Rant, ho!
I don't so much need a story arc as I would prefer some degree of continuity. I grew up with a lot of cartoons that just did whatever they wanted whenever - and I rarely liked them. I want to see more cartoons like Gargoyles and Transformers Beast Wars and Reboot and Spectacular Spiderman where characters grow and evolve. I'm not really a fan of the slapstick comedy hour stuff.
When I was a kid I was inundated with Looney Tunes, Tom and Jerry, Underdog, Scooby Doo, Josie and the Pussycats, Hong Kong Phooey - couldn't bring myself to care what was going on in those shows because every week, something different. It's why I flocked to I was very much into Ed Edd n Eddy, Reboot, Courage the Cowardly Dog, Jackie Chan Adventures, Mucha Lucha, Buzz Lightyear, and Teen Titans - which had their own bouts of doing whatever they wanted, but they had continuity that mattered. Anime became my favorite indulgence because continuity mattered - Project A-ko, Dragonball, Yugioh, Shaman King, Zoids Chaotic Century, you name it, it had a storyline that you could follow and get engaged in.
The thing with continuity/seriousness in a cartoon to me is that, if the jokes don't land or the characters aren't very endearing then the cartoon doesn't really have much else to offer. If there's at least some acknowledgment that a character who showed up last week remembers that our plucky young hero threw a pie in their face and wants vengeance, then I can at least feel like my time watching this show from week to week is being rewarded.
That said, I'm polite enough I don't think I'll relentlessly blast those types of cartoons. Everything has it's place. I prefer SATAM to AOSTH, but it's not like I come here to criticize the latter all the time.
And despite everything I've said, I actually like Sonic Boom.

I'M MR. MEESEEKS, LOOK AT ME!Wait... is WA short for Western Animation?
De Romanīs, lingua Latina gloriosa non fuī.Except the whole "Android" thing was a bad translation, wasn't it? Wasn't the original line closer to "Clone"?
Shadow clones ruling the earth makes a lot more sense than Shadow androids ruling...
Oissu!In this context, yes.
I think android would be an better fit. After all, since when did clones shoot rockets out of their wrists?
Answer no master, never the slave Carry your dreams down into the grave Every heart, like every soul, equal to breakBut wouldn't it be blatantly obvious Shadow himself was not an android as soon as anything ended up damaging him and he bled? At least there's some ambiguity with being a clone.
Oissu! From what I can gather from online dictionaries, the Japanese word for "clone" is kurōn, while the Japanese word for "android" is either jinzōningen or hitogata robotto. Keep in mind, I am nowhere near fluent in Japanese.
De Romanīs, lingua Latina gloriosa non fuī.According to Tvtropes own Artificial Human page, the Japanese word that implies an artificial human is often translated as android even if that's not really what they were going for.

Oissu!Which kind of explains Dragonball, but it doesn't really explain how an clone can "throw" rockets. Unless they're really are robots and Eggman is just fucking with Shadow.
Answer no master, never the slave Carry your dreams down into the grave Every heart, like every soul, equal to break@39751:
Sure, there are a few exceptions.
To pity someone is to tell them "I feel bad about being better than you."I posted a Yack Fest thread about story arc shows and episodic shows if anyone wants to continue that discussion,. https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/posts.php?discussion=15265824190A18341100&page=1#1
The Protomen enhanced my life.So is Sonic Forces any good? Because I have an Switch, barely have any games for it, and I'm kinda bored.
Answer no master, never the slave Carry your dreams down into the grave Every heart, like every soul, equal to breakDo you like Modern Sonic?
Do you like avatar creation?
If yes to both of those questions, then it'd be worth the investment - but you aren't going to get anything revolutionary
If yes to only one of them, you may or may not like it.
If yes to neither of those questions, you probably want to wait for the next entry.
That is to say, it's a rather average game with a below average Classic Sonic.
I meant the gameplay style, not the character specifically.

I do writing, feel free to check out my stories here! https://numbugwritingblog.tumblr.com/post/686233243868102656/numbugs-shared-heroic-uniSaying that Modern Sonic automatically makes an game good is like saying that casting Peter Cullen as Optimus Prime somehow makes an boring game great.
I also hate avatar creation, unless it has an important and entertaining role in the story like Fire Emblem Awakening.
Answer no master, never the slave Carry your dreams down into the grave Every heart, like every soul, equal to breakWell, you're in luck. Like Awakening, the Avatar is the Deuteragonist.
A cruel, sick joke is still a joke, and sometimes all you can do is laugh.Actually, I have Awakening. Thought it was pretty funny to have someone with no credentials to mock the UI and come up with an few insane plans.
Answer no master, never the slave Carry your dreams down into the grave Every heart, like every soul, equal to break...yes. That's usually the saving grace of a bad Transformers-anything.
I'M MR. MEESEEKS, LOOK AT ME!Yeah, but that excuse starts to get old the third or fourth time I see it. I blame it on the writers.
Answer no master, never the slave Carry your dreams down into the grave Every heart, like every soul, equal to breakJust to clarify what I was saying, I was referring to the gameplay style, not the character specifically.

If you're looking for a 3D platformer, Super Mario Odyssey is a better game. If you want Sonic, Sonic Mania is a better game. If you want to play some 3D Sonic, though, Sonic Generations is your best bet. It's not on the Switch, but it's a damn good game.
Has the relations between humans and (anthropomorphic) animals ever been addressed? Ignoring the Archie comics.
As a joke by Boom, once.
Sega has danced around the topic for a while, sometimes having the world feature only humans with Sonic and co. being the only animal-people and sometimes having the world feature only animal people with Eggman being the only human. At times, this... makes less sense than it should. That the Modern games staunchly show no animal-people at all besides Sonic's specific group of friends, and Lost World Sonic is best pals with a bunch of non-anthropomorpic animals, only makes things weirder.
Meanwhile the various adaptations typically jump through highly elaborate loops in creating excessive explanations for it.
I've always felt the whole thing was breeding unnecessary examination. They should just have it be a world where both humans and animal-folk both live - maybe not always in the same place, but etc. Simple to show: just have a shot of a city with both humans and animal-folk walking around. Nice bit of flavor. Doesn't take much effort. Nips the whole thing in the bud. There are far weirder co-existences in media.

"The difference between reality and fiction is that fiction has to make sense." - Tom Clancy, paraphrasing Mark Twain.Iizuka never had a decent statement on that matter. His most recent one is that both human world and "Mobius" are separate.
Maybe the time has come to take the fact that, for Sonic, not even Word of God is reliable anymore.
Growing up, it's like a civil war, don't turn away, it's something you can't ignore...
@Physical Stamina
That's not entirely true. The Amazing World Of Gumball is a pretty popular show and it's pure comedy!
I need to watch that whole series someday.
