Somewhat big sounds about right /usually modifies fleet cap to allow 5k supply and 30 capships.

I've seen the mod menu.

What kind of mods is there for that game?

New commander pictures I hope? Because I can't say I love those I see...

I'm still on Trinity, but that is among the mods I have.

Trinity? What is that?

Anyway, any good place to browse mods?

Trinity is Sins + Entrenchment + Diplomacy.

Trinity is basically just the vanilla game with Entrenchment and Diplomacy packed into it as well.

So that means I already have those mods(?) included with my vanilla package?

EDIT: As in, I dont need to install those? What do they do anyway?

No, they're the first two expansion packs and the extra player images (and MUCH more) are part of Sins Plus.

So, after the worlds-eating armada, I went the completely opposite way: dominated an entire galaxy with my culture as Advent. Pretty easy win against that Hard AI, but I think the pirate did the most of the work honestly.

Also tried out-economy'ing my enemy, THEN forming an alliance with it. Needless to say it wasn't happy for the destruction of his capital. In the end, I pulled the plug on him. Oh well.

So I've started pimping my picture set. So far, that's what I got.

I love the Advent replacer, not planning to change it. Not so sure for the Vasari/TEC though. I mean, Theodore Roosevelt is cool and all, but this particular art does not fit the game at all. I was thinking either another Theodore Roosevelt picture, or maybe an Emperor of Mankind art.Got one that could fit the bill.

Then we have the Vasari's. My actual replacer pic is very not representative atm, not to say un-original*

. I'm trying to think of something, but I'm feeling un-inspired. Any suggestion?

Perhaps a combination of the Emperor of Mankind with Theodore Roosevelt? No wait, not a good idea, the internet would melt down from the sheer awesomeness of such an avatar...tongue

Well, in honesty, I'm fairly sure the Emperor of Mankind is actually Teddy who hibernated to come back to unite mankind against the dangers of year 40000.

Or so I would believe, knowing Teddy's antecedent.

Discoveries have been made!

The TEC loyalists frigate and cruiser ships suck (well mostly), but oh when you get those capital ships going the right way you are godly.

So here's the deal. I was playing a massive game, ten players, ten stars, 842 planets, all AI on hard mode.

I was about......16 hours into the game and things were just getting into full swing. I'd made an alliance with a Vasari faction since they were so close to my system and together we piled up our fleets and shot forward.

Well, we get to the Telos system where another TEC faction, which was rated #1 in every category, and where 5 other factions where fighting a war against him. There were two Advent factions duking it out somewhere else but no one really cared.

That star was the biggest battlefield of the entire game bar none. When me and my allies arrived we were treated to so many ships in that system that I could hardly see my own ships.

I went into that battle with my Ankylon Titan (lvl5), two Dunov Battlecruisers(lvls 4 and 5), two Corsev Battlecruisers (lvls 5 and 7), one Akkan battlecruiser (lvl 6), four Kol-class battleships (lvls 6, 6, 5, and 7) and three Sova-class carriers( all lvl 6).

Supporting that I had 5 Hoshiko Robotics cruisers, 44 Kodiak Heavy cruisers, 21 Percheron Light Carriers, 16 Shriken corvettes, 8 Garda flak Frigates, ten Javelis missile frigates and 5 Cobalt light frigates.

Me and my ally won that battle through attrition and very strategic use of abilities. My Ankylon's disruption matrix ability first killed the speed of every enemy ship next to it while simultaneously dealing 40 damage a second. The Akkan was zipping around and disabling every enemy capital ship in the area (fuck you Advent battle ball!), my Dunov's were restoring shields everywhere so that the minute any of my cap ships got too low on shields they regained them, my Sova's were laying missile turrets everywhere and sending out heavily armored fighters and bombers to wreak havoc, my Corsev's were stealing enemy frigates/cruisers left and right, and my Kol's were being awesome by charging into the fray with their heavy combat abilities (shoutout to my ship the Vigilus which took on three Rapture battlecruisers and won!)

I only lost a third of my frigates and cruisers and those were easily replaced. Sure when the battle was over I had to take twenty minutes to just sit there and repair everything, but my god the TEC are awesome.

How do you guys manage your fleet vs fleet battles? Mine always turn into a mess, where I cant focus my fire and then all goes to hell. Especially when my supporting fleet randomly decide taking position back beside the fleet leader is more important than the actual fighting...

DocJessa Since: Feb, 2012
#92: Jul 5th 2012 at 6:51:31 PM

Well, the thing is, you need to know how to manage your formations.

When you make a fleet, there's a setting for how close you want them to be, standard, loose, and tight. Bow chicka wow wow.

And as AI are wont to do, they will auto correct even during battle which gets annoying and causes problems in your strategy.

So, I find it best to have them in tight formation when making phase jumps as they all come out relatively close together. Then when I get to the battle I set it to standard or loose, depending on how the battle goes.

Sometimes if I know I'm going into a complicated battle I will disband my one big fleet and make a few smaller fleets cause it's more manageable.

#93: Jul 5th 2012 at 7:18:06 PM

Ah, so changing my formation would fix the problem? I see, I wanted to keep them tightly knitted all the time.

What does it change exactly? Apart from the formation when idle.

Also, fragmenting. Could be a good idea I guess, but Dark Souls taught me the divide and conquer tactic all too well, and now I am reticent at dividing in other games...

DocJessa Since: Feb, 2012
#94: Jul 5th 2012 at 7:22:49 PM

Not much really, it just sets how close they are to the lead ship at any given time and will auto correct to keep that distance.

So if at one edge of the battle, your lead ship chases off after a fleeing enemy, the other ships will follow, regardless of what they are doing.

Tight formation is terrible in a fleet vs fleet battle, so like I said just switch it to standard or loose.

So this is why. I'll keep that in mind, I didn't think the formation mattered so much.

Only really big battle I remember having is this one time where I was playing I THINK the TEC vs the Vasari and I attacked one of their planets with a massive fleet, causing a really big fleet of theirs to come at us. It was actually sort of anticlimactic, really all the big ships did was gather into two groups and shoot at one another while the fighters and bombers zoomed around. I believe we won that battle though.

You know, I think we all overlooked something: Rebellion is multiplayer, so why dont we play a game of two togethers?

I know that I dont like PVP, but playing coop against hard bots and the like can be fun. Dont you agree?

Oh, comp stomps are always fun. It's just that Sins is not a short game. I mean, one skirmish can take longer than some games' entire campaigns.

Well, we got cloud save for that. Albeit, yes, it is still very long.

My last two games each took 8 hours and more.

I remember it taking several nights for me to finish a campaign in Sins XD

But yeah, it does sound pretty fun for all of us to play a game of it together.
