Orllof: So it is an interrogation. I'll tell you what I told her - I left that before I even heard of Illusion. I was just important enough to be able to decide, but not important enough to kill rather than bribe. After Illusion fell through, I was cut off from that stipend as well.

-He motions to the dusty cabin around him.-

Orllof: Obviously.

-He goes back to his meal. Mostly root vegetables simmering in water.-

Orllof: But you never struck me as the kind of man that let's go of the Persian's tail before it either keels over or submits.

Orllof's Cabin

(Wilhelm chuckles again as he removes his thick layers of fur, mounting them on whatever stand or chair back is available.)

Wilhelm: Oh, Claude, you wound me! Like I said, this need not be an interrogation unless you make it one. I would much prefer a little bit of friendly conversation.

(He takes a seat across the table from Orllof, though not before fishing three Pokeballs, all glistening with frost, out of the pockets of his silver parka and inserting them in the pockets of his tuxedo.)

Wilhelm: You must understand, I was told only the vaguest details. What I've heard, however, was more than enough to pique my interest.

-Lightning notices how Vincent flinches, and is reminded of Mistral for some reason.-

Jessica: <Oh, I'm Jessica, this is Lightning, and the human is Ace.>

-Ace laughs a little at Belinda's comment.-

Ace: "No, no. They're actually on his team."

-He shades his eyes and points out towards the water where the figure of Shaun can be seen, along with an Empoleon, Ampharos, and Swampert.-

Ace: <Except for the Ampharos and Swampert, they all belong to him."

-Mentally, he adds...-

Orllof: Fine then. I've been frozen enough, so I'll get to it. The School is an organization that has been around for... honestly, I don't know. It may have been formed around the time people discovered DNA, it may have been formed when people discovered husbandry, I honestly don't know, and they won't tell. They spin a yarn that's pretty much the opposite of Illusion - make every stratus of society biologically and psychologically perfect for their jobs.

-He drops another root vegetable - at least, it's gnarled and colored like one, it may be a tree root for all you know - into the pot.-

Orllof: They have influence in quite a few high-level government positions. You know about the one Kalosian Elite Four member who was a part of Flare? Think that, only without the wardrobe similarities. They got that way... mostly because of blackmail, partially because of honest belief, and just a few cases of outright mind control that then turned into blackmail. I was one of the agents who dealt with the churches - not just the Constructs, as it turned out, but all sorts.

-He gets tired of standing and sits in the seat opposite of Wilhelm.-

Orllof: They, for the most part, are outside the realm of most criminal organizations. They ignored Rocket, Galactic, even the new one my old contacts whisper about that supposedly operates out of a yacht. Probably because they don't see themselves as criminals. But what they do, is... something else.

-He takes a moment to draw in breath.-

Orllof: What do you know of psychic powers? What can you say is your most specific piece of knowledge on the matter?

Orllof's Cabin

(A now thoroughly intrigued Wilhelm raises his gauntleted hand. As the circles crossing the gauntlet glow purple, random items of cutlery lazily rise from their allotted locations and hover in the air.)

Wilhelm: Personal experience. Why?

Klaus: <My name is Klaus. It's a pleasure to meet you.>

(He turns to the shivering Umbreon.)

Klaus: <And this is Vincent. I wouldn't worry about his behaviour, it's completely typical for him.>

Vincent: <...>

(Belinda glances over at Shaun.)

Belinda: Hmm. Pretty sure that's not someone I know.

To my understanding we'd still have at least a century before even beginning to do that stuff, and they've been doing it for at least ten years now, assuming that none of these children were artificially aged. As you said, this is probably more in your realm than in standard science-

This "School" is basically capable of creating life, with the template as the blueprints. This sort of genetic engineering not only requires knowledge of the human genome, but of the proteome as well. As I'm sure you realize, this means that they will stop at nothing to get their "investment" back. And it's not just them we need to worry about.

-Nalani is sitting on a bench as she brushes the hair of her Komala, Luluhi, as she dozes in Nalani's lap as some of Ren's team lounges around as does Snow, Sheena, Naoto, and the rest of Nalani's team.-

-Kitsune and Rio perk up as Ren walks into the garden.-

Kitsune: <So, how it go?>

Ren: Very well.

Rio: <And where is the Mimikyu?>

Ren: I'll explain once everyone is gathered up.

-Nalani looks up from Luluhi, who snores softly before rolling off Nalani's lap and allowing her trainer to stand.-

Nalani: Well from what Rio said, and the fact that you appear to be in one piece, I can assume you handled our pest problem?

Ren: If you can call it that.

-to Kahiko and Rio- Would you mind gathering everyone over here. I have to make an introduction.

-The two mon and Nalani glance at Ren for a moment.-

Nalani: You two go ahead.

-The Oricorio and the Lucario head off to round up the others.-

Nalani: What exactly did you promise that Mimikyu?

Ren: That would be telling, Nalani. You should know my reputation better than that.

Nalani: That was before I knew your reputation included being on The Alpha's speed dial.

Ren: -shrugs- Point taken.

-Ren turns as the crowd of Pokemon gather along and on the walk.-

Ren: Ah, good, everyone's here.

-addressing everyone present- As Rio told you, there was a Mimikyu in the attic. Apparently she had moved in there in hopes of using as home. Now. I'm going to let her speak for herself.

-Ren gives a stern look at Snow, Dirus, and Monochrome.-

Ren: So no one attack her and do try to make her feel welcome.

-Ren takes a Friend Ball. Nalani tilts her head.-

Ren: Menehune, time to say hello.

-Ren releases the Mimikyu now wearing her new Mareep cover.-

Mimikyu Menehune: -nervous as all eyes are on her- <Um... Umm...>

-She tries to back up and hide behind Ren's leg. Ren, however, bends over gently pushes her back forward.-

Ren: Remember, no one is going to hurt you, but you need to do what we agreed on too.

Menehune: -fidgeting- <Um... Okay.>

-Menehune takes a couple of small steps forward.-

Menehune: <Ummm... Miss Nalani and her team... I'm sorry I tried making my nest in the attic. I thought you wouldn't mind since no one actually seemed to live or go in there. Ren told me that the stuff in there was important... And... I'm really sorry for messing up Ren's father's Z-crystals... I... I...>

-Menehune furtively glances at Ren.-

Ren: Go on. You're doing fine.

Menehune: <I didn't know how to make it better... Until Ren said if I apologized properly to everyone, he would let me join his team so I could help him earn during his trials here on the island. So I'm sorry, everyone. Please don't be too mad at me...>

-As Menehune finishes her apology, she shuts her eyes and braces for the angry shouts, shivering in place.-

Ren: -squatting behind Menehune- And there you have it. Menehune wanted a safe place to live, and she's sorry for the disturbances she caused and is willing to make up for it.

-Nalani looks at the quivering Ghost and Fairy-type in front of her then to Kahiko, who was translating for Nalani.-

Kahiko: ~She's better than some other pest we've had around her. I'm cool with her if you are.~

Nalani: -nodding- Well after that, I can't deny her apology.

-to Menehune- Menehune, thank you for apologizing. I accept it and I hope you'll support Renard to the best of your ability.

-Menehune freezes in place on opens one eye.-

Menehune: <Huh?>

Kitsune: -bending her head down to eye level with Menehune- <It means "welcome to the team".>

Ren: -agreeing with Kitsune- Indeed it does.

-to Nalani- Nalani, you mind making dinner for us tonight? I'll prep the food for everyone else, since I need practice for making food for a Mimikyu now.

Nalani: Of course, Renard. Kahiko. Heenalu. Would you two mind helping me in the Kitchen?

-Kahiko nods and hums as she heads for the house as an Alolan Raichu floats up from her perch on Akamu's back.-

Heenalu: ~I want something sweet for dessert!~

-Menehune is blankly standing in place. She was NOT used to this.-

Ren: -gently picking up Menehune- Take your time, Menehune. Things are different now. You're part of my team, so be happy all you want.

-Menehune leaps to Ren's Shoulder as turns and heads towards the hose to prep dinner for the pokemon.-

Ren: -in thought- Yes be happy now, because after Hi-no-Kagutsuchi, I'm not sure how safe we are here. I think I need to text the others tomorrow. It's time we took the fight to them...

Orllof: Because they have broken it down to it's base genetic markers. They do not merely experiment on psychics, they do not snatch them from cradles or steal them from orphanages. That is far too easy to contaminate.

-He taps a finger against the table and slowly raises it.-

Orllof: They build them. From the ground. Up.

-The leans back.-

Orllof: They construct the subjects from templates, using only the greatest potential, with a tweak here, a suboptimal gene there, all to try and find the key to creating the ultimate administrator, politician, and leader. Someone who can inspire loyalty, confidence, intelligence, and wisdom, all in a single person - and enforce his will upon the physical plane personally should the need arise.

-He taps his temple.-

Orllof: There are subjects who can manipulate terror as a weapon. There are subjects who specialize in taking direct control of the synapses of the brain - mind control. There are even some that can mimic the powers of Pokemon. Power Split and the various power manipulation moves come to mind. And if the group of subjects don't provide useful data? Liquidation.

-He draws a thumb across his neck.-

Deziree: Hoo boy... Look, this kind of tech isn't my personal specialty - I put titanium and glass together, not guanine and adenine. But I can try and get my team on the matter, and-

Mobius: <I volunteer.>

-Deziree jumps, and turns slowly.-

Deziree: ... Mobius?

Mobius: <I volunteer for this duty. I will find where the School found this information, and I will do my best to protect Ludmilla and whatever children we find.>

-Deziree is unnerved more than she would like to admit at Mobius's tone.-

Deziree: I... okay. Why?

Mobius: <This is personal for me.>

Deziree: ... Okay.

-She takes a moment to recompose herself.-

Deziree: Tagg, I hate to say this, but we need to be careful with who we tell about the School. We can't have it getting to... oh god, anyone who was related to Galactic, or Plasma, or C...

-She can't bring herself to say it, but there's only one team that starts with the letter C.-

(Wilhelm's facial expression combines a slight twinge of revulsion with a deep fascination.)

Wilhelm: ...well. You certainly can't fault these School fellows for lacking ambition.

Belinda: Oh I know aren't they just adorable?~

(Klaus flicks his twin tails happily, while Vincent shrinks back, growing increasingly wary of all this unwanted attention.)

It's not just them who'd want a piece of top percentage psychic genetic material, there's also those freaks who think grafting Auric body parts to themselves will give them powers. Which is total garbage, of course, but it doesn't stop them.

-Sighs-

And then they might try to skim genetic material off of poor Vierr if they ever learn about him, so I definitely agree that the less folks who know about the school, the better.
