General Sonic The Hedgehog thread

Shadow can play like Sonic without any issue; hell, that's the reason behind his existence to begin with. Knuckles and Silver... I wouldn't really be comfortable with them being functional reskins to be honest. I would enjoy them being playable (in fact, more than getting Classic Sonic or the custom character), but can't really see it being well played at this point.

However, if it became the case, I'd be pleasantly surprised.

So in other words, you wouldn't mind playing as Shadow...

This joke could have been better-formatted. Mistakes were made.

Well, the Sonic games being platformers with minimalistic plots (even including the Dreamcast Era games) never really went into the subject of Eggman having supporters. It helps that both Sat AM/Archie Eggman with Underground Eggman had ruled since the Freedom Fighters were small critters (giving enough time for a significant amount of the population to get used to it and even support it over alternatives) and that Sonic with Knuckles' rogues gallery has gotten so big that there's no shortage of selfish, abused, and otherwise slimy characters to rally behind The Eggman.

I meant his position in society. Should have said that.

The Western versions have him as an invader who conquered much of Mobius/Earth/Whatever and ruled until Sonic ran by. Sonic X had him as a terrorist who was an enemy to both human and animal civilization. The games have him as both a rogue and some Lex Luthor analogue (in the spinoffs anyway).

I meant Classic Sonic. Sonic centered forums, boards, and others that I've browsed have had the Modern/Classic split be polarizing.

That bit of gameplay for Shadow better explain something. Like why he's joined the losing side. Or going-to-lose side. I mean, we're the protagonists and we're gonna set that shit straight.

I'm starting to guess he's a double-agent. In all the trailers that's shown him he hasn't had that "glitchy" effect that Chaos Zero and Metal Sonic have had. That still leaves what the hell Zavoc is doing here up in the air, but eh.

Zavok is existing. It's... About all he was good for, because god knows nobody actually cares about him.

Then again, I try to ignore all of Lost World. I have bad memories of the 3DS's underwater drill levels.

So I played three different levels in Sonic World and I glitched through the floor and died in all three of them. In a fourth, the game just started freaking out in odd ways before I hit a rainbow ring and just got stuck.

Yeah, I think I'll just stick to playing SA and SA2 for now. At least I know where those games can break and how.

Is the red mist that seems to be circling around Shadow Infinite's doing?

That makes me wish that Sonic games borrowed a page from Speed Runners and had the screen close in on you. Having Shadow's levels be harder because Infinite is actively messing with Shadow is a fun idea.

Eh, when that happens, I just use the Moonjump and Object Placement. Debugging works wonders.

The level is literally a bunch of homing attack chains. If that's good design to you, cool but to me it exemplifies everything wrong with boost level design.

Perhaps as a bit of clarification, Sonic Tumblr says that Shadow has three levels, and then can be played in Modern Sonic's levels.

So, the bulk of his content is probably as a skin for Modern Sonic level replays with no story.

Shadow pretty clearly has a stronger homing attack than Sonic's.

He seems to also have a light speed dash but used against enemies instead of with rings.

I think the problem is Green Hill wasn't designed with Shadow's abilities in mind. No telling if this is different for other levels or they just decided to throw him in last minute ala Tails in SA2.

Shadow has three levels specifically that are designed with him in mind, and I'm assuming Green Hill is one of them.

The Shadow DLC looks pretty good. Nothing more to say on it. Nice that it's free.

The Youtube video mentions 'the fate of team Dark' and I believe something mentioned Shadow looking for Omega's signal?

So I'm worried about Omega, and Team Dark in general.

Brainwashing is so boring, I'd prefer Shadow's reasoning being to save Omega, since it seems like Omega might be in trouble.

Well, Rouge is in the trailer with the rest of the resistance, so she'll be fine.

I'm assuming Shadow & Rouge attempt to find out what happened to Omega, they get captured by Eggman and Infinite. Rouge escapes, Shadow is brainwashed. Rouge joins the resistance to rescue her friends.
