Of course not, Thorn. Which is why this is bullshit.

[up][up] It's trends like this that make me convinced it's only a matter of time until parents can't even document their children's early lives, because if they happen to be in some state of nudity or undress (as simple as taking a bath), all it takes is one person to speak up and then BAM! Perfectly decent parents put away for child pornography, despite it being nothing but images of how children naturally are.

This is very stupid, and the people responsible deserve to be slapped across the face and have, "SNAP OUT OF IT!" yelled at them.

You know what the irony is. I bet at least one of those kids is being molested by a relative right under the nose of these Knight Templar Parents and they don't have a clue because they're too absorbed in senseless nonsense like this.

Hell, if I were a betting man, I'd put money on one of the parents molesting their child. This sort of cognitive dissonance doesn't come from nowhere, it takes industrial grade hypocrisy to convince people to make mountains out of such molehills.

Or the majority of those making threats are just the usual dumb parents who probably don't even have a basic understanding of what Youtube is, and might not even get that the video was edited together later. Many of them probably haven't even seen it.

If I were placing any bets on intentions, I'd probably bet on Poe's Law even if I might have reason to think otherwise.

[up] Even if he was actually singing it to the kids in person, I don't think that deserves a felony charge. It's irresponsible and probably worthy of something, but slinging felonies around should be for more serious stuff.

[up][up][up] ... breastfeeeding? A sexual act? BREASTFEEDING??!!

Next it won't even be legal for parents to see their own children naked. Better blind-fold everyone in the delivery room! *cries*

The real ironic thing? People panic about sexually objectifying children, but cases like these are doing it more and more, to the point where normal childhood acts are seen as sexual. It's making the very idea of sexual abuse lose all relevant meaning, and making one element of childhood after another arbitrarily taboo.

Unless these are just incredibly isolated events born of a perfect storm of moral panic, opportunistic prosecutors, misunderstanding, and callus apathy. Even if they're outliers, legal precedence is a scary thing unless legislation is enacted that intentionally reverses the trend.

Unfortunately, any legislation that fights against this sort of injustice must be worded to allow certain depictions of nudity and bodily acts, which would likely get shouted down for being "pro child pornography".

Because apparently nudity in and of itself is abusive.

Blah, sorry for the rant here. This stuff bothers me.

I wrote about my distaste for paedocentric moral panics, if anyone's interested; much of what I said then applies here.

[up] 20 years for sexually suggestive material, 7 years for actual molestation? How does THAT work?

Very good essay though. I had heard about that book a while back. I think obscenity laws are bull as well, all it takes is to try a person in a different jurisdiction that will ensure a conviction, even if it's in another state. Imagine trying that with any other charge?
