Thankful to get away from the memories of what a certain Honchkrow and Unfezant did to a certain Salamence that he cared deeply about, Lake steers the Espeon towards his memories of his battle against Red at the Gold Conference, and how he had easily triumphed over his Charizard.
That was a fun day.

Lake was surprised, and a little annoyed, that his battle with Red hadn't seemed to impress the Espeon. But there was no point being angry about it. Those several hundred thousand hits on Youtube (just behind the one with the two Sandshrew) spoke for themselves anyway.
Now he felt the Espeon trying to decide between two more memories. One that hinted at something rather threatening (Lake had a pretty idea what it could be), and one that was...more novel.
Lake decides to try and nudge the Espeon in the direction of the more unorthodox one, not intent on reliving certain battles...

Having his mind combed through for memories was an...interesting feeling. If Lake were to describe it, it would be like having another presence inside his mind, as if there were two Pokémon sharing his body.
As the Espeon searched, he felt one of his more recent memories being pulled up. Although "recent" in this case, was about a year ago. In it, he was describing to the group on how he wouldn't kill another Pokémon or person unless he or she really deserved it, out of fear of getting Luke sent to prison. Or worse.
Lake: <Well, where I come from...it's not considered a good thing to kill in anything but self defense.>
Then, perhaps as a part of the mind link, he feels the Espeon become confused as he reads his experiences of the human race. Unsure of what to say (think?) about them to him, he keeps quiet for the time being.
