Can we really be sure being on "last parts of the game" means they're done? Because he could just mean they're working on the end of the scenario now, and that seems like a really long time to have to wait for an announcement.

Well, they said "by the end of the year", so it's not like they're getting it ready for gold master status right now. But it does mean the storyline, combat, etc are about done.

Looked at the original Andriasang article. It seems the text on dqx.jp means ""But the door was firmly closed." In the comments, a person named Slimestack said, "That's pretty much what the games say when you try to open a locked door."

Dragon Quest 10 was announced after the Wii started succeeding. It has been in development for a long time... and assuming it does get released on the Wii, it might be one of the system's last few big-name games.

This has happened before with other DQ games. The sixth game was released near the end of the Super Famicom's lifecycle. Number seven was released near the end of the Playstation's lifecycle. Most DQ games seem to be developed slowly. This trend seems increasingly true for a number of other Square Enix games.

The difference being that most SE projects take forever because of sheer production value.

Dragon Quest games tend to be because they actually take care in crafting them.

I just hope it's a DS game.

So we're getting ogres and elves as job classes?!

Also, I hope "Online RPG" refers to something like IX and not a full on MMO.

Doubt it'll be an MMO. Wii can't handle a true MMO.

It appears to be a full MMO. Customizable player housing, spectators can affect combat with Egg On, item customization system, optional AI party members taken from off-line player characters. Looks interesting to me.

There's also a version for the Wii U with upgraded graphics. I'm not quite sure if the Wii version will even come out in English though.

Six races: "Human", Ogre, Elf, Dwarf, what appears to be a water-isk one, and a really tiny one. Forgot what the last two's names were.

Edit: More details here.

Well, at least it has Wifi, so I can take advantage of the multiplayer features that I couldn't with Dragon Quest IX due to none of my friends owning the game.

Still, I'm a bit dissapointed that this game (so far) looks like it's going to be a DQIX style DQ game. I enjoyed DQIX, but generic characters aren't always the most fun for me.

I still kinda want it, but if It has a subscription fee in America, then that's that. If I want to play a subscription mmo, I'll get World Of Warcraft. Even Monster Hunter dropped the fee in america.

I'm saying IF it has one. I don't think they said anything about one. I wouldn't be surprised if Japan has one at least though.

Take this with a grain of salt since I heard it from the Game Faqs forums, but you can play offline as well.

EDIT: Nevermind. Found a better source:

http://rpgfan.com/news/2011/2120.html

Square Enix made sure to mention that the game can be completed offline as well, with NP Cs forming the remainder of your party in lieu of other players.

It's no more a "full MMO" than Borderlands.

There's no mention either way of instanced areas, although it seems at the very least, the overworld isn't.

I find the possibility of playing offline unlikely, as it seems that several features, including recruiting NPC allies, is reliant on online play. The conference made no mention of offline play, but did say that the game can be completed 100% solo.
