t's probably just that the internet has allowed some many people who don't like the kid to voice their opinions.
♥♥II'GSJQGDvhhMKOmXunSrogZliLHGKVMhGVmNhBzGUPiXLYki'GRQhBITqQrrOIJKNWiXKO♥♥There's the fact that he became famous through the internet as well. It was inevitably going to happen to somebody, but that get the same kind of adverse reaction as somebody who won the X Factor as far as "serious music fans" are concerned.
It makes people assume there was no work involved, and fame was essentially handed to them without any effort on the part of the artist. It isn't fair because it isn't necessarily true, but that's just the way it is.
We call it "playing doctor" not shotacon.
"It baffles me how someone who looks like a twelve year old girl can be considered hot, and also how he gets so many rappers in his songs...?" - piearty
I guess he gets rappers in his songs because he's commercially profitable like rappers are and the same higher-ups in business are in charge of said rappers' music as well as Bieber's.
As for him being considered hot, that probably has to do with the average age demographic of his fanbase. o.o
A part of me thinks Bieber is actually a pretty cool guy, who's fully aware that he's just a simulacrum created in order to get pre-pubescent girls crying for his name.
But then again, I have more respect for him just 'cause he went on The Daily Show and did this really weird Freaky Friday bit with Jon. So, go figure.
(Threadhopping, but just wanted to say this)
Entertainment doesn't equal music.
Beiber is entertainment.
If you doubt this, re-watch his performance last night at the Grammy's.
To quote Bob Lefsetz:
Give credit to Muse, at least they sang while the dancers performed.
The Bieb is so FAUX! In leather, singing/dancing to beats, imitating every music video he's ever seen. He's a mirror star!
Meanwhile, it's not a bad song. But performed at a level of sub-NKOTB amateurishness.
I have to say that if you spend an inordinate time despising a teenager whose only wrong towards you is being the latest face of the entertainment industry, then I pityyou.
INT is knowing a tomato is a fruit. WIS is knowing it doesn't belong in a fruit salad. CHA is convincing people that it does.^ Hey gotta do something to fill the empty void in my life.
I'm sure Bieber would share a hearty laugh about his own fakeness with his hearters five years down the road~
Or not. Some of those types are more self-aware than others...
I wonder what he would say if he knew that some people want to murder him just for being a talentless entertainment whore.
There was an interesting discussion on the radio a few days ago, talking about how he had visited Madison Square Garden (I think) for a basketball game, and when they were doing the whole "look at the celebrities that we have in the crowd" bit, they put him up on the jumbotron and he got booed for nearly 45 seconds. People thought it was a riot.
All I have to say is — If humanity needs a person to hate, do it. Hell, we pay Beibs enough to take it. If I was him, I'd hardly consider the hatedom cruel or unwarrented if I was 14 and making the bread he was. As long as I'm getting that check, people could call me Hitler's fuck buddy for all I care.
I just don't think he's a good musician.
He's obviously a good entertainer, or he wouldn't be doing as well as he is.
It's all niche, anyway, and he's not in mine, or a whole lot of other people's that I know.
So, fuck it, fight it, or love it, it's just entertainment you don't have to watch.
In times of change, learners inherit the Earth and the learned find themselves perfectly equipped to deal with a world that no longer exists@Zed Because money heals all wounds, am I right?
@SS I think he would think they need to get their priorities straight.
There's no justice in the world and there never was~Come on, He's got two realities, and I'm fairly certain he's aware enough to identify both of them.
A. He's on stage, a vocal miority of prepube girls fucking going ballistic for him, and a record company cutting him checks that are obscene for any adult and beyond the impossible for any normal 14 year old.
B. He has another vocal minority who just plain doesn't like him. Even some who hate him, for their own ridiculous reasons.
C. A majority, surprise surprise, that doesn't even know who he is — or, they just plain don't give a shit about it. You'd be surprised to find how many people actually have not an iota of recognition for the name "Beiber".
I mean, isn't that just like anyone else's life? Minus the big checks, of course. And with the addition of the people that like you losing their Goddamned heads over you. You have people that love you, people that hate you and a huge majority of people that don't even know you and don't want to bother to.
I'm just saying that if I was him, Checks and fame > People that disparage me + People that don't care.
In times of change, learners inherit the Earth and the learned find themselves perfectly equipped to deal with a world that no longer existsI'm not sure if it is so, but it seems oddly that Justin Bieber may be hated more than other pop stars.
I don't see Lady Gaga getting the same hatred.
Genkidama for Japan, even if you don't have money, you can help![1]Might I posit the idea that anybody over the age of 15 feels that Gaga has more validity than Beiber as a musician because
A. She's older. B. She was an early age admission to NYU's Tisch's School of the Arts. C. She studied art and music. D. She's classically trained.
I'm not a huge fan of Gaga's, but I'd never try to throwdown with her over a musicianship contest. She could school a lot of musician's asses in regards to proficency.
I think that it's just a lot of people don't see Beiber as having put in his 10,000 hours yet. Resentful or not, it's pretty much true.
Edited for spelling errors.

In times of change, learners inherit the Earth and the learned find themselves perfectly equipped to deal with a world that no longer existsI see.
That older part is a bit silly though. Look at child prodigy musicians such as Emily Bear. For all that she's trained, I can't say that I'm very impressed at how she's using it.
But I at least have a better understanding of why she gets more respect than most idols. I don't think this is information the typical human being knows, though. And I don't know of too many other pop idols whom get as much hatred as Bieber.
I'm twenty-five and have listened to thousands of artists over my life and I still hadn't heard anything like this about Lady Gaga until now.

Genkidama for Japan, even if you don't have money, you can help![1]He was shadowed by a journalist from the Guardian a short while ago and the subject of his hatedom came up. I really can't remember what his attitude was, unfortunately. I'll see if I can find the article.
I'm not really sure it's a matter of how many hours/years they've put in. I mean, I'd listen to Jackie Evancho over Bieber or Gaga any day — though I do respect that Gaga is a lot more flexible than her usual work lets on and I wish she'd do more of that
& Well, I think that both of those arguments of "Well, what about X prodigy, they are really good, why not them" is a bit more about taste than anything.
Keeping truer to the point of the thread, I think that for the reasons stated above about Gaga getting more respect than Beiber are the reasons it's "cool" to hate on him.
I mean, mostly, people who don't like him just just don't listen to him. Others, who just enjoy hating on him, I think it's about decrying a breakout flash-in-the-pan child star and saying that he doesn't deserve the fame because he's not had time to develop his true musical chops. I think the other part of it is just trolling.
This happens every time there's a young star that breaks out for a few hit songs — anybody remember anyone who came before this last breed of Disney/Nick/Web stars? Will we remember these in a few years? Probably not. And it's not just a case of NOHAMOTYO Just the nature of the hitmaking beast that is the Big Three music industry.
And one more idea that I'd like to bring up — perhaps, the hatedom is so vocal because it's primarily web-based. Beiber is one of the first generation of Youtube media giants that's gotten this much notoriety. Maybe the hate is so palpable online because he's from our world. The web. You know what they say about prophets in their own town.
In times of change, learners inherit the Earth and the learned find themselves perfectly equipped to deal with a world that no longer exists@Exterminator Zed I'm pretty sure Bieber is 16-17, not 14.
somethingYou're right.
March 1, 1994.
Though I don't see how that invalidates anything, really.
In times of change, learners inherit the Earth and the learned find themselves perfectly equipped to deal with a world that no longer existsNot really tryin' to invalidate anything, but it's best to get the details right when you're in a discussion.
somethingValid. I looked up the Gaga facts to make sure I was straight on that. I just went with my gut on Beiber's age. I should know better. No reason not to know things like that when I have the world's info supply at my fingertips.
And porn.
There's a lot of porn on that Internet.
In times of change, learners inherit the Earth and the learned find themselves perfectly equipped to deal with a world that no longer existsI think this is worth taking a look at

Ummm...theres something wrong with that line...
Is a 8 year old boy who did all sorts of naughty things with his 7 year old girlfriend a Lolicon?
Now heres the thing...Your Mileage May Vary.
In truth, he is exactly as talented as several popular past artists who's time have ended already. Justin Bieber is just the current Tupac. He's the current Kanye West. He's the current Vanilla Ice. He's the current Eminem. He's the current Britney Spears.
They're all the same. You don't think those other artists have their fair share of Hate Dom as well?
What else do they all have in common? They all leave 0 impact on me! "How was that song from ____?" "It was shit, shut up."
