The title doesn't realy sell the thread idea.

What I'm looking to know is, with disorders of the general genre in regards to Anti-Social Personality Disorder and suchlike, how encompassing are these conditions?

I'm reading about it on wikipedia and some of the listed characteristics are lack of empathy and tendency towards violence.

So like, is it possible that a person can have directed ASPD, like, "This person is a member of my family I feel bad that they were hurt." versus "This person is just some guy I happen to know, I am indifferent to his suffering." or "I would never hurt this close friend of mine." versus "Oh look, a random stranger. DIEDIEDIE!!!!(exaggerated)"

This person genuinely does have emotions and empathy, but only people who have a close connection to him warrant any sort of emotional reaction.

Does any of this make any sort of sense?

This is still a signature.

Well, only about 30% of people with As PD are psychopaths, who are the one with a true Lack of Empathy. The remaining 70% have a warped moral code (eg 'it's OK to steal from him because he has insurance') but a moral code nonetheless. Or else they may have a fairly normal moral code but very poor self-control (eg 'I'm sorry, I know hitting you was wrong, but you just got me so angry'). They may lack empathy for their victims, but they'd certainly feel empathy for their friends, and possibly their family (depending on the relationship quality, since Abusive Parents can be a cause of As PD).

A psychopath doesn't feel empathy for others. This doesn't preclude them being nice on a whim, or because they benefit from it, but they feel no moral obligation to behave in a certain way. Most criminal psychopaths also have poor self-control, because psychopaths with good self-control generally realize they can get further if they hide their condition.

If I'm asking for advice on a story idea, don't tell me it can't be done.
