I haven't been following this game, I'm not getting any new consoles for a long time, and the business end of Ground Zeroes bothers me.

That being said, this does look so awesome. And that shrapnel disgusts me so much. Just something about it...like I've developed tinnitus over the past year so I have this persistent ringing in my ears that bugs the shit out of me. And that's just a phantom noise I'm hearing, not like three inches of metal sticking out of my skull. /shudder.

I guess now it'd be Diamond Dogs brand chips and curry and sodas and face cream. Still want.

Tried rescuing the POWS in one swoop in the least conspicuous place (the cave where you haul Chico) ... and the game countered that by sending soldiers to investigate that area. Dragging Chico back through those sentries without being spotted has proved difficult - I considered dropping a flare grenade right over the fence next to the POW cages and tranqing the guards (rather than bringing Chico all the way down to the beach), but I haven't tried it to see if there's actually enough space.

That's what I did, somewhat, I rescued Chico first. You grab him, and the other POWS freak out, drawing the guards inside to tell them to shut up. After that, the guard that was staring off of the cliff starts moving around, and getting around him and his buddy without interaction is tough.

I dragged Chico to the cave, left him, went back for the others, but when I did that, the POW scheduled for execution came up, and I feel obligated to go and rescue him. That's a b-tch and a half, but once I do that, I drag him back to where Chico is, and wham, guards on the shoreline. I haven't started over to check and see if I can rescue him first before the guards mention him, or if I can sneak over, nab 5 more POWS, then go back for the executionee and haul him back without summoning the coast guard(s).

Morpho's chopper space is pretty limited, somewhere around 4-5 people per trip at maximum. Best to haul out both Chico and the PO Ws around him first, then go for the lone guy up for execution. Paz is the absolute last person to get, since there's a good chance you'll set off an alarm on the way out.

I'm not certain whether its time-based or not. Will he only spawn if I overhear about him from the soldiers, or if I don't rescue the POWS quickly, will I find him dead anyway? I'll see tomorrow. With Peace Walker finally beaten, I've nothing but time for Ground Zeroes.

From what I've seen he's usually just sitting there waiting to be executed. I was watching the area he was at for about a good ten minutes waiting for an easy opening or change in the guard's behavior and nothing happened.

In regards to the "Quiet is Chico after a sex change" theory, can we not discredit it yet because of her fighting skills? For all we know, post-sex change, Chico spent 9 years training?

[up] Most people discredit it because of what Stefanie said. Personally, however, I think that it was just to throw us off the tracks.

So, I've only been really giving the MGS series a look within the past year or two, so I'm only just kinda jumping on the hype train for this. Impulse-bought MGR and have been loving it, but I'm back and forth between grabbing what would be my first main-series MGS game.

Anything out on the interwebs about the bosses? Those tend to always be the highlights, and I vaguely remember MGS 4's B+B Corps getting a good amount of insight leading up to that game.

I love Metal Gear Solid 3, Metal Gear Solid 2, and Peace Walker the most of the Solid games.

So get the HD Collection.

Simple enough.

My favorite is Metal Gear 2 Solid Snake. Which is included in the Metal Gear Solid 3 part of the collection.

You're better off not reading anything about them and maintaining the suspense. What do you mean by "insight" on the bosses?

[up]I vaguely remember an issue of either EGM or PSM that focused heavily on MGS 4, and it had a section on the B+B. Nothing too much, since it was before it came out; just general design and the more blatant name references. Now that I'm thinking, I also remember something similar with MGS 3 and Cobra Unit.

.....though don't quote me too much on it. It's been forever since I was subscribed to any game mag.

And for the record I'm pretty caught up on the series watching Chip Cheezum's L Ps. MGR's the first Metal Gear game I physically own, and while I do know about the Senator Armstrong fight and how much of a Fountain of Memes he is I'm trying to keep the actual fight spoilered until I get to it.

Ah. You know, funny enough, I kind of remember owning an issue like that myself.

Well, I still don't know exactly how much you want to hear, how much spoilerage you want. Basically you know what the games are about but you haven't played them, you know the storyline but you skipped the boss encounters?

Do you want the general theme for each game's bosses, or just the highlights, or a summation? To put it briefly:

MGS 1 has the twistiest boss fights. MGS 2 focuses on the supernatural. MGS 3 has the most variation. MGS 4's have the most action.

MGS 3 also has, IMO, two-three (depending on The Sorrow) of the greatest boss fights in video game history.

Oh, Rising definitely has the most fun boss fights, but The End and The Boss were just so damn intense.

Speaking of Rising, Kojima visited Platinum yesterday. Can we GET HYPE yet?

Anyone find it a funny coincidence that with Kiefer Sutherland being casted as Snake, it just so happens that this installment has more Cold-Blooded Torture than ever before in the series?

As pointed out with Yong Yea, she has the same abilities. However, I refused to believe there is nothing magic-realistic about her.

So I've had the PS 3 version of Ground Zeroes, right?

Well, two things.

One, I like to knock guards out and take them to Landing Zones. If I have any more than three though, one of them disappears.

Also, sometimes my PS 3 starts making this weird noise after a while. And slowdown starts happening, and more pop-in, and I'm somewhat worried that it might be melting.
