Is there any reason to use anything besides the shotgun, the sniper rifle, and a few stabs to the face? Because seriously, Why use a AR when the Shotgun is just better and why use a Pistol when knifing is quicker?
Apocalypse: Dirge Of Swans. The pistol is silenced, for one, has burst fire, and it seems to do good damage against the wildlife, with the obvious exception being the goddamned Blood Dragons. (Christ, you people made it sound like they're easy to kill but those things will murder the shit out of you if you get caught in a corner or open field!)
The Assault rifle though... yeah, that thing's a waste of time, even when fully upgraded. It's loud, doesn't do enough damage, and worst of all it's laser upgrade isn't as powerful as I'd like and the drastically reduced ROF makes it closer to a battle rifle than a carbine or proper automatic. Which, ironically, ends up making the frigging pistol the better weapon for "spray-n-pray" tactics or situations where a ton of lead is required.
The one weapon that's ironically turning out to be FAR more useful than most of the new toys, despite not having any upgrades (so far) is the Neon Bow. It's almost completely silent, kills most human targets in one hit even if you miss their vitals, and the ammo is both easy to come by and replenish. It's just aiming the thing that's the tricky part, but honestly that just makes the bow even more fun to use.
I actually found that the laser rifle (post upgrade) was one of the best weapons for general use, if you are a good shot. It drops most enemies in a few hits and ammo is plentiful (unlike the Galleria and the Kobracon, which suffer from chronic shortages) and its incredibly accurate to boot. I was handing out headshots left and right with it by the end.
The pistol is generally restricted to stealth though, and it gets overshadowed by takedowns in the situation.
Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects.Does anybody know how to download the soundtrack through Uplay? I redeemed all the songs, but when I click the Download button, it opens a new tab in Firefox that doesn't work and just displays a blank white page.
"Hipsters: the most dangerous gang in the US." - Pacific MackerelIs the pistol even good for stealth? I noticed its pitiful damage means that not even a headshot will drop an enemy, and once that first shot connects, they'll know you're there.
So are the missions you get from liberated garrisons randomized? If not, point me to the one with "Ruining Everything" because I want to unlock full auto for the Fazertron.

You see the outpost location about 15 seconds in.
That was the major problem I had with the pistol and why I stuck with takedowns for stealth anyway. Which is pretty easy when you taken into account how fast Rex is. The pistol is decent before you upgrade everything else and passable at short range when you don't have ammo for the Galleria.

Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects.Man, having explosive rounds and the semi-auto upgrade on the Kobracon make Blood Dragons almost trivial. I ended up maxing Rex out and I've only done like three story missions.
Kinda disappointed with the Fazertron, I thought getting the full auto upgrade would increase its ROF but nope, just lets you hold the trigger down for something like 500 rpm. I guess I'll stick with the Terror 4000.
I found that using the Terror 4000 drove my ammunition costs up too much. In the end I just used the Fazertron as a mid range precision weapon and it worked out fine.
Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects.Funny, I had so much money that resupplying wasn't a concern.
Anyways, I just beat it. All I can say is: ludicrously awesome.
"Hipsters: the most dangerous gang in the US." - Pacific MackerelBeat it just a bit ago. Roughly 6/8 hoursish. Having problems with the kill 25 dragon cheevo though. The problem is that I ignored 99% of them through the story and lib'd all the garrisons already. If they respawn I guess I can just fast travel to the different outposts and hope I get lucky.
I've also started a second run. This time I'm ignoring everything to finish the main quest ASAP. That final item is so freakin' awesome I'll just casually stroll into outposts and take em down.
Is using "Julian Assange is a Hillary butt plug" an acceptable signature quote? They do respawn infinitely if somewhat sporadically. Least that's the impression I got when going for the achievement to kill a dragon with the neon bow.
Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects. It's a whole lot easier to get that achievement when you realize that you only need to use the bow for the killing shot. That means you can lure in a Blood Dragon to attack an outpost, let it get worn out, weaken it some more with your other guns (preferably the Kobracon), and then make the last few shots at it's glowing belly with the bow. LOTS easier that way, as well as getting the 25 Blood Dragon Kills achievement!
Please tell me that achievement is a Turok reference.
I miss Turok.
I'm pretty sure it's an Archer reference.
That's how I did it. I can't imagine someone having the patience to do it with only the bow.
Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects.Seems like the U-Play service didn't sync up with a lot of the achievements I unlocked, because many of them are still considered incomplete. That's rather annoying, especially since a LOT of them happen to be near the end of the game or require a ton of item-hunting...
Just beat Blood Dragon.
Best. Stand. Alone. DLC. Ever.
But did it at least give you the achievements and U-Play points???
Got all the Achievements. No U-Play points though, though I could care less about those.
^^Well, you can use the points to purchase songs from the game, but I have trouble downloading them, for some reason.
^Hopefully they don't try and make it a yearly thing like AC. I think the guys at Ubisoft Montreal deserve to take as much time as they want/can get with Far Cry.
"Hipsters: the most dangerous gang in the US." - Pacific MackerelSo.. Blood Dragon...
I'm guessing it still uses Uplay even on Steam? Can anyone tell me how obtrusive it is?
Depends on your definition of "obtrusive." If you can tolerate having to use Steam every time you want to play a game from Steam, then maybe you can tolerate having to use UPlay for games that use it.
