It's a superpowerful kid trying to be as cool as possible. He's so obviously pushing it most of the time that it would be impossible to take him seriously if he weren't a major threat.
Watched the first part of that LP linked to earlier. Honestly, I'm... shocked at how good it seems. Not getting it, though; got other things planned for now. Maybe, when it goes in bargain bins, character packs included, but not now.
Jurassic Park is frightening in the dark All the dinosaurs are running wildHow many types of characters were there again? Atleast the game comes bundled with 3 different ones.
And I just checked, theres 8 elements total, so five extra toys are required to unlock everything.
Elements are: Fire, Water, Air, Earth, Life, Undead, Magic and Tech.
Funny how all of them have opposites there. Wonder if opposing elements will be a gameplay element...
And so far it seems that which character you use has no effect on the story. Notice how everyone called Spyro just "Skylander." Hell, apparently you could switch characters at any time, even during cutscenes, seeing how the Let's Play accidentally knocked the toy off during one.

Sonic hates SOPAOnly those 8.
And yes, the whole point of the game is to put emphasis on the position of Skylander instead of whatever monster you're using at the time. It also doesn't account for multiplayer, seeing as they never say Skylanders when addressing the players.
Long live Cinematech. FC:0259-0435-4987I thought the game had a co-op mode?
Anyhow, even as an obvious Gotta Buy Em All cash ploy, atleast they didn't make the game so that it requires specific characters to be used, just one of the 8 types.
Just one thing... Why can't Spyro, or anyone else for that matter, jump?!
Ok, I see it's made to be more of an action or hack n' slash type of game, but still, the lack of a jump button in a Spyro game is odd.
Well, more like a game with Spyro that everyone has lower expectations than it seemingly deserves. But still. Seems a bit like lazy level design.
I also know how hypocritical that sounds when I have played JRPG's that are not famed for letting the player climb and jump around at their leasure.

Sonic hates SOPAIt does, but it makes no difference to the story.
Long live Cinematech. FC:0259-0435-4987I see. Well, it was the sensible route to go with a game that lets you freely swap between Loads And Loads Of Characters at any point.
Hell, you could "cheat the system" by swapping characters whenever the one you're using is in low health.
Sonic hates SOPAYou can and do.
Long live Cinematech. FC:0259-0435-4987Wait... I just realised that for multiplayer to work, everyone needs their own portal. And I don't think I've seen those being said to be sold seperately.
And whats up with it needing batteries? It's connected to the console with an USB. Many electronics nowdays let you use the USB as a power outlet!
Sonic hates SOPANot everyone needs their own portal, dude. Multiplayer only requires 2 controllers, 2 character figures, and 1 portal.
And only the PS 3 and 3DS portals need batteries, according to what's being seen. Possibly Wii, too. Xbox doesn't.

Long live Cinematech. FC:0259-0435-4987The 3DS game has a jump button. It's more of a platformer than the others. Thus the one I'm most interested in, since I like platforming better than hacking and slashing.
But yeah. Swapping low health Skylanders is something you're supposed to do, like swapping low-health Pokemon.
The eight characters I'd probably get are... Spyro, Cynder, Camo, Sonic Boom, Drobot, that fire dragon, Prism Break, and I honestly have no idea who I like in Water.
"Proto-Indo-European makes the damnedest words related. It's great. It's the Kevin Bacon of etymology." ~MadrugadaMight I suggest Zap? Also the phoenix-dragon is Sunbeam.
Ignitor.

Long live Cinematech. FC:0259-0435-4987Heres a quick run through who you get with which version:
PS3/XB360/PC/Wii gets Spyro (Magic), Trigger Happy (Tech) and Gill Grunt (Water).
3DS gets Dark Spyro (Magic), Stealth Elf (Life) and Ignitor (Fire).
So buying both versions nets you 5 out of 8 elements, if you are that loaded with disposable income to have a 3DS, one of the home consoles and buying both versions of the game.
Oh, and not only does the 3DS one look way more platformy, apparently you can only use two different skylanders at once and need to choose them before starting a level.
Makes sense, considering trying to balance the portal and figure when going out and about wouldn't be very portable.
No idea if theres any limit for the home console versions in regards of character swapping.
Anyhow, the game looks something I'd want to try playing, but wouldn't be eager to buying. And hopefully for all who buy it, theres online multiplayer.
I'm also suspecting the people who get more into the game trading these figures with each other. The game never says it's a collectible card figure game, but it kind of is, isn't it?

Sonic hates SOPAActually it's Sunburn I believe.
I heard you don't even need to bring the portal and figures with you for the 3DS version, you can upload the data for the characters from the portal so you can use them whenever while on the go and then update the figures for use on other versions by putting them on the portal again.
Sensible.
As for Zap... I have enough dragons as it is on my theoretical dream team. :P What element is that four-armed yeti dude? He's pretty cool.
Man, I hope I get this library job.
"Proto-Indo-European makes the damnedest words related. It's great. It's the Kevin Bacon of etymology." ~MadrugadaMy problem is that I want both Whirlwind and Sonic Boom...
It is kind of a shame Spyro had to be involved at all, though. I liked Spyro for the atmosphere and gameplay, but after the original trilogy, he seems so far divorced from how the games played to everything featuring him being simply a game with Spyro in it, rather than an actual Spyro game.
It is a shame how the Skylanders themselves are just different movesets and stats, though. There bios were actually pretty interesting, so I would've loved to see their individual characters incorporated into the game itself.
I think they might do something on the website? Not sure off the top of my head.
I like Warnado (the air turtle) too... Hmmm...
"Proto-Indo-European makes the damnedest words related. It's great. It's the Kevin Bacon of etymology." ~MadrugadaI dunno, it seems like from what I've seen it's a Spyro game in spirit way more than Legends of Spyro was.
So apparently Wham-Shell was the King of some deep sea kingdom that got wiped out by Trolls looking for oil and after kicking their asses apparently ended up joining the Skylanders instead of attempting to rebuild (possibly because he couldn't). Since I kind of fail as a troper, do you think he falls under King Incognito or not? Does it count if no longer has a Kingdom to rule?

@Freezair: You can never have too many dragons. Never.
This is true, but I'm also not super-into Zap's design. I think Camo looks badass. Holy fruit bombs, does he ever. And most of the other dragons are pretty cool, save that snub-nosed thing... but Zap doesn't really excite me, sadly.
"Proto-Indo-European makes the damnedest words related. It's great. It's the Kevin Bacon of etymology." ~MadrugadaMy girlfriend loves Zap. There's also his ability to set his own slime trails on electric, then create endless electric slime trails.

Oh, hey! That's the one I've been watching.
