I can remember back when getting a 128 kbps connection in the home was a luxury, and when having a 10 Mbps connection was often considered a waste of money.

How times have changed. I need to explain why I can still cringe on being told somebody gets a 110 Mbps connection in their home with no issue.

Pretty sure I broke my child's brain when I told her that I'm older than the internet. :D

[up]Technically, both of us are actually just a wee bit younger than the internet, but older than the world wide web.

Telnet and other early networks that got joined up into the www predate me by as much as 8 years if you consider "making inroads into aligning their protocols" to be "the birth of the internet", and I'm 41. It's the 50s you need to look at if you're thinking "baby's first modem and server". :/

"Daddy, what's Autism? and why do I/my siblings have it?"

That's going to be fun to explain.

Also why the Console Wars had the fewest deaths of all wars. and Blast Processing. and how having a one frame a second difference makes one console better than another. and why everyone still uses C'thun in Hearthstone.

and why we can't have a pet. (I've had them all my life and don't want to spend another 10-13 years cleaning litter, but try telling that to a kid)

If a person disappears from a forum without posting, were they really there at all?

Kids: "Ma, why was the internet so important?"

Me: "Back in my day the internet was where you go to get information from, before that we used to go to libraries and read books at home."

Kids: "Mum, I have one question: what's a library? surprised"
