Is it worth pointing out that you guys are looking for rationlity in a game with a talking dragon boat?
In my case it's not a concern with being realistic at all so much as I like being able to swim as much I like.
If someone wants to accuse us of eating coconut shells, then that's their business. We know what we're doing. - Achaan ChahWell, kinda. I mean, the kid's been an island dweller his whole life, and apparently regularly sleeps on the docks.
But that talking dragon boat means that he can't swim indefinitely. I just wish they had come up with a different way of restricting him. Even just a 'There are ants at your feet'-style blocking-off of his movement, like the boat does when you get to the edge of the map.

I have a message from another time...I notice more and more that the people who complain about invisible walls with stuff like jumping ledges or swimming water seem to think the developer would have really made a whole world beyond the water if the character could swim.
So would Etrian Odyssey 3 's second stratum(Undersea Grotto) be considered a "water level"?
Technically◊, you ARE exploring a large undersea maze of corals.
The FOE's consists of giant ancient fishes swimming around. Killer walruses and starfishes that one-shots your party members...lots of fishy and coral enemies.
And it is fun to explore...although I was more intrigued by the concept of that area just existing...and there are water elements in the form of tides pushing you around.
But would that be considered a good water level? Let alone a water level at all?
But asides from music, description, appearance, enemies/bosses, events, and tides, it's nearly the same as other none-water stratums.

"Every opinion that isn't mine is subjected to Your Mileage May Vary."But... but in Wind Waker, there is a whole world full of islands. The only boundary past which there is nothing is the edge of the map. An invisible wall for swimming would keep Link from ditching his boat, and still allow the kind of swimming ability I'd expect from a kid who lives on the ocean.
I have a message from another time...But what would it gain you?
The simple joy of being able to swim more.
If someone wants to accuse us of eating coconut shells, then that's their business. We know what we're doing. - Achaan ChahBasically. It's not something extremely necessary, just something that'd be nice to have.
I have a message from another time...It isn't so much that I expect a developer to make an infinte world, but ending that world with an invisble wall just feels lazy.
But I think video games require a little extra Willing Suspension of Disbelief than other mediuims because it takes so much effort and insight to make a game fun, it could take too much work to go back and fix those little bits of fridge logic.
Still, a little consistancy can go a long way.

Put me in motion, drink the potion, use the lotion, drain the ocean, cause commotion, fake devotion, entertain a notion, be Nova Scotian
I mean, I get the reasoning (don't want him to swim to the next island without the KORL), but it's still a bit silly.
