Jeff has picked the towel. Silent jolts down some notes in a paper.

"Well, they basically live in families in burrows. But for what concerns you in this test, the kits are gathered by the adults in troops once a day and brought around for different activities like sparring, noming grass and [exploring]. That's where you, and [one] of your mons, chime in. There is a family somewhere in this colony whose kit has collected a towel just like that one."

"I see, so I have to find which family has the other towel, right?"

Silent nods to Jeff.

"You have to do precisely that, given some constraints. The most important one is that you and your towel must not interact with the Nidos directly - you can not alter their environment. The second is that the family must not discover you are after the towel." Raises a hand. "Just identify the family though, don't try to retrieve the towel..."

"Now, there is one little issue that you'll have to work around..." — Silent starts checking his Pokéballs.

"I noticed you said only one of my mons, I presume that's said issue?"

"It's related to it..." Silent produces Maekrite's Moon Ball and shows it to Jeff. "This colony is already used to human presence so it might be hard for you to go unnoticed. So you'll need another standard for measuring your involvement. See, for tomorrow you'll have a Nidorino guiding you around where you can and can not go. That means that you and your chosen mon must plan in advance to acquire information separately."

From some of the bushes three Nidorinos come in and sit besides the group, one sporting the yellow markings around his poison points. The three rawr~ a hello to the duo.

"Oh Okay. Hello."

With Hunter

-Responding to Hunter-

<??? #2: "... You can already sense it, can't you?">

-To Marvin-

<⟃⟐⟄: "Er... It might be better if we backed off from each other for a while to be safe... ❧ can get a little touchy when talking about... Well, you and your human probably gathered...">

-And heads off a short distance with the other Riolu, who is looking noticeably downcast-

With the Hunting Party

-The four Lucario assume battle stances, one forming a staff seemingly consisting of blue light, another accumulating a blue glow around its paws-

<Hunter #2: "Alright, wait for-">

-It is at this point that the Lairon gets spooked and begins to hastily eye its surroundings-

<Hunter #3: "Crud, it sensed us! Come on, go, go, go!">

-And the four attempt their attacks on the Lairon-

-Only for it to dodge the blows other than the Aura Sphere, which grazes as it falls back and attempts to flee-

<Hunter #4: "Argh! Quick, after it!">

Artemia: -Uses Grass Knot to try to trip the Lairon up-

-Is taking some time to relax somewhere, having lost track of the group somewhere around Snowpoint-

Maekrite: <Good, now that that's settled, the two of them will be your guides tomorrow, Jeff... they'll tell you (and enforce) where you can and can not go.> — points to the Pokéball with horn — <Your chosen mon on the other hand will have far less restrictions.>

"Yeah, so I suggest you choose well. Then we'll have to take your other mons from you for the duration of the test."

Maekrite: <Speaking about duration, I've been separated from my kit long enough...> — climbs up to Silent's lap for petting.

With the Hunting Party

-Artemia's Grass Knot trips up the Lairon-

<Hunter #4: "Gotcha, you slippery little-">

<Hunter #1: "Hey! No taunting your kills!">

-And the Aura Sphere caster uses another one to drop the party's quarry to the ground as the others descend upon it with blows-

Ouch, that part's always nasty.

"Hi Akela, Tomos, and Maekrite. Hmm, who would be best. I think Swellow would be able to get good aerial surveillance…"

He smiles at Maekrite and Silent.

With the Hunters

-The sounds of blows against the Lairon's armored hide, and of segments cracking can be heard... And then the group relents-

-Looking at the still Lairon, with blood starting to puddle on the ground-

<Gene: "Geez. I sure don't miss that from the wild...">

<Hunter #1: "It's done, it's not getting up.">

<Hunter #3: "Still... Better make sure the thing's out of its misery...">

-And makes a swift motion across the Lairon's neck with one of its wrist spikes, which causes the blood on the ground to pool faster near it-

<Hunter #2: "Who was the one who tripped it up earlier?">

-Pointing to Artemia-

Er, she did.

Artemia: -Hiding behind my back since the Lucario started their beatdown- <Is it over yet?>

Yes...

Maekrite and the Nidos smile / rawr back, then turn their attention to the troop of kits playing in the clearing.

Silent stands up and turns to Jeff.

"You should camp somewhere. I'll be camping past the river to the south so as to not interfere. Now, for general ideas, Nidos love testing exploring. They just can't have enough from it. They also like to collect some objects for their burrows, sometimes the males fight over objects they have collected and gift them to the females."

With the Hunting Party

-To Artemia-

<Hunter #3: "Er... Thanks, I guess... Even though I guess it's technically your human we should thank for spotting that opening faster.">

-Grabbing the Lairon's forelegs-

<Hunter #2: "Guess we should get this thing cleaned up a bit before we return... There a stream nearby?">

<Hunter #1: "We crossed one coming over here. Here, let me give you a paw with that...">

-And goes to aid Hunter #2-

<Gene: So I take it we can head back then?">

<Hunter #3: "Well gee, you can be a little helpful, you know! But if blood makes you squeamish, go ahead.">

<Gene: "Well... I've been told that many hands makes less work...">

-And goes to aid the transport of the carcass-

"Okay, so they love exploration and found objects, and I should find a campsite somewhere that isn't a Schrodinger's Location"

Oi, strikeout guy, I told ya to hit the road.

Fine, fine, I'll leave

Okay, now Jeff…is already camped somewhere. I missed where exactly this is because of that small argument with the strikeout guy and so, looks like he's at a Schrodinger's Location. Nice going strikeout guy, you ended up causing what you didn't want to happen -_-.

-Assists with the carcass carrying-

I wonder what they'll have us do next.

Route 226-ish - A Short Time Later With the Rest of the Pack

-The Pack's members are busily feeding on the Lairon's carcass-

<❣❄❣: "Hmm... I will admit... I was not expecting you and your compatriots or the one who stayed behind to watch over the pups to be remotely helpful as you proved to be...

... I suppose that I owe you a word of thanks on behalf of all of us...">
