I remember reading these books (I forgot the author's name on one, he had some doctorate title attached to his name) that says something in the lines of that(I think the exact word was "down with romantic love!"). Personally, I don't buy these people saying that love is a bad, or at least basic desire that has to be done away with. Nor do I buy the reasoning that "everyone is inherently selfish anyway, no need to act all high and mighty about people wanting to have it all".

Well, it's a biological fact that we're psychologically driven to be selfish. That's how our brains function. We don't argue to be "right", we argue to win. We don't want to fall in love purely for love's sake; we want to feel validated. Assuming that this isn't true is often more dangerous than assuming it is and trying to control it.
