Quite a blade you have in your hands.

(comments Strythos◊ from across the roof)

He looks up and turns towards him. Strythos could see that the sword had its fair share of dings.

"Thank you, I guess," he said, looking for any signs that he carried a similar sword.

(on his hip is a straight sword with a hand-and-a-half hilt - however, his looks far more pristine and ornate, furnished with gold on the hilt and with a black jewel for the pommel)

"Did you make that yourself?"

Mm?

(traces Link's line of sight to his sword, looking down at it)

No. Well, I simply rehilted it - the blade I didn't forge.

"Good handiwork," he said. "The materials must've been hard to come by."

Mm.

(looks back at Link's sword)

Tell me, how long have you had that?

"A few weeks. I used to have another like this, but that's long gone. This was given to me."

That figures. Weapons are meant to be cycled through, even a status symbol like a sword.

"Isn't that the truth."

He puts the sword back in the scabbard at his hip.

"What is your name?"

Strythos. And yours?

"Link. I'm sure it's a pleasure."

Mm.

I have certain magics that I need to refine, and I'm certain you need to keep in shape for that sword and armor of yours. So - how do you feel about a spar?

He tilts his head and smirks.

"That's an — unusual way of greeting someone."

No, it's probably the ennui of this place. I've been growing restless.

"Well, then, if you insist."

He reaches at his back and pulls a shield from his armor. It's in a similar condition to the sword he carries.

Oh, before we begin—

(Strythos snaps his fingers)

(and between him and Link, black mana appears from the atmosphere and coalesces into a figure)

(this figure is a man with sickly, almost zombie-like skin, but who is covered in armor and a mask seemingly made of lapis lazuli, carrying a greatsword over his shoulder)

He glances over at Strythos.

"I do hope this is just a test," he said, "and not some elaborate way to try to kill me."

This is a test - for both of you. Standing before you is one of my Eternals, soldiers of my own creation. I wish to test its capabilities, but not against the untrained.

(without a word, the Eternal hoists the greatsword off his shoulder, holding it at the ready)

And don't hesitate to kill it.

"Great way to start the day," he muttered as he pulled the sword with his right hand from the scabbard. He bends his knees slightly.

"Go ahead."

...

(still silent as the grave, the Eternal slashes at Link's center mass)

(it's taking advantage of its greatsword's length, keeping its distance and just feeling out Link's style with this strike)

He lunges forward and swats his shield against the greatsword, knocking it out of the way. He lifts the sword up and tries to cleave into the Eternal.

(the Eternal raises its gauntlet made of blue stone, blocking Link's strike)

(then, it lunges forward and... grips its sword across the blade◊, getting up very close and thrusting at Link like its sword is a spear)

He's caught in the torso, but only just. He hisses he sidesteps, and waits for the Eternal's next move.

(the Eternal, rather than put its right hand back on its sword's hilt, instead takes this momentary reprieve to... put its right hand on the blade and hold the sword backwards◊ what's it even)
