Is his portrayal offensive though?
Also are Dil and Kimi practically erased?
There's only one real time Dr. Lipschitz is portrayed in the show; he's (for some reason I forget) taking care of Tommy and Chucky, but they're afraid of him, and Lipschitz realizes he's in over his head and is not suitable as a child-rearing expert. However, Tommy and Chucky then start being nice to Lipschitz and he rediscovers his love of child-rearing expertise. I don't remember any harmfulness in his portrayal, but I don't know if the show wants to acknowledge Self-Help individuals; after Dil's birth Lipschitz basically disappears from the show entirely.
His actual portrayal isn't really offensive, but well, listen to the name. Dr LIP SHITZ. It really depends what gags they can still get under the radar these days.
If he were to appear in this series, he could probably be called something like Dr. Lipbalm or something. Yeah, it's corny, but I can't think of anything else.
I'm thinking Dr. Lipspitz might be a better alternative name.
Oh yeah I forgot how the name sounded like when pronounced lol. Also didn't realize it was a dig at Klasky being obsessed with stuff similar to him.
Here's the trailer for new Rugrats.

Can't watch the video where I live. BOOOOO!
Trailer for those of us who have it blocked.
Well, it's Rugrats alright, even with the going back to the PS 2 era.
Wake me up at your own risk.why do they look... glossy?
Paramount Plus has uploaded the reboot's intro, which is a generally familiar remake of the original's visual beats and music:

Optimism is a duty.Jameela Jamil is guest starring in an episode.
Here's a 14 minute interview featuring the OG voice actresses collectively recounting their experiences working on the reboot:
Here's an interview about the process when making the show as well as some of the changes.

Apparently Betty DeVille is gonna be a lesbian in this reboot, presumably because she's "butch". This also probably means that Howard is gonna go the way of Chuck Cunningham.
The blatant tokenism trend with these sort of characters in modern animation is really obnoxious.
"I like girls, but now, it's about justice."It makes sense, Howard was easily the least important adult character on the show. I cannot for the life of me remember a single thing he did.
It really doesn't.
Just because a character is not as "memorable" as the rest doesn't mean he's expendable or should be scrapped. Especially not if he's a collateral victim of tokenized diversity.
There's also the issue of it just blatantly playing into stereotypes. In the original show Betty was tomboyish, athletic, and the breadwinner of the house. This means that, of course, she must be a lesbian.
If you really, truly want to include a lesbian character (and it is always a lesbian, we never see a gay man in these things), make a new one. Don't screw with the characterization of a previous one, and at the very least try to give the new one more of a reason to exist than "she's lesbian".
It's pretty much just yet another misfire in this reboot, but it's annoying.
"I like girls, but now, it's about justice."And yet,it's lesbian representation, calling tokenized diversity this early is a presumptuous

Now sure where they got it, but someone screenshot a comment from Allan Neuwrith (a writer for the show) about Howard possibly showing up.
It is tokenism if there's nothing more to it than "she's lesbian". It's particularly weird if we get a previously non-lesbian character being turned into one. What do we call this? Sexuality Lift?
It's something that a lot of modern animated series' pull. They introduce lesbian (and again, almost always and only lesbian) characters and dangle their sexuality in front of the audience basically for marketing, proving how "representative" and "socially conscious" they are. In extreme cases these characters have nothing to them beyond their sexuality. I'm not saying that this will be the case with Betty, but Flanderization into just a Butch Lesbian is very much a possibility.
"I like girls, but now, it's about justice."I think the term is called Adaptational Sexuality , where a character who was of a certain sexual orientation in one project has a different sexual orientation in another.

I wonder what they're gonna do with Dr. Lipschitz in the reboot? I'm guessing they'll either rename him or exclude him from the reboot completely.
