I really want to buy the DS collection. Genesis games on a handheld? Sign me up!

I never bought any of the collections. I prefer simply dusting off the old Genesis/Saturn/Dreamcast for the occasional boost of nostalgia. I mean, I'm only missing the Game Gear titles and Sonic the Fighters (Dreamcast).

I had the one with most of the Genesis games on it, but I sold that because really, emulators. I srill have the one with Sonic R and Sonic The Fighters, though.

I also like Sonic 3 D Blast.

I am completely, utterly, and thoroughly done with Sola Sonica and 2D

So, worse than Spax?

Wait, you don't mean Spax3, who did the CNASN Game Reviews, do you? I thought he quit You Tube a long time ago. If I remember correctly, he seemed like a decent Sonic fan. Hell, he put Sonic Heroes on his top ten Sonic games list.

Do we really want to start the soundtrack wars?

OK here it goes:

I prefer the Japanese version of the Sonic CD soundtrack and the Saturn version of the Sonic 3D Blast soundtrack.

What about you?

When did anyone mention music?

Anyway, my views are the complete opposite - for the most part I slightly prefer the English Sonic CD soundtrack (with several exceptions), and the Genesis version of the 3D Blast Soundtrack, particularly the Rusty Ruin theme.

Pretty much, my favorite Sonic soundtracks are:

  • 1: Sonic CD (Japanese and English pretty much tied)
  • 2: Sonic Colors
  • 3: Sonic 2
  • 4: Sonic Unleashed
  • 5: Sonic 3

But pretty much all the Sonic soundtracks are awesome.

For me:

  • Japanese Sonic CD
  • Sonic Adventure 2
  • Sonic 2
  • Sonic 3D Blast (Saturn)
  • Sonic 1
  • Sonic 2 (Sega Master System)
  • Sonic R
  • Sonic Adventure
  • Sonic 3
  • (not really a game but the Sonic anime OVA has two kickass songs, the South Island theme and "Look Alike".)

With the exception for Sonic Chronicles, I find all the Sonic soundtracks to be pretty awesome.

Sonics Schoolhouse had an awful soundtrack too.

I have to agree with Komodin for the most part, but Sonic The Hedgehog 4's synthesizers kinda got on my nerves after a while.

That's what I'm saying too. They're like some terrible trance presets from like Nexxus or FM 8 or something, NOTHING like Sonic should sound.

I remember Chibi-Tech was being all douchey and saying something to the effect of "Sonic Chronicles is proof Richard Jacques can't do anything without the power of his studio" because the soundtrack sucked. Well for one, that coming from a 30-something crossdresser who makes chiptunes (and thinks that to be the best style of music in the world) is a RIOT! Secondly Richards Jacques only made a few songs, the majority was composed by Steve Sim. Still sucks, but it's not RJ's fault.

I hope that for Episode II they use some of Jun Senoue's epic guitar riffs. That would work.

or just being tasteful with the synths, like this:

which plays in the SA 2:B bonus level, in case you didn't know:

I liked Sonic 4's music, especially the Lost Labrynth levels. The only Sonic games with music I find bad is Sonic Chronicles and Sonic Spinball. Like to play Spinball, but not Chronicles.

They should make a second spinball. That game was fun as all hell.

@chocoboxxx: I didn't really find his stuff for Sonic 3D Blast (PC) or Sonic And The Black Knight to be very good, either. >.>

Agreed. At least on the condition that Silver and Blaze are playable. I hate Silver, but man could he be awesome in a fighter.

Sonic Battle had a great deal of unexplored potential. Just like Sonic the Fighters.

Have I talked about my idea for an Archie Sonic based fighting game? Man I could just ramble on and on about that idea.

If this becomes a discussion on that game, we should move it to that thread, but: my biggest (of few) complaints with Sonic Battle is that with the right Emerl, the game becomes absurdly easy.

Being a general Sonic thread, I do believe in depth discussion on any title is fair game.

Emerl + Chaos' attacks = instawin.

Sonic the Hedgehog was the main reason I bothered playing the Genesis during my childhood. I still love the 2D games, and I would play my cousin's Sonic Adventure demo for the Dreamcast every time I visited her house.

Who has listened/owns the Video Games Live version of the Staff Credits? I remembered going to Video Games Live when they were in Birmingham. When they started that piece and the choir sang "SEGA!", I felt my heart was going to explode! And then they played Spring Yard Zone and my head bobbed to the music! I had to get that Level Two CD the moment it came out!
