Hey all, first post and all so bear with me... my question is clear, have you done collaborations and are they a good thing? I've always wanted to work with another author on a project, but the other person has to be motivated and...here goes.

I have a setting I am in love with: I want to tell the story of a city in the near-future in Montana (my home state) in a Crapsack Post-Imperial America. My emulations: the Wire meets Transmetropolitan(If I may be so bold)

At any rate, I would like someone to write this with me. It would be a podcast series of short-stories, told in instillations with crossover characters. I think I could write the bulk of the 'city plot' stories and others could fill in their own 'one-off' stories so as not to fuck with continuity of plot or whatever. I think there could be a lot of room for other authors to explore my world and add backstory/context/whatever. Thoughts? p.s. If this deserves to be posted elsewhere, let me know and I will do so.

I've been collaborating with a friend of mine for about... three years now on various script-formatted RPGs in an effort to hone our writing and character building skills. However, due to their inherent nature, the two of us made it up as we went along. Recently, I've started trying to build some plots with our little skits, and it actually works to a degree. But what I think held it together was that we communicated whenever we had questions about something the other did.

So, in an abridged form, a collab could be held together if all members communicate often to eliminate as much confusion as possible, whether if through email, PMs, text messages, or whatever. Another thing you could try, too, is have everyone get a Google account and create a bunch of Google Docs that only you and the people you collaborate with can see, like for character, plot, and world resources so that somebody can check if they forget something.

also, if anyone has a good site for struggling writers looking to team up, I'd love to go there. Part of my problem is just finding a community of interested folks...
