Basic deal: canon characters have been altered by some sort of malevolent... thing. They develop an us versus them mentality - anyone who isn't altered is a threat to be eliminated.

It gets to the point where previously bitter rivals in canon are now friends. (Yes, seriously.)

The one thing I've been mulling over is if they see anyone who isn't altered as some sort of horrific monster - it'd make the canon characters less villainous, give them a reason besides "LOL AUTHOR INFECTED THEM WITH CONVENIENT NOT-A-ZOMBIE VIRUS" for killing people, reasonably keep their personalities (besides the fact there's no longer any ill-will between the canon characters) and sympathetic, but it'd rob the viewpoint characters of sympathy (this isn't helped by the fact they're more or less OCs).

On the other hand, it'd alter quite a few written scenes and it would be interesting to see dark, nasty versions of the canon characters, but the plot may already be GRIMDARK as it is.

Any thoughts?

There's nothing inherently dark about that at all.

This might sound douchey, but it's a reassurance, not an insult:

I've seen kids' shows with more evil villain backstories.

Just go on and write it, I think.

Project progress: The Adroan (102k words), The Pigeon Witch, (40k). Done but in need of reworking: Yume Hime, (50k)
