Journal Entry Two
More hard work. Plenty of trees to go around. When I close my eyes I see charcoal.
Picked a room. Cold. Very cold. Must get more blankets for bed.
These lands are strange. Trees on top of trees. Cacti and sugar canes in the snow. Cows jumping off mountains.
More confusing every day.
Jester's Journal Entry I:
Avatar of the Almighty Miner! You go on a three-day bender and you wake up to find everything's changed. It seems since my last memory of the settlement before I blacked out in The Bucket was of the other architect, Ori, and I finishing the post office... Now it seems we've got another boatload of settlers to help carve a living out of this frozen waste. What the Empire sees in this rock is beyond me.
Ori's a good kid — talented, too. She's working quickly on these new projects, and apparently was under orders to erect a wall between the nothing inside this place and the outside of the settlement. These Nether-born bureaucrats making these decisions have no idea of the things that real people need to survive The Outlands. That's why I took it upon myself to build The Bucket. The piss-poor booze that can be distilled from the grains we grow here is a poor substitute for a golden drink Haschian liquor or the Imperial City's famed Aiethean draught. Some things must be best forgotten when working in The Outlands: Good beer, good women and good materials to build with.
Praise to the Great Sky Miner that the Creepers and walking dead from the Wilderness west of the Imperial City haven't followed us here. With the very winds and rocks trying to kill us slowly here, we don't need those fiends haunting our steps.
I can only pray they never do.
Well then, this hangover's fading.
Back to work, I suppose.
In times of change, learners inherit the Earth and the learned find themselves perfectly equipped to deal with a world that no longer existsBackground trivia:
We haven't decided upon exactly what the political realm outside the map is like, but I was open to suggestions. Rampant plagirism from Tuefel's sucession game would fit nicely, I suppose, although it is quite possible that some settlers here may have come from other neighboring countries, so one person may be from The Republic, another from one of a few kingdoms, and perhaps an Empire. Not particularly important for the time being, but if two people are from countries that aren't friendly with each other, it could get... interesting.
I'm merely speculating here, but since a rather large potion of the map is frozen waste, I'd suppose that this would place it in the far norther reaches and possibly bordering a few nations.
As to what's further north...? Dunno.

Happiness is zero-gee with a sinus cold.Yeah, I know I said a lot of things that didn't/haven't been discussed as a background, but I figured if I just started rambling, some things would catch on, and what sucked would be forgotten. I like worldbuilding. And building.

I wish someone would get online and play.

Well. I can't say I'm that impressed with the other architect's drinking habits, but at least he's a steady worker when sober. perhaps I shall encourage him to build himself a house outside of that musty old tavern.
I looked up from my endless working on the blasted wall to see that Jester had taken it upon himself to erect 12 sandstone pillars in one of the clearings. I hope that I can talk to him soon and find out what he's building. Anything to break the monotony of cobblework.
all that said, the wall is coming along slowly because i am actually out of cobble. also, no idea if I'm doing it right. Every time I've been on, nobody else has. :)
DoodlesMy internet got stupid slow tonight. And speedtest.net wasn't working, either. Pingtest.net said I wasn't too bad, so I apologize for having to kick people off to troubleshoot - even after resetting my router and all that, it was laggy and slow.
Sigh, better luck later on....
I'm digging the new street-lanterns, though.

When we built our shelter our food was gone. I tried to grow some wheat. Papa told me how to find seeds. But the ground was cold and it was hard. I did my best but the animals killed my wheat. Then Lance came. He took my farm to make it better. He made another farm with glass on top. He is smart to grow food. I hope to learn much from him. He also grows cactus. I don't know why. Cactus are sharp. Oh well. Good night.
Server will be down until the morning. Maybe Hawaii's internet just sucks at the moment.
EDIT: Is up now.

Happiness is zero-gee with a sinus cold. Our internet still sucks here. Anyone having lag issues on our server?
YES.
"Coffee! Coffeecoffeecoffee! Coffee! Not as strong as Meth-amphetamine, but it lets you keep your teeth!"^^ Dang it. I'm not paying for Roadrunner Turbo for it to be slower than it was before. Babe, go reset the router for a good thirty seconds and see what that does.
In other news, I've found numerous lava pockets, puddles and fountains in my mining travels. Couple that with some decent iron buckets, and we can ferry lava to the wall and place in side a mold for casting an obsidian core for the perimeter wall. Some buckets with water, and we can have a few people running lava into place, while the caster dumps water on it once placed to cool it. the caster, while waiting for the next lava drop, would move the mold so that we're only dumping lava in single 1-block chunks. Basically, you woudl have your outer wall of cobble (only one meter high to start) and you wold place dirt or gravel every other meter between teh outer and inner cobblestone wall, so that you have one-cubic-meter spaces in which to dump the lava. once you got those obsidian blocks placed, you dig out the filler material and dump lava into those holes, and repeat ad naseum.
Considering just how HUEG the perimeter wall is going to be, I can see that we'll need to either a) find lots of lava or b) find lots of obsidian.
I actually have a handful of diamond bits with which to make a diamond pickaxe - which is really the only diamond tool we will ever need.

Happiness is zero-gee with a sinus cold.Yeaaah.. lots and lots of obsidian. Would be very nice though, given that not even TNT/creepers can take out those.
Okay, I'm going to toss the Belkin router out the window return the Belkin router and get my money back. The older Linksys router was easier to port-forward, didn't randomly bring Roadrunner Turbo to a crawl and in general, was a better product.
My wife's friend actually suggested turning off the router's firewall to improve speed. I do not like having to lower security settings just to get normal performance back, as that is a band-aid solution. But, since he seems to knwo what he's talking about, I'll do some reading about DMZ options and if I really need it or not.
I'll notify everyone when that goes down, as I'll do it when I get home.
Happiness is zero-gee with a sinus cold.Belkin routers seem to suck in general, based on my experience.

Other logger = Absolute idiot. Burnt down much of the forest. Had to replant dozens. Growing tired of fools.
Colony expansion going forward. Others made lamp posts. Just like home.
Miner concerned with ice patterns and strange happenings. Constantly mentions "server problems", "crashing", "lag". Paranoid? Must keep watch.
No, I don't actually think you're an idiot - just a bit clumsy. ^.^

Anton, you're funny. If it's in character, I'll have more spelling erros, worse grammar, and it'll be a journal.
But you probably already knew that. Still, made me smile.
Happiness is zero-gee with a sinus cold.Red's taking me to dinner tonight for my birthday (I'm 34 now) so we won't be home until...
Dunno. May or may not pruchase a new router; the old one worked okay. So we probably won't be on tonight until after y'all are asleep.
Happiness is zero-gee with a sinus cold.Heh, you're normally getting on when I'm normally getting ready to go to sleep. Oh well, when we move in April/May, we'll be going to Central time, so maybe I'll see more of you all.
Also,
34? Daaaaaaang....

Jester's Journal Entry II:
After much consideration, I've decided to bring a gift to these poor people who have boldly risked their necks to populate The Outlands. There's much work yet to be done, but it has started. I made the mistake of starting the work on Alladmin's Day Eve, meaning last night's work would be interrupted by the necessity of drinking, celebration and frivolity in the name of Alladmin's Day! Oi, my head still aches from last night... Perhaps a wee nap, and I'll be right as rain for this afternoon's work.
I'll be creepered if I let my gift to Greenland go unfinished.
Happy birthday, Pvt — you fossil! :D

Red Entry II
Today I will talk about pvt. He is a good husband. He knows more about rocks than me. He told me Ms. Ori wants clay. He tried to say what it looks like. It sounds like soft stone to me. He told me about many colored stones. Blue stones look pretty. Red stones are like magic to make music. Tan stones make my swords. He couldn't show me clay. I hope I can tell him if I see some. That will make him happy.
