You know how other regions have Gyms? Well, instead of Gyms they have the Island Challenge, which was originally just for children until Alola got a proper League not too long ago. Though I have noticed these suspicious plots on my travels which would suggest they might be making proper Gyms soon enough.
-Pulling out my Trial Amulet-
After talking to the island's Kahuna to get one of these, you travel the island passing the tests of the Trial Captains, which at the end consists of you battling a Totem Pokémon. Complete all the trials on an island and fight its Kahuna in your Grand Trial, and you'll get a stamp on your Trainer Passport detailing your victory. Also, normally that's when you get your Z-Ring, but you already have one of those. Once you've defeated every Kahuna, the way to Mt. Lanakila will be open to you.
Eating a Vanilluxe will give you frostbite.

Silas watched in awe and horror as it went on above, somehow they had ended up in a universe where humans and pokemon were one and the same, and they were waging war.
The sound of the doors to the labs open soon caught his attention, that and the sound of the many boots stepping in.
Silas looked over and saw various Pokemon in what appeared to be armor, wielding large guns of some sort, considering the world they were in, Silas had to presume blasters.
With them was a older looking Alakazam in a decked out outfit, several stars on the shoulders, and medals on the chest. "Oh shit..."
"Who are you people? Why have you come here? Spies? Saboteurs?" General Drakos soon saw Lyra and the Starraptor, "Exhibitionists?! Have you no shame? Or understanding of laboratory safety?!"
"Okay calm down we didn-" Silas began.
"Silence! We don't have time for this, who are you people and why are you here?" The General demanded.
Sack: <We came in from some space-time thing and we're kinda surprised too, honestly...>

Nack is facing off against the Gumshoos, dodging its attacks but doing minimal damage back.
Zachary: "C'mon Nack, just keep up the pace and you'll wear him down in no time!"
Nack: <Grahh, I'm getting tired of this...>
Nack keeps attacking and manages to make the Totem Gumshoos stumble back and fall over, Nack celebrates, but the Gumshoos gets back up and roars into the sky, causing a Yungoos to dash out of the cave and help the Totem Gumshoos.
Nack: <Ohhh nooo...>
The Yungoos jumps on top of Nack, distracting him long enough for Totem Gumshoos to strike with Bite and cause Nack to faint, Zachary recalls him into his PokéBall and worriedly wonders what to do.
Zachary: "Um...Hamilton, you're up next..."
Hamilton: <WHY ME!?>
Zachary: "Because you're our only Pokémon left! Uhh...H-Hey! Do that thing you did back there! It might help!"
Hamilton gulps and jumps out from behind Zachary before using Disarming Voice, the terrifying roars damage both Totem Gumshoos and the Yungoos, even causing the Yungoos to faint, but Totem Gumshoos stands strong and uses Scary Face, intimidating Hamilton and causing his Speed to drop.
Zachary: "Don't let him get to you, Hamilton!"
Hamilton: <E-Eeek! H-He's so tall and so scary, just look at those teeth!>
Hamilton tries to use Water Gun but Totem Gumshoos attacks first, biting Hamilton and throwing him against a wall.
Zachary: "This is getting bad...REALLY bad..."

Jenna's look of confusion gradually shifts into a gigantic smile, while Rodeal shakes her head.
Jenna: "So it's not classified private or classified supervillain organization...It's classified...SUPERHERO ORGANIZATION!"
Jenna suddenly dashes inside the Garden, the two guards try to stop her but they're accidentally knocked down by her as she starts jumping up and down.
Jenna: "So do you go on like crazy missions to stop like a super secret terrorist organization that repurposes humans into becoming robotic cyborg monsters lead by a cyclops alien from another dimension? Or like against an alien warlord that plans to use a glove with gems that contain infinite power about the universe's creation that he'll use to take over the entire multiverse in order to gain Death's heart? Ooh! Or, or—"
Rodeal: <Jen...Calm...DOWN!>
Rodeal shocks Jenna, paralyzing her.
Verdant Cavern (Totem's Den), Melemele Island, Past
Hamilton, injured, is still fighting against the Totem Gumshoos, however, the Totem Pokémon, while he has taken some damage from both Nack and Hamilton and is also injured, is still standing strong, though he still calls for help from another Yungoos.
Hamilton: <I...you...Grr...agh...>
The Yungoos tackles the injured Popplio, knocking it to the ground, and Totem Gumshoos steps forwards, about to finish him off.
Totem Gumshoos: <PATHETIC. I SHALL FINISH THIS PETTY BRAWL THIS INSTANT.>
Zachary runs forward and grabs Hamilton, pulling him away right as the Totem Gumshoos is about to Bite him.
Zachary: "N-No! I-I...WON'T LET YOU!"
From the depths of the cave, a swarm of Yungoos is watching the battle and laughing, and in the depths of the cave, a mysterious Pokémon held down by the Yungoos hears Zachary's scream and regains enough strenght to fight back and release himself.
Totem Gumshoos: <DO NOT DELAY THE INEVITABLE. YOU HAVE LOST.>
The Totem Gumshoos gets ready to lunge forward at Zachary until he hears a strange slashing sound, causing him to turn around and see a Farfetch'd with scars across his face standing next to the fainted Yungoos he called, behind him lie more fainted Yungoos.
TOTEM GUMSHOOS: <DO NOT INTERFERE, YOU DO NOT HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH THIS.>
???: <...I'm....sure I do.>
Zachary's face lights up as he gets to see the Farfetch'd clearly, recognizing him.
Zachary: "SMOKE! I found you!"
Hamilton: <...W....Who?>
Totem Gumshoos: <ANOTHER POKÉMON FROM THIS TRAINER? HE SHALL FALL LIKE THE REST THEN.>
''The Totem Gumshoos moves towards Smoke, turning his back towards Zachary and Hamilton"
Hamilton: <...G....Gah! B-Boss! Hold me up in the air in front of you! N-Now!"
Zachary does as told and Hamilton shoots a powerful Water Gun at the Totem Gumshoos' back, hitting him and causing him to recoil in pain, giving Smoke the chance to finish the Totem Gumshoos off with Leaf Blade, causing him to lose his aura, shrink back to normal size, and faint.
Totem Gumshoos: <G...GAH...I WAS WRONG. YOU ENDED UP BEING STRONGER THAN ME. YOU ARE FREE TO PASS, CHALLENGER, FOR YOU HAVE PROVEN YOUR WORTH.>
The injured Gumshoos is taken away by the horde of Yungoos, who briefly hiss at Zachary and his Party before dashing off into the depths of the cave, allowing the gang to return to the entrance to the cave safely...
Verdant Cavern (Entrance), Melemele Island, Past
...And meet up with Ilima once more.
Ilima: "Hm? Did you get the Normalium-Z?"
Zachary stretches out his arm and opens his hand, revealing the Normalium-Z in his palm to Ilima.
Ilima: "Very well then, you have beaten Ilima's Trial! As a reward, you get to keep the Normalium-Z and I'll teach you how to do the Normal-Type Z-Move, Breakneck Blitz!"
Zachary: "What in the world's a Z-Move?"
Ilima: "Okay come here and I'll teach you, better get ready to pose though."
Zachary: "Okay...Wait, posing? Wha...?"
Ilima starts teaching Zachary about Z-Moves and starts trying to teach him how to do the Z-Dance for Breakneck Blitz, though it takes many attempts for him to get it right. While Zachary and Ilima are practicing, Hamilton looks at Smoke and asks him something.
Hamilton: <...So uh...Who...are you? Please don't hurt me!>
Smoke: <Zachary's Pokémon...I don't hurt innocents.>
Hamilton: <Wait, Zachary's Pokémon? I thought the only Pokémon he had before me was Nack and that was it.>
Smoke: <He has more...They're lost...Probably in Alola too...>
Hamilton: <Wow, you're mysterious but also kinda cool!>
