-After finishing preparations, Kaito teleports to in front of Professor Birch's Lab. Surprisingly, the professor is already outside to greet him.-

Birch: Oh, Kaito! Just in time, Scott and the others were waiting for you!

-Kaito blinks-

Kaito: ...Others?

Birch: Yeah, a few of the other Brains wanted to tag along to watch your test. They're right out back. Don't want to keep them waiting!

Kaito: Er, right, yeah. Nice seeing you again, professor.

Birch: Same. Good luck!

-Kaito nods and walks around the lab, and sees Scott waiting, leaning against the side of a red convertible car with the Battle Frontier logo on the hood. Standing nearby are Spenser, Anabel, and Brandon.-

Kaito: Oh, hey. I wasn't expecting you three to show up.

Spenser: Oh, come now, you didn't think I'd miss my apprentice's final exam, did you?

Brandon: Neither was I, after you beat me at the peak of the Pyramid.

Anabel: Same here. Plus, I have a bit of a favor to ask you afterwards, but in the meantime, we're rooting for you!

Kaito: Oh, wow, thanks, um… well, we might as well get this show on the road, then, right? Literally, it looks like.

Scott: Yep. We'll keep going slow enough that our Pokemon can keep up, but we're not stopping unless we have to. I won't be giving any commands except for my Pokemon to keep following us while it fights, but if you feel like issuing a move for yours, feel free.

Kaito: All right, then. Let's do this then.

-Scott grins-

Scott: Great. You get shotgun, kid.

The Final Test

-Ria glances over to see Scott's car starting to move already.-

Ria: <Uh— hold on!>

Jynx: <Part of the rules, sweetie, you gotta keep up!>

-The Jynx tosses a Shadow Ball at Ria's face before scurrying toward the moving car. Ria is taken aback a bit, but shakes it off and Dragon Dances, rushing forward after her opponent. She Crunches down on the Jynx's arm as she runs past, swinging and tossing her forward. The Jynx stumbles and rights herself, just in time to focus a Psychic on Ria. It barely deters her, as she breaks the Jynx's focus before she can do any major damage by Crunching and throwing her again.-

Ria: <First of all, I know the rules already.>

-The Jynx regains her footing again, but barely has time to smack Ria with another Shadow Ball as she approaches.-

Ria: <Second, even if I didn't know the rules already, don't patronize me.>

-She Bites down on the Jynx, making her flinch.-

Ria: <Especially by calling my "sweetie".>

-She Aqua Tails the Jynx, knocking her back on the path, and then follows the car into Oldale Town.-

Jynx: <Oof… I thought you were supposed to be feeble…>

-She gets back up and runs through the Oldale gates as well. Ria whips around with surprising dexterity and decks the Jynx in the face with a Dynamic Punch, sending her sprawling back-

Ria: <Maybe once upon a time, but not anymore.>

-The Jynx attempts to get back up again, but ultimately collapses.-

Anabel: Taking on Entei looks like it was a huge confidence booster for Ria, huh?

Spenser: Entei and Suicune.

Kaito: She took Suicune on all on her own, no less. She's grown a lot from her early self.

-The Lilligant looks around, takes in her surroundings, sees Ria and the car moving in the direction of Route 103.-

Lilligant: <Hm. Let's deal with this quickly.>

-She spins and tosses an orb of light into the sky-

-With increased agility due to the sunlight, the Lilligant quickly catches up to the others. Ria swings with an Ice Punch, but the Lilligant dances out of the way, quickly going into a Quiver Dance. Ria pursues her and manages to land her second Ice Punch, dealing a surprisingly significant amount of damage to the Lilligant, but leaving her wide open for a return attack.-

Lilligant: <I think it's time for you to take a break.>

Ria: <Looks like it, I guess.>

-A flurry of leaves whips around Ria, dealing massive damage.-

-Kaito thinks for a moment while the Lilligant rushes alongside the car.-

Kaito: Scott, I think you're gonna have to slow down a tiny bit for this one.

Scott: Sure thing, kid.

-Scott eases off the gas pedal a bit as Kaito sends Dihrao out. The recently-devolved Nidorino stretches as he's released, then notices the car and the Lilligant on the move.-

Dihrao: <...Well hello there~>

Lilligant: <Oh, great.>

-Dihrao trots up next to the Lilligant-

Dihrao: <I really hate to have to meet you like this, perhaps we could chat sometime after this~? I could even— >

Lilligant: <You're barking up the wrong lesbian.>

-Dihrao pauses and blinks, then droops.-

Dihrao: <Oh.>

Lilligant: <Just shut up and fight like you're supposed to, okay?>

Dihrao: <Fine, fine!>

-He jabs the Lilligant with his horn in what can only be described as a poisonous manner.-

-The Lilligant recoils in pain, and uses another, weaker Leaf Storm to blow him away. He tumbles a bit but gets back on his feet quickly.-

Dihrao: <...OH RIGHT I RESIST THE LEAFY THINGS AGAIN>

-He grins cheerfully and rams into the Lilligant again, this time making her topple over.-

Lilligant: <Oof…>

-She tries to get back up, but her legs give way and she falls.-

-They pass onto Route 103-

Dihrao: <Maybe the next one will be a little bit more— >

-Scott's next Pokemon is a Nidoqueen.-

Dihrao: <...Um, you don't need to say anything, I already know it's gonna be a "no".>

Nidoqueen: <You guessed right.>

-She stomps the ground, sending a shockwave that makes Dihrao topple over dramatically.-

Brandon: ...I almost feel bad for the little guy.

Kaito: Don't worry, he takes rejection like a champ.

Brandon: That didn't look like a champ to me.

Scott: Just a heads up, things are gonna be a bit rough for a bit.

-Scott presses a few buttons on his dashboard, and as he drives into the water, the car quickly transforms into a boat.-

Kaito: ...Wow, you really are full of surprises.

Scott: You think that's surprising, wait 'til I get the other one out of the shop!

-The Nidoqueen jumps into the water, rocketing forward with Surf. Kaito considers the scenery, then gets out another Pokeball.-

Lamarr: <Okay, what's oooooooh we're in the water!>

-The Kabutops immediately dives under, swimming along with the boat-car with admirable speed. However, her trip is unpleasantly disrupted by the Nidoqueen sending a Surf shockwave down through the water much like one would use Earthquake on the ground. Kaito winces as Lamarr takes incredible damage.-

Kaito: Yikes…

-Nonetheless, Lamarr regains her senses and jets up through the water under the Nidoqueen, crashing full-force into her with Dive. The Nidoqueen temporarily plunges into the water while Lamarr dives back in, ready for another strike.-

Kaito: Careful— aaaand she's under again.

-Underwater, the Nidoqueen uses another Surf not only to send a shockwave all around her, but to bring her back up to the surface. The current sweeps Lamarr away and slams her into a rock.-

-Kaito bites his lower lip, considering his options as the car and the Nidoqueen make it to dry land again.-

Wilbur: <Okay, my turn, let's make the best of this…>

Nidoqueen: <Don't disappoint me. I already took out two of your friends without breaking a sweat.>

Wilbur: <...Great, how encouraging.>

Kaito: Keep your distance and you should be fine!

Wilbur: <Right, right, let's…>

-The Nidoqueen is already advancing on him when he finally falls silent and uses Psychic to blow her back. He rushes back toward the car as she regains control of her movement again and starts barreling toward him.-

Wilbur: <Aaaaaah why are you back already— >

-He gets Crunched, and tossed forward. He staggers back, and only has enough time to use a Psybeam before she comes back for another, Defense-breaking Crunch.-

Wilbur: <Ugh…>

-He uses one more Psychic to bring the Nidoqueen's health down as far as he can before the inevitable final Crunch.-

Nidoqueen: <Some pig you turned out to be.>

Kaito: ...That Nidoqueen of yours is brutal.

Scott: Should have been prepared to deal with it, kid.

Kaito: I'm… I am prepared. I've got this.

-As they start heading through the Cycling Road underpass on Route 110, Kaito sends out Cassius.-

Kaito: We need to finish this one quick.

Cassius: <Quick, I can do.>

-And he immediately rushes toward the Nidoqueen to Sucker Punch her right as she moves to use an Earthquake.-

Nidoqueen: <Hrk—!>

-Kaito sighs in relief.-

Kaito: All right, next?

Scott: You want quick, right?

-He sends out an Infernape, who flares up excitedly-

Infernape: <This is it! Finally get to do the big one!>

Cassius: <I'll make sure the moment's fleeting.>

-They rush forward along the path. The Infernape makes a few attempts to Mach Punch Cassius, but he constantly manages to duck out of the way.-

Infernape: <Darn it, let me hit you!>

Cassius: <Fine, then.>

-He stops near the edge of the path, and braces himself for a Mach Punch. The Infernape takes the bait, and despite the major damage it does to Cassius, he grabs the Infernape's arm and uses Foul Play to launch him into the water.-

-Normally, a Foul Play wouldn't do particularly much, but in this case, the water stings. After a few moments of bubbles rising, the Infernape leaps back out of the water, drenched and furious.-

Infernape: <YOU WILL    PAY    FOR THAT!>

-In rage, he screeches, and the ground erupts with flames.-

Cassius: <...Worth it.>

-Cassius is scorched and immediately knocked out.

-Shaun and Ruby are walking around and may be interacted with.-

-The Infernape pants as it recharges from its Blast Burn outburst, falling behind the car as it drives into the Mauville gates-

Kaito: It shouldn't take much to finish this one off.

Myra: <Okay, I'll get this over with real quick, then!>

-As Myra blows the exausted Infernape back into the water with an Ominous Wind, Kaito thinks to himself.-

Kaito: (I really need to close this number gap quickly, before it gets too out of hand…)

Haxorus: <Get ready to get wrecked, kid!>

Myra: <I'm 87.>

Kaito: Wait what really

Anabel: You can speak to Pokemon, yet you don't know your team's ages?

Kaito: It never really came up!

-As they make their way toward Verdanturf Town, Myra manages to paralyze the Haxorus and hit it with one Shadow Ball before it manages to knock her out with Outrage.-

Kaito: (Dammit okay yep time to even the odds as much as we can)

Kaito: Ready?

Holly: <Is there even a question? I was born ready.>

Kaito: Then let's do this.

-Holly glows and Mega Evolves, just before the Haxorus's third Outrage wave passes harmlessly by.-

Haxorus: <...Uh… oh…>

Holly: <"Uh-oh" is right.>

-She uses Echoed Voice. The Haxorus cringes the first time, and locks up due to its paralysis. The second one knocks it out.-

-The car comes to a stop in front of Rusturf Tunnel's entrance.-

Scott: Before we move on, mind helping us out, Spenser? I'd ask Holly to 'port us past, but I don't wanna interrupt her Echoed Voice.-

Spenser: Oh, of course.

-He sends out a Claydol, and gives a nod. The Claydol interprets it accordingly and proceeds to Teleport the whole group to the opposite side of the mountain.-

Scott: Alright, thanks, now we can get back down to business!

-He sends out a Tyranitar.-

Tyranitar: <Ooh, this is gonna be good.>

-Scott raises his arm, holding up a sort of wristband with a Key Stone on one side and a strange, much larger stone embedded in the other side.-

Kaito: Somehow, I knew you were gonna follow up with your own Mega.

Scott: Well, of course. I have to take your biggest threat out quickly, don't I?

-Kaito smirks as Holly and the Mega Tyranitar duke it out in the background.-

Kaito: You know my history. You really think Holly's the biggest threat I'm gonna throw at you?

-After being severely weakened by Holly's Echoed Voices, the Tyranitar barely manages to take her out with a series of Thrashes combined with Sand Stream damage.-

Kaito: See, this is exactly the sort of thing I was counting on.

-He sends out Doopliss, who gazes up at the exhausted Mega Tyranitar with a smirk.-

Doopliss: <Wasn't gonna expect my job to be this good.>

-Doopliss grips a Choice Scarf, one of the few items on Kaito's team, in his now-relatively-massive hand and slams it into the ground.-

-The car bounces into Rustboro as the real Tyranitar is felled.-

Doopliss: <All right, bring it on, punk! Show me whose face I gotta break!>

Kaito: I swear that's not his usual personality.

Omastar: <...Okay what the heck? I thought I was supposed to come after the Tyranitar, not fight it!>

Doopliss: <Plot twist, sucker, you get to do both!>

-He slams the ground again, making the Omastar flail to keep its balance.-

Omastar: <This wasn't the plaaaaaan!>

-In a panic, it smashes part of its shell to give itself a speed and power boost.-

-And before Doopliss gets a chance to attack again, it launches a high-powered Hydro Pump at him.-

Doopliss: <...>

Omastar: <...>

Doopliss: <...Come on, seriously, that's the best you can do?>

Omastar: <I'm doomed I'm doomed I'm doomed>

-Doopliss runs up and punts the Omastar, sending it rocketing into a boulder with enough momentum to make the entire area shake.-

-It counts as an Earthquake because I say it does, Slick.-

Brandon: Ouch.

Anabel: That sure didn't look pleasant.

Primeape: <One look at your ugly mug and I've already decided I really don't like you.>

Doopliss: <You do know this is your own ally's ugly mug, right?>

Primeape: <YES. I DO.>

-Doopliss stares blankly, before shaking his head-

Doopliss: <Okay so I'm just gonna take you out real quick so you don't have to see the ugly mug in question.>

-And he uses another, extra-powerful Earthquake…-

-Which sends the Primeape reeling, growing more frustrated by the shaking each passing second.-

Doopliss: <...Oops.>

Primeape: <   I'M GOING TO DESTROY YOU!   >

-And as soon as the shaking stops, it storms forward and delivers a Close Combat, ending with a final punch that sends Doopliss flying all the way across the water on Route 115 and crashing through the entrance to Meteor Falls.-

Kaito: ...Yikes.

The Final Test

-The car makes its way into Meteor Falls so that Kaito can retrieve Doopliss. The Primeape storms into the cave as well, still furious.-

Kaito: Get that Primeape to chill out!

Brecht: <I can— >

-The Primeape advances too quickly for Brecht to finish his sentence, so he drops it in favor of using Psychic as quickly as possible. Unfortunately, it isn't nearly enough, because the Primeape quickly grabs a huge chunk of rock and lobs it at Brecht in fury.-

Brecht: <...You've gotta be kidding me, how does that count as— >

-THUNK-

Kaito: (Dammit, there goes our progress breaking the lead! It's too early to use Pallad, dammit, dammit, dammit…)

Kaito: Quick, stop that thing!

Avada: <Your anger is bringing back very bad memories.>

-Avada uses Psychic, finally knocking the Primeape out.

-Kaito sighs in relief.-

Kaito: (At least that mess is sorted out.)

-The car exits Meteor Falls onto Route 114, somehow unobstructed.-

Weavile: <Oh thank goodness, you dealt with the Primeape. Thank you.>

Avada: <I'm going to guess you're not going to show your thanks by surrendering.>

Weavile: -already lunging forward- <I'm afraid not.>

-Avada is slashed at, and retaliates with an Energy Ball. It's not enough to matter, though, and a second Night Slash takes him out.-

-The car passes through Fallarbor.-

Kaito: (Still too early… you know, this might be Eitr's only chance to do anything significant, so I might as well send him out.)

-The Croagunk looks up at the Weavile.-

Eitr: <...This isn't gonna be fun.>

-Eitr starts doing what he can to fight the Weavile, mostly consisting of Drain Punch.-

Scott: You haven't evolved him yet?

Kaito: At this point, I don't think he can evolve. He was a Glitch Croagunk before the glitch got cured. Trust us, we've tried to work toward evolution for a while.

Scott: Huh.

-SMACK-

-Eitr flies through the soot-coated fields of Route 113, thoroughly unconscious. Miraculously, he managed to deal a fair amount of damage to the Weavile before getting knocked out.-

Kaito: (Still not yet…)

Kaito: Now looks like as good a time as any! Pallad!

-Kaito sends out the rust-coated Shiny Metagross, who looms over the Unfezant Scott sends out.-

Pallad: <~What's the score?~>

Kaito: We're down 10 to 15. We need you to smooth it out.

Pallad: <~It'll be a chore, but it's doable.~>

Unfezant: <...Suddenly I don't feel so good.>

-The Unfezant tries to attack Pallad, but only gets in two measly Night Slashes before it gets Zen Headbutted into unconsciousness.-

Brandon: That sure is one frightening Metagross.

Kaito: He's been in the family for… I think 30 years at this point? Approximately?

-The Raichu in question, interestingly enough, looks darker, softer, and is floating on its own tail. It falters, however, as it sees Pallad.-

Kaito: ...Huh. A Delta?

Spenser: Close, at least in concept. Pikachu evolve into a different form of Raichu in Alola.

Kaito: Huh. Cool.

Raichu: <...W-wha— who is this why's he so scary and why does he have an HP bar over his head>

Pallad: <~I'm a veteran. That should be an adequate answer for all of your questions.~>

-Pallad uses Zen Headbutt again, smacking the Raichu through the gate to Slateport. She gets up, dazed, and uses Thunder on the advancing Metagross.-

Raichu: <...Oh no.>

Pallad: <~Apologies.~>

Anabel: Poor thing.

Kaito: So… I'm guessing she was Psychic-type?

Spenser: That's correct. The best guesses anyone has as to why it acts like that… tend to be rather odd.

Anabel: The general consensus is "pancakes".

Kaito: ...Pancakes.

Anabel: Pancakes.

Kaito: Okay then.

-The Goodra assesses the situation, frowning.-

Goodra: <This is gonna be rough.>

-Despite the unfavorable odds, the Goodra stirs up a Muddy Water and pushes it in Pallad's direction. It, of course, doesn't do particularly much.-

-Pallad shakes off the mud, then launches forward with a Meteor Mash. The Goodra is sent reeling, but manages to pull through the first time.-

-The second time through the pattern, however, it's not so lucky.-

Drapion: <Aha, you're weakened! I get to be the one to finish you off!

Pallad: <~I sincerely wouldn't count on it.~>

-The Drapion lunges at Pallad and Crunches down on one of his legs.-

-Pallad attempts to shake it off, before simply slamming the leg in question down into the ground.-

Drapion: <Oof! That was a bit more than I anticipated, but I can still take you!>

-It Crunches again, harder this time.-

Pallad: <~This is where you stop.~>

-Another Earthquake, and the Drapion falls.-

-The car shifts into its boat mode again, taking off from Slateport's beach. Pallad uses Magnet Rise to follow across the water.-

Kaito: -blinks- That's one I'm not familiar with.

Scott: It's a Vikavolt. Takes a while for it to get moving quickly…

Scott: But when it does, it's something to be reckoned with.

-The Vikavolt dodges an airborne Zen Headbutt, and charges a Zap Cannon aimed at Pallad. He barely avoids it.-

Kaito: ...I love it.

-The second time, Pallad's Zen Headbutt manages to connect, but the Vikavolt manages to survive just fine.-

-The second Zap Cannon hits its mark.-

Kaito: Damn. I'm not even disappointed, just impressed.

Kaito: We can't stand here admiring it forever, though.

-Skye drops a Rock Slide on the Vikavolt. The bug sputters, but recovers from the falling rocks from nowhere, and hits her with a Thunderbolt.-

Skye: <Ow! Didn't think this thing would be Electric-type.>

Kaito: Nothing we can't handle, though, right?

Skye: <I'm almost insulted that you think there'd be a chance of me not being able to handle it.>

-She drops another Rock Slide right as they reach Route 104 again.-

Skye: <Oh, good, we're back on land.>

Cofagrigus: <Quick! Fuse with me!>

Skye: <...No.>

Cofagrigus: <Come on! We can be everything Edge is except able to fly!>

Skye: <That's even less incentive for me to cooperate, honestly.>

Cofagrigus: <Fine, if you won't, then I'll just destroy you instead!>

Skye: <Uh, no, sorry.>

-She Night Slashes the Cofagrigus. Of course, it wraps her in Mummy bandages, but that doesn't particularly matter anyway now that Sturdy isn't relevant.-

Cofagrigus: <Goodbye!>

-The Cofagrigus launches a Shadow Ball right into Skye's face.-

Kaito: (Okay, let's see, what next, what next…)

Kaito: Birnam, do what you can!

Cofagrigus: <Psh, I've never met a tree I couldn't handle.>

Birnam Wood: <Handle this!>

-The Obscura-gifted Sudowoodo lobs a Shadow Ball at the Cofagrigus, who is initially taken by surprise.-

Cofagrigus: <...Well, then. I can do that better!>

-He throws a bigger, stronger Shadow Ball.-

Kaito: ...Oops.

-Suddenly, the car starts sputtering as they reach Petalburg.-

Scott: Looks like we're gonna need to stop for gas. Might as well stop for lunch, although we could easily keep the battle going outside.

Ruby: <Depends, my dear. Do you bear any ill-will towards me or my friends?>

Phaz: So you're from Unova, huh? Never went there myself. Mom once went there for a design contest, but that's it. I heard it's really pretty, though. Where I went though was Kalos, since Mom comes from here. The landscape really is something, even if it sure is something different from the Hoennian climate I'm accustomed to... Now that I think of it Alola really got a close climate compared to Hoenn.

The Final Test

-Kaito, Spenser, Anabel, and Brandon are all sitting at a booth in the Pokemon Center, with the window open. Outside, Pyrite is taking on the Cofagrigus while Scott deals with getting gas in the car..-

Kaito: It was really nice of you guys to come along. The support really does help.

Anabel: Oh, any time!

Brandon: Noland also wanted to tag along, but there wasn't exactly enough space in the car for another one of us.

Kaito: Well, it's the thought that counts.

Spenser: It certainly has been quite an impressive battle so far.

Kaito: Honestly, I'm kinda worried about how it's gonna end up. I, uh, wasn't expecting to need all of my team.

Anabel: Scott definitely doesn't play around when it comes down to it. He seems like all fun and games, but there's a reason he's the head of the Battle Frontier, even beyond being the one who came up with the idea.

Spenser: Speaking of ideas, this car trip battle idea was actually adapted from one of my battles for an old challenger, albeit on a much smaller scale.

-Scott peeks his head through the window.-

Scott: All right, guys, we're ready to roll out again!

Kaito: Oh, good.

-They pack up their leftovers, and head outside and get rolling back toward Oldale again.-

Vo: <Geez, took you long enough to let me do something.>

Kaito: Sorry, it's been a long trip.

Vo: <Whatever.>

-The Delta Dunsparce yawns at the Breloom.-

Breloom: <Hah, you're not…> -yawn- <gonna win like that!>

-The Breloom uses a Sky Uppercut and tries to deck Vo in the face. Unfortunately, when your opponent isn't exactly high above the ground, an uppercut isn't the most accurate attack to use.-

Vo: <The tiredness must be getting to you. I recommend you take a nap.>

-Kaito blinks again. Vo shakes his head and finishes the Breloom off with Dream Eater.-

-Scott waits until he crosses back over Route 103's waters before sending out his next Pokemon.-

Sylveon: -sniff sniff- <You smell weird.>

Vo: <Wow, rude. I showered today.>

Sylveon: <You know that's not what I meant, although I'm calling Taurosshit on that as well.>

Vo: <Even more rude.>

Sylveon: <Psh, whatever.>

-The Sylveon uses Moonblast. Vo takes it relatively well, but it drops his Special Attack power.-

Vo: <...Well, that sucks. Whatever, I was gonna do this anyway!>

-Vo picks a stick up from the ground (since he doesn't have the Staff of Hunger on hand) and jabs it into the Sylveon's side.-

Sylveon: <Ow!>

-The Sylveon is hurt a lot more than she expects to be, and tosses the stick (with Vo attached) away before using another Moonblast. This time, Vo is taken out.-

Alyesha: "Oh, its a really beautiful place. Personally I have yet to visit Kalos."

She stretched, shortly merely enjoying the sunshine

Alyesha: "If the weather in Hoenn is anything like here I certainly will have to visit it sometime~"

By now Fyodor had finished his meal, chirping happily and flying back on Alyesha's shoulder.

-The car makes its way through Mauville once again.-

Kaito: (Okay, final stretch, final stretch…)

-Jazz looms over the Sylveon-

Jazz: <So, this is the problem I need to deal with?>

Sylveon: <...Eeeeep.>

-Jazz Coils to prepare herself. The Sylveon squeaks and tosses a Shadow Ball as she tries to catch up to the car, but gets a Gunk Shot to the face.-

Xatu: <THE END IS NEAR. BUY GOLD AND NON PERISHABLE FOOD ITEMS OR YOU, TOO, WILL PERISH.>

Jazz: <...Oh for the love of...>

-The Xatu emits a Psychic screech, making Jazz cringe. She uses another Gunk Shot, but it isn't enough before she passes out from a second Psychic.-

-Kaito grits his teeth.-

Xatu: <I HAVE FORSEEN THE FUTURE. YOUR END WILL— >

Banjo: <I FORSEE MY FIST IN YOUR FACE, FUTURE BIRD THING!>

Xatu: <...WHAT— >

Excadrill: <YOUUUUU HAVE CROSSED THE THRESHOLD!>

Banjo: <THRESHOLD THIS!>

Smuglord: <WHY HAS EVERYONE BEEN SHOUTING>

Excadrill: <THAT'S WHAT HAPPENS NEAR THE END, PEOPLE GET STRESSED AND START SCREAMING AND CRYING!>

-The Yanmega uses a series of loud Bug Buzzes as it exchanges attacks with Smuglord, but in the distance, there is another, distinctly more colorful buzz.-

-Kaito blinks as he hears the buzzing, and looks around frantically, to see a certain Flygon approaching at top speed, with new dark stripes lining her back and a flurry of rainbow flames surrounding her.-

Kaito: Spectrum! Just in time, thank goodness! You… look different?

Spectrum: <Yep! Ho-oh made me an EX-Pokemon for taking care of Nix for so long, but she still wanted me to stay a while so I couldn't get here right away, sorry! How much did I miss?>

Kaito: Well, to put it simply… you're our last hope. Think you can take on five Pokemon?

Spectrum: <Sure I can! It's time to make the lil bird proud!>

-In the trees Fortree City, a small, red, gold-crested bird head pokes out of the leaves to watch.-

Alli: Wooo! Spectrum!

The Final Test

Yanmega: <Hey, that's no fair, how come you get the rainbow stuff? I want rainbow stuff!>

-The Yanmega whines in a Bug Buzz-y way.-

-Spectrum is only slightly fazed.-

Spectrum: <I'd be glad to give you some of the rainbow stuff!>

-The Yanmega buzzes excitedly-

Yanmega: <Really?>

Spectrum: <Yeah! Take this!>

-She slams into the Yanmega, rainbow flames exploding in front of her.-

-The small bird head pokes out of another tree, following the action.

Florges: <Ack! Such blindingly garish colors!>

Spectrum: <I think you're just jealous~>

Florges: -scoffs- <Jealous? Of course not! This is what I think about it!>

-She launches a Moonblast at Spectrum, who braces herself for the hit. It takes out a good chunk of her health, but not quite the massive damage one would expect.-

Spectrum: <Wow, you're being a real butt, you know?>

-She smacks the Florges away with Iron Tail, dealing massive damage.-

Florges: <Ugh, a vulgar display and a vulgar mouth! You dragons are so uncivilized!>

-She fires another Moonblast. Spectrum is hurt, but more importantly, she's insulted.-

Spectrum: <Now you're just being a jerkface. Stop being a jerkface!>

-She smacks the Florges with another Iron Tail, right in the face.-

Scott: Wow. Not bad. But it doesn't look like your last hope has much left in her.

???: <YOU CAN DO THIS, AUNT SPECTRUM!>

-The various combatants turn their heads to see none other than a certain tiny Ho-oh pop out of the trees.-

Spectrum: <Nix! What are you doing here? I thought you were back at home!>

Kaito: Okay what

Nix: <Don't worry, I left a note for Dad! He probably knows I'm here! Probably.>

-She raises her wings, and an orb of light breaks through the rainclouds.-

Nix: <Anyway, go kick this sword in the tassels for me!>

Spectrum: -buzzes- <You bet I will! This is for you, li'l bird!>

Aegislash: <...Okay, this is unfair. But still, it won't be enough.>

-It uses Sacred Sword on Spectrum, bringing her down to the red. The rainbow flames around her likewise go red.-

Spectrum: <Whether it's enough or not, I won't quit! Not while Li'l Bird is watching!>

-The flames gather around her mouth, and she spits a sun-enhanced Fire Blast. It does major damage, but doesn't knock the Aegislash out.-

Aegislash: <Enough! I'm finishing this now!>

-The Aegislash gathers as much power as it can, and swings its blade into Spectrum as strong as it can.-

Nix: <Aunt Spectrum!>

-The attack finally knocks Spectrum out.-

Kaito: ...Well, that's it, I guess.

Nix: <No, it's not!>

-Nix flies onto the field where Spectrum was, fluffing up her feathers.-

Nix: <It's not over until I say so! And I say I'm gonna make Aunt Spectrum proud!>

-Scott, Kaito, and the other passengers share equally surprised looks.-

Kaito: ...If you say so.

-Nix tosses a Fire Blast at the Aegislash, who, due to recharging from its previous attack, can't do anything to stop it.-

Aegislash: <Oh, come on, this has to be cheating— >

Nix: <If I wanted to cheat, I'd use Sacred Fire, but I promised Dad I wouldn't use it on peoplemons who don't deserve it. And as much of a buttface as that guy was, he didn't deserve it.>

-The Zangoose readies himself to fight, but falters when he sees his opponent.-

Zangoose: <...H-hey, hold on, this wasn't part of the deal!>

Nix: <The deal changed when I decided I wanted to kick butt!>

-The Zangoose panics, using Slash halfheartedly, worried about the implications of attacking a Legendary Pokemon, however small.-

Nix: <...Come on, really?>

Zangoose: <I'm sorryyyyyy!>

-Nix rolls her eyes and uses another Fire Blast. The flames leave the Zangoose with a burn.-

Zangoose: <Ow ow ow ow ow I don't wanna do this anymooooore>

Nix: <Get yourself together! That's, er, a divine order! I don't want to have to beat up someone wimpy!>

-The Zangoose stops, and forces itself to breathe.-

Zangoose: <Okay… okay, I can do this! I don't wanna disappoint!>

Zangoose: <Oww…>

-Pushing past the burn, he smacks the ground, causing a bunch of rocks to fall from seemingly nowhere on top of Nix.-

Nix: <Ouch! See, that's better, now you're not a wimp!>

-The Zangoose's expression brightens-

Zangoose: <R-really?>

Nix <Yeah! Now I can win for real!>

-She glows.-

Zangoose: <...Oh.>

-He starts panicking again, trying another Rock Slide before Nix finishes her attack.-

Nix: <Oof!>

-She breaks out of the rocks and launches forward.-

-The Zangoose barely gets to squeak in terror before it gets slammed into at full force.-

Scott: Well, it looks like you managed to catch up after all. It's down to this, then!

-The Magmortar sees Nix, and grins.-

Magmortar: <...Ohohoho, how wonderful. Today, I get to conquer a god.>

Nix: <Don't let my dad hear you saying that, there's only so much blasphemy he can forgive. That's strike one!>

-The Magmortar chuckles, and drops a Thunderbolt on Nix.-

-Nix sputters a bit upon being struck, but shakes it off.-

Nix: <Wow, strike two and I haven't even attacked yet!>

-She immediately drops to the ground full-force, making everything shake.-

Magmortar: <Hrk— for one so young, you are so powerful… which makes this all the more satisfying!>

-It drops another Thunderbolt. Nix is brought down to the deep red.-

Nix: <...And that is strike three!>

-She starts flying up into the air, high, higher, too high out of the Magmortar's reach. The Magmortar stares incredulously.-

Magmortar: <...What are you doing now…>

-And then she comes crashing down.-

-The impact leaves a small crater in the middle of Lilycove.-

-In the middle of it is a very exhausted young Ho-oh and an unconscious Magmortar.-

Nix: <...And you're out. Game over.>

-She flomps.-

Ruby sighed. <If you mean to be our friend, then yes, Roggenrola, we are friends.>
