My sexuality does changes every now and then. I don't really know how it occurs, but it does happen. I am quite sure this isn't simply learning more about my sexuality, but is actual shifts in orientation.

Issues regarding gender, gender identity and sexuality seem to be especially prone to people accusing others of "false consciousness" because their stated realities don't match the theory of the accuser.

My theory is that sexuality can change, but usually only does so either in response to some massive shock or over time, and rarely (if at all) by choice. I mean, I suppose it's possible that there are those who can simply change their orientation at will, but that concept boggles my mind so much that I really cannot picture it.

[up]There was a discussion with The Mighty Antonym about that a while ago. It was... interesting.

^^ There's a person in The Courage to Heal who claimed her sexual abuse trained her to be into S&M, and through a bunch of psychological work she managed to train herself out of that. It wasn't easy, but it was possible. Can't remember all the details.

If I'm asking for advice on a story idea, don't tell me it can't be done.

Hmm, I don't think my being abused has anything to do with my being into S&M...

And to rerail this on a related note, could sexual orientation be determined differently for different people?
