Gabe: -investigates the holes further and gulps- Someone definitely made these vents... But why?

-He takes out his phone, takes a picture of the two holes for the sake of making a record, then turns the flash LED on to try to peer inside them. Just for good measure, he sniffs slightly to see if they're also a source of the smell.-

-Shizuo is hit hard by the Force Palm, but remains standing. He uses one hand to deliver a massively powerful Auric Brick Break to the Meinshao's nose, then the other hand to send out Mikey-

Mikey: <Cowabunga dudes!>

-Sends out a massive wave at the mons after the group-

-The holes are lined with dust, and inhaling deeply from them does not produce the sickenly sweet smell that permeates the area.-

Mako: <Well, if you suffocate and die here, at least I'll be released in my species' natural habitat.>

Mason: Ack... uh, let's— let's see if there's any other holes on the walls or anything. I can't tell how deep these are, they could be bolt holes or tubes and I don't want to jump to either conclusion yet.-

-He opens his phone's notepad app, and makes a list of the things the group's observed-

-PEFE!Every, using a laptop she stole from the intern, is currently contacting home-

PEFE!Every: Okay, what did you find? I'm really hoping to be able to synthesize this stuff.

Chime the Chingling: <Well, we ran it under an electron microscope. Unfortunately, there was some sort of energy field that was disrupting my ability to see the structure.>

PEFE!Every: What kind of energy are we talking here?

Chime: <Well, energy is a little misleading. I would say "Aura", but only in the sense that a Dragon Pulse or a Heal Pulse is also aura. It's a fairly complicated wavelength. The closest analogy might be Hidden Power?>

PEFE!Every: Cool. Could you or another mon replicate it?

Chime: <Yeah. What might interest you more, though, is that we figured out how to cancel it.>

PEFE!Every: Excellent. So what's the venom look like?

Chime: <Well, that's the problem. As soon as we suppressed the field, almost every bond in the venom changed in conformation.>

PEFE!Every: Consequence of exposure to the cancellation?

Chime: <No, I tried the cancellation on Tentacool toxin and nothing happened. Could you let me finish?>

PEFE!Every: Sorry. Go on.

Chime: <I tried the test again with a little more of the venom, but this time I had Scorch look through the microscope, and then I extracted the imprint of it from his short-term memory.>

PEFE!Every: Ooh! What did you see?

Chime: <Well, I'm not altogether sure. It looks as though the bonds within the venom are mostly nonviable. Like, oxygen making non-dative triple bonds, nitrogen forming a quadruple bond.>

PEFE!Every: That isn't possible. Are you sure Scorch remembered it right?

Chime: <Positive. If you ask me, what's going on is that the venom. by some aspect of its nature, projects that field, and the field stabilizes all the weird bonds in the venom.>

PEFE!Every: Well, that would tally with Nihilego being from another universe. It's clearly carrying some influence of that universe with itself, and the venom is the same way.

Chime: <Wow. That's, uh, ominous.>

PEFE!Every: Exciting though. I've never gotten to study anything from another world before.

Chime: <Fair enough.>

PEFE!Every: Alright, can you send me the data for the stabilizing field and how to replicate it? And the structure of the venom?

Chime: <I'll get you the wavelength data. The venom will take a few days; I pretty much need to scribe it down by hand.>

PEFE!Every: It's a lower priority, admittedly. I just really like having the toxins on file.

Chime: <That's extremely weird.>

PEFE!Every: ...You're extremely weird.

Chime: <I'm hanging up now.>

Mason: Oh, uh... honestly, I don't actually know much about them. I've just heard whispers and rumors about their activity and goals and whatnot. And that one of them might be someone I used to know a long time ago.

-Gudrunn is around, fiddling with Kan'al's ring, when she is approached by Robin-

Robin: Hey, Gudrunn? I need to talk to you about some things.

Gudrunn: Yes?

-Robin stops and sighs, then gives Gudrunn a hard look-

Robin: I saw your look when those purple sparks happened and... we lost Locke and the others. You know what The Fanatic is.

Gudrunn: ...You know that name?

Robin: Yes. It's what ensnared me and the rest of Team Umbra in the first place. And I need to know what you know about it.

Gudrunn: It's... It's a Glitch... Not like anything inside our reality... It wants to reshape the multiverse to suit its whims, even if it means destroying individual universes in the process...

I managed to communicate with it long ago... It was willing to give me power and make me transcend human or Pokemon-kind if I in turn used that power to create the seeds of a Glitch much like itself, as well as forge a bond between it and this universe... Mako: <Never mind that trying to take on someone who kidnaps deities with mystery sleep gas is probably a surefire way to get yourself killed.>
