I hate it when people leave it to everyone else to support the country. Disturbed by the mention of the UK and how bad we are at it.

Come on, I know we joke about tax collectors but that money is important! Joke about government waste and bureaucracy all you want but we have things like, you know, schools, hospitals and roads, not to mention, an armed forces engaged in two conflicts right now. And we're deep into the red. We need that money to be in the national strongbox.

The term "Great Man" is disturbingly interchangeable with "mass murderer" in history books.

Furthermore, I think Guantanamo must be destroyed.

Maybe so, but they know their stuff when it comes to money, and the simple fact is the government is owed money it isn't recieving in Greece (and Britain.)

The term "Great Man" is disturbingly interchangeable with "mass murderer" in history books.

Of course the problem is HOW you are supposed to collect that tax.

If you're somewhat poor, like most Greeks, and are subjected to both a 20-30% income tax AND a 15-20% sales tax you'd dodge taxes too.

You exist because we allow it and you will end because we demand it.

[up]: That does not make any sense. What you are saying implies something that is not %, but rather a fixed sum based on class.
The greek problem is moral, not economic.

A guy called dvorak is tired. Tired of humanity not wanting to change to improve itself. Quite the sad tale.

A VAT is a tax so heinous and immoral that resisting it is perfectly appropriate.

You exist because we allow it and you will end because we demand it.

^ What is so wrong with it?

It's a 15-25% sales tax, applied ON TOP of an already high income tax.

Applying a sales tax to *services* is fishy, too.

If you're going to tax someone, tax the rich. Leave the consumers (primarily working and middle classes) the Hell alone.

wait, 'civilised' countries have regressive tax structures? how gauche!

And a 'value-added' or 'goods-and-services' tax on top of that. That's starting to sound painful

But, then I remember, 'this is Greece, land developers have "wildfire arson" as a legitimate business practice, and the government lies about money'

The terrible downside to multiple identities: multiple tax returns
