." - O'Brien, 1984I was very fond of Empire Earth. It was pretty much my first RTS game.
It's sequel... Not so much.
Tried the first game - it felt rather... clunky. This was not helped by the fact that I was also playing Rise of Nations at the time, an RTS that was generally better-done with more coherent and strategic gameplay.
Empire Earth 1 and 2, and the other, unlike AOE, pretty much run with the Rule Of Cool, specially in the Future Ages, Mechas vs mechas, lases soldiers vs robots, cmon, is awesome, also
Sometimes. rock beats paper, or better, rock beats, bronze, Iron, Gunpodwer, and even Laser
Empire Earth 2 was better in that part

http://steamcommunity.com/id/Xan-Xan/I think that they had No Swastikas so that they could sell it in Germany. BTW, Erwin Rommel is actuality in the last level, but he looks that same as a normal German officer. And a Black Robe officer from the Russian campaign. I do agree about how thin it is spread, but I like it beacuse you can have long games with a lot of changing gameplay. Have you played in the Space age in AOC? Its pretty cool as well.

And its hard, very hard
http://steamcommunity.com/id/Xan-Xan/I didn't mind the first game, but the sequels... not so much.
Oh, yes.
I think it was almost literally my first RTS (other than Ao E, Starcraft and Command&Conquer) though, so my opinion is totally biased way too much towards it... The biggest reason I liked the game was because it just wasn't afraid to take risks that Age of Empires and its rediculously conservative model still haven't gotten around to.
The game balance was totally freaking broken though. Cavalry rush, anyone?
Oh, and I played the sequel, but decided it was completely horrible. They took the SLIGHT rock paper scissors of the first game and turned it into a HARD COUNTER rock paper scissors.

Yeah, the combat in 2 is annoying. Everything else is done pretty well.
I liked Empire Earth back in the day, but it hasn't really aged well.

Has anyone else played Empire Earth or its sequels?
