Oh, we got close to that once. Between me and a fellow Dragon Knight. Challenged me to a spar in the middle of the night after we finished the repairs on the local inn.
Nearly stabbed my throat, we're lucky we're both well trained.
Deerpond
Lina inhaled sharply.
Yikes... yeah, I would say you got lucky!
anger mode: ONPond
It's restraint, not luck.
Of all the Dragon Knights, I say she's earned a lot of my respect for that.
Deerpond
No kidding...
That whole bit seems to have put Lina on edge a bit. I'm sure she'll be fine...
anger mode: ONPond
Oh, I'm sorry.
This conversation might've been a bit too intense for you.
-Fratley scratches the side of his head-
When a memory comes up I just tend to spit it all out.
Deerpond
It happens. No need to be sorry for it.
She made a shrugging motion, and then looks back out to the pond. Sighing, she shakes her head.
So... what's it like, living where you do?
anger mode: ONPond
It's mainly busy work these days. We're repairing Burmecia. And getting the cobblestone ready for Cleyra's restoration as well. The tree holding up our country was heavily damaged when Odin attacked it.
Deerpond
Eesh. Sounds tough. What'd you do to have that happen?
anger mode: ONPond
...
I think I'm the only Burmecian that doesn't quite know.
I lost my memory a few years ago, and only came back home hours before the attack.
Deerpond
Ah. Just wondered what you did to incur the wrath of an elder Norse deity, is all. Still sounds pretty bad.

It was rough, but thankfully it wasn't as bad as it first looked.
Thanks to a brave priest's barrier, many lives were saved when Odin destroyed most of Cleyra at the cost of his own.
A band of heroes also helped me escort people to safe zones during the attack as well.
Deerpond
Well, that's good! Mitigating death is always a good thing. (In most cases...)
It's funny you mention something like a magic barrier though... it reminded me I needed to go and practice my magic, since I haven't yet today...
anger mode: ONPond
Ah, so even ghosts train in the afterlife?
That's quite impressive of you. What's your specialty?
Most people in my realm wield magical abilities, though I'm more well known for my skills with a lance. In case of emergency, all knights are taught healing spells.

Deerpond
I have a wide range of tricks up my non-existent sleeves.
Using a pair of the hands from earlier, she unzips her cloak and produces a book of spells from it. The hands go away, and Lina keeps it afloat using the telekinesis from the ball attached to her back.
All thanks to this spell book, of course.
anger mode: ONPond
Ah, a spell book? So you're a really experienced mage, huh?
I've seen plenty of magic ever since I got back home, but telekinesis is certainly new to me.
Deerpond
I would... suppose so, yeah! I only practice so I can remember how to cast the spells without having to look at the book every time. And the ball can just sort of... do that. I don't worry about it anymore.
anger mode: ONPond
Mmh, memorization is quite important. A warrior has no time on the battle field to look up the exact spell you need.
Hell, the king forced me to pour through a few textbooks the day after I came home with amnesia.
Deerpond
Mmf. Don't like that. But I do see where you're coming from, with the whole "no time" thing.

Mmh. Time is uh, short.
Sorry. I'm being dreary again.
-Fratley pulls the brim of his hat down-
Deerpond
Lina fell silent, not really knowing what else to say. Her eyes fluttered closed as she tried to think of another conversation topic, maybe one that wouldn't make Fratley downcast...
Her spellbook remained suspended in mid-air, open to a bookmarked page.
anger mode: ONPond
Hmm? What's this spell?
-Fratley points a talon at the bookmarked page, his eyes squinting to get a better look-
I can't read these runes.
Deerpond
Whuh? Ah, uh, let me see—
The book is open to one of Lina's more common spells, judging from its worn quality. Its name is "Icewind".
Ah... of course you couldn't read it, it's in a ghost's language.
anger mode: ONPond
Ghost's language? So you're saying that we all have to learn a new language when we die?
My, I was hoping to relax.
Deerpond
It comes naturally as being a ghost. It's mostly magic, really; I don't have to explain much.
anger mode: ON
pond
That's understandable. I suppose no truly sane person would ask someone to stab them to prove a point.
