The trope is a Stock Phrase. In fact, that's all this trope is.

At best, all Snowclone Phrase is good for is a redirect to This Trope Is X, but it does nothing to distinguish any single Stock Phrase.

Look, why don't we just cut all the stock phrases so we can put an end to the cliche hunt? The wiki is for tropes, not for finding every instance of some damned line.

What I can't understand is why Stock Phrases can't be tropes when our own definition of "Trope" specifically includes "linguistic idioms" among the named "conventions" a trope can define.

800 pages represents 0.032 of our articles. Trope articles. Of total articles, it is like 0.0053.

I'm willing to question that definition. Linguistic idioms being what we mean when we say tropes, that is.

And please stop accusing me of admin fiats every time I open my mouth.

^^ Why not? As the Trope page states, "Above all, a trope is a convention." If a convention can be conveyed through visual imagery or performed action, then why not though verbal language?

Well, we're never going to get consensus for cutting 800 pages, that much I'm certain.

I would love to get rid of most of the Stock Phrases, or at least put a moratorium of some sort on the launching of new ones. The majority of them are People Sitting On Chairs, and having so many of them just encourages people to launch more, and so we end up with a lot of crappy pages that we shouldn't have. But that's a topic for a different thread in a different forum.

We really ought to make a thread specifically about whether or not to keep stock phrases. Make a wiki headline for it, too.

I would make it myself, but I'm not sure which subforum to put it in.

Every one of these are dialog-like. They are not usable.

This is a stock phrase, isn't it? Either it has a dialog-based title or we cut it. Keeping it around but giving it a different kind of name strikes me as pointless.

Cut, then, if there is no trope. Far as I can tell, there isn't. 20 wicks. 38 inbounds. Been around for years. As close as you can get to completely invisible. Cut candidate for sure.

Eeeeeeh, with as many examples are there, I'd be loathe to just arbitrarily cut it...maybe Danger As Meal Boast, special titled to "Danger as Meal" Boast?

It's got maybe 20 "examples." That is, 20 instances of people recording the use of a line.

I count 26 examples that actually use the line or a variant thereof, and the rest could probably be found with some research.

Mind you, it's not gonna break my heart if it does get cut, but I think it's got enough examples across enough media to make it have some consequence. Also, considering that we're trying to move away from "stock phrase as trope name" situations, I think my proposed rename could actually get this back on track...I was gonna add it to the crowner but I see that it's locked.

Yeah, a new crowner would make more sense. This one is spoiled. Well, if it must be saved, Danger Snack could work.
