So disrespectful! Yeah, Chaotix is shit.
I wouldn't say Chaotix is terrible, but more like wasted potential.
(Then again you can call a lot of things in the franchise that).
Please help out our The History Of Video Games page. The one thing that held Chaotix down was being 32x exclusive.
It's not Ogre, It's Never Ogre. No, the one thing that held Chaotix down is its utterly banal level design. The gimmick is kind of interesting, the boss fights are inventive, the soundtrack is catchy, the graphics and graphical effects are spiffy, and the special stages are arguably the best in the series - but the level design is meandering, frequently lacks landmarks to orient yourself around, and never seems to go anywhere meaningful. It turns what could be a decent game into just thoroughly mediocre - and that'd have been true even if Chaotix launched for the Saturn instead.
Moon◊Huh, that's actually how I feel about Shadow's level design. That game tends to feel like your going to the same place over and over again for all but for a select few levels.
And that's another game with great ideas brought down by a slew of bad ones.
At least it has no alternate gameplay. Again, am I the only one that credits it for that?
Please help out our The History Of Video Games page.I liked the concept of the Cyberworld level in Shadow The Hedgehog (I also liked the Circus level). Now that I look back on it though they could of done those much better.
They never really explain why you fight Aliens and Robots in there. I guess the enemies are technically viruses or something? And your the antivirus?
The fact that I can't remember is probably not a good thing...

Formerly known as Bleddyn And I am feeling like a ghost Resident Perky GothThe Eggman version of the stage explains that they're effectively safeguarding his systems. You're discouraged from attacking them since that supposedly tips him off on what you're doing (not that it matters either way at the end, of course).
Really foggy on Mad Matrix though. Something something invading the internet something.
"Tell them to shut up and have some faith in me." - dead flashback guyBest thing Chaotix did was the music and the character designs. I actually think the chaotix crew got less interesting (and more annoying) when they redebuted in Heroes.
I don't remember much else about the game aside from the pretty awful and random level design.
They should remake Shadow with all of the flaws fixed same for 06 as well
Cut off one head 2 more shall take it's place! Hail HydraI think that's the point. I remember going back through that one stage with Knuckles, the ruins, and the giant tornado that carries you both halfway through, dozens of times. Well, 3-4 times, but certain objectives require you to loop back through the stage IIRC.
And what is this about alternate gameplay now? We don't like playing as Eggman, Tails, Knuckles, or anybody other than Sonic?
Akira Toriyama (April 5 1955 - March 1, 2024).Fixing the gameplay of either game won't make their respective stories any better.
Or we don't like playing special stages?
I watched Shay May's last Sonic Spitball vid. I have to say, I think I really want to play his game, and I agree with almost all of his points towards the end. A more physics dependent Sonic in 3D seems really interesting, even if it isn't always as blindingly fast as modern games.

Thanks, SoA.
Yeah, Chip Cheezum was hired on as their stream czar or something. I'd say it's worked out pretty well for them.
Probably also explains why he's not SA's LP mod anymore.
I only caught the end of the stream, from Spinball onward (live!), but it was actually pretty respectful of the franchise, sticking mostly with the games that were good (and Chaotix).
