The research critical loot for island 1 are Pete Bog, The Mercury Mirror, Sonic Generator and Chameleon Cloth. As long as you get those, you should be all right.

I find that Sabatouers (and Infiltrators) aren't that bad, as long as they don't see any trap triggers. They have a 'must destroy' compulsion, and then gain heat when it blows up in their face. Low level Soldiers will attack any military minion they see, while high level soldiers will kill ANY minion they see, and attack any door that isn't set to security level 1.

There is a slightly sneaky exploit for dealing with them if you've recruited Lord Kane. Zoom in on them, and identify the leader(All the others are said to be 'providing backup'. Have him use Smooth Operator on the leader. ALL of them will stop what they're doing, and wait for him to finish. If you have Lord Kane 'gather minions' before he heads out, and tag all of them but the leader for killing/capture, then the rest of them will be taken down while Kane keeps that one guy busy. This power works even on Super Agents (who all seem to have the top level soldiers love for smashing things, then blaming you when they blow up in their face).

If everyone were normal, the world would be a dull place. Like reality television.

*Blows dust off this thread*

Anybody still play this game? I just finished a Maximillian run today. And yes, John Steele was on the rocket when it took off. tongue

I've been modifying the game lately; with some careful reading of the various game files, I was able to make the Microfilm Table, Soothing Atrium, and Cabinets available via research, give the latter two items actual effects (Both have AOE's that only affect the Evil Genius and their bodyguards; cabinets restores Loyalty and Attention, Atrium restores Health, Smarts, and Endurance. I'm not sure if the Evil Genius can lose any stat except HP, but it's neat), fix the issue where the Equipment Storage Racks use power, add AOE's to the loot items that don't have them (Mr. Snuggles provides a weak Loyalty boost, Sweaty Towel provides a very weak Loyalty and Endurance boost, and Oliver the Caged Primate provides a modest Loyalty and Smarts boost), and change the Codebreaker to restore Smarts instead of Attention.

Yeah, I mostly figured out how to add AOE's. tongue

Edit: Oh, and I made it so that you can keep the Cloning Machine when you go to the second island; clearing the mission permanently adds the Cloning Machine to the Laboratory build list instead of just giving you one like a loot item, though you can only have one at a time like other Laboratory equipment.

I bought it ages ago, got annoyed by dumb minions (good and appropriate) and cheating heroes (bad and...also appropriate?).

If I recall, I built a bunch of generators or some other equipment into a condensed stack at the back of the base to save space...and the heroes are allowed to teleport to inaccessible things. So I watched them enter the base and BOOM, I was out of power or something.
