Alternate Reality Game. As for how people find out about them, I believe there's several databases with lists of ARG's.

1. Decide on a plot. 2. Decide what the secrets and answers. 3. Construct the clues, story outline, and such. 4. Begin and let the readers figure out the clues as you/they discover them.

I generally hear about AR Gs because people who got involved tell me about them or make pages about them. My question is, though, how do those people know about them? If AR Gs are meant to be similar to real life how do you find them amongst all the other real crap people post?
