"If you do this I'll get you modeling in Paris the next day". Makes ya wonder........

Not really, that is bullshit.

As you say, it is possible that your friend is stressed out and exaggerating to deal with that. If so, she's entitled. If not then the person who said that has no interest in her career. If he thought she was his ticket to lots of money he wouldn't risk driving her away with that kind of harassment. Plus I doubt that one man has the power to get her an influential modelling post in Paris with 24 hours notice.

@Balloon Fleet: the agent was male, and my friend was male. Male models are just as likely to be abused in the modelling industry as female, by my experience.

At the high end, I don't hear reports of rape. I hear reports of constant sexual harassment by some photographers and other people, and a complete lack of boundaries between professional lives and personal lives. A model doesn't have to fuck them, but he or she has to accept constant harassment and not complain about it. Models who complain about people with power in the industry don't get work. I'm sure there is preferential treatment given to people that an influential photographer, for instance, likes — and one way to get them to like you is to fuck them, and there is no industry culture that this is wrong.

A brighter future for a darker age.

The Casting Couch is old and threadbare but it's not going anywhere.
