<Hopefully they recover like the demons apparently do, eventually and won't be corrupted when that happens.>

Soujin: "Oh, this'll be fun to watch..."

-The Litten watches the battle intently-

Iki Town

-Scarlette sends out her new Popplio. Rose, of course, sends out Domino.-

Popplio: <Aw yeah! I'm first up! Get ready, sparkly bird, because you're about to get your butt kicked by...>

-Beat-

-The Popplio turns around to look at Scarlette instead of Domino, earning a sweatdrop from the Spearow-

Popplio: <...Uh, hey, new trainer girl! Do I get some sort of name here?>

Scarlette: ...Uh, what's wrong?

Rose: Er, your Popplio's asking if you have a name for him.

-Scarlette blinks-

Scarlette: ...Uh... sure, er... Calliope?

Popplio Calliope: <...I have no idea what it means, but sweet!>

-He turns back around to face Domino-

Calliope: <Get ready, because Calliope's about to kick your butt!>

Domino: <Uh, well, I have had a little bit of training that you haven't, so...>

Calliope: <Psh, I can take it!>

Rose: Dom, uh, Peck him, I guess.

Domino: <Right, sorry about this.>

-He hops forward and delivers a single sharp peck right on the head.-

Calliope: <Ouch!>

Scarlette: Okay, so, er, you're a Water-type. Do something with water, I guess?

Calliope: <Water's just what I do! Get a load of this!>

-He spits a jet of water at Domino. It gets him a bit wet, but there's not quite the effect Domino's peck had.-

Domino: <...Well, it wasn't a bad shot, I guess.>

Calliope: <Don't mock me!>

Alola Skies

Marmalade: <Why did I let you talk me into this?>

Ever: Because we share a deep bond forged over years of traveling together?

Marmalade: <Do we?>

Ever: That hurts, Marmalade.

Kid: Hey! What did I just tell you?

Ever: Have you seen a Mimikyu?

Kid: Yeah, he went down around Melemele Island!

Ever: Cool, can you drop me there?

Kid: Wait, wha—

-Ever recalls Marmalade-

Kid: Okay then.

-Ever crashes to the ground-

Ever: Well that sucked.

Muninn: <Mmph.>

Ever: Oh, there you are.

-he digs the Mimikyu out from under himself-

Muninn: <...>

Ever: What do you say when someone does something nice for you?

Muninn: <You're the reason I got smacked between islands in the first place.>

Ever: I mean, fair.

Dune: This is all going over my head. I'm tired. I need sleep.

-Domino ruffles his feathers to get the excess water out.-

Rose: Peck him again, I guess.

-Domino repeats his earlier Peck, leaving a cartoonish bump on Calliope's head-

Calliope: <Ow! You're giving me a headache!>

Domino: <That's kind of the point?>

Scarlette: You can do this, Calliope! Use, uh, whatever you just did!

Calliope: <Water Gun!>

Rose: Water Gun.

Scarlette: Water Gun!

-Calliope beams and uses Water Gun again. It has just about the same effect.-

Domino: <Er, sorry, buddy.>

Rose: Um, again, I guess.

-The third Peck is enough to make Calliope topple over.-

Calliope: <...I'll... get you next time!>

-Scarlette blinks, then slumps.-

Scarlette: Oh... it's already done.

Rose: You still have Gus, don't you?

-Gus, who had been sitting on the sidelines, perks his ears up.-

Gus: <Wait, me?>

Scarlette: Oh— er, right! Gus, are you up to it?

Gus: <Uh— sure! If it makes you happy, I'd love to!>

-Gus scrambles up onto the battlefield.-

Gus: <You can do this, Gus, you can do this. You can totally do this.>

Mezzo: What is this thing anyway?

Nanu: See, the fact that you asked that is proof you're not ready to be my apprentice. Even if I wanted one.

Mezzo: Well, excuse me for wanting to know if the rock you threw at me out of the blue is good for something.

Nanu: If you don't want it, I'll be happy to take it back.

Mezzo: ...No.

Nanu: Then it's good for something.

Trial Guide: Yes, your team of Ice types is very impressive, as is that collection of badges from somewhere I've never been.

Pianis: Does that mean you'll let me through?

Trial Guide: No.

Forte: Well, we sure didn't find anything there.

Shadow: <Personally, I'm fine with never going in there again.>

Iki Town

-Ever, toting Muninn, has at some point appeared off to the side of the Scarlette/Rose battle, and is watching curiously-

Muninn: <I don't know what you find interesting here.>

Ever: What just fainted?

Muninn: -sighs- <That was a Popplio. It's the Water starter here. They suffer from pride, if you ask me.>

Ever: I feel like they're not the only one. What are the other starters?

Muninn: <The Grass starter is Rowlet. It looks sort of like a Hoothoot, but grassier.>

Ever: ...Grassier.

Muninn: -shrugs- <The Fire starter is Litten. It's a cat.>

Ever: I guess that's more helpful than nothing.

Litten: <Hm, guess I'll need to watch out for that Sp->

-She hears Ever talking with Muninn and looks over, a nervous expression creeping over her face-

Litten: -to Soujin- <Hey! Move over that way.>

Soujin: "Uh... why?"

Litten: <Because... we can get a better view there!>

Soujin: "Uh... alright?"

-He and the Litten then move further away from Ever and Muninn, the Litten now sitting on the end opposite them-

Iki Town

-Ever blinks at the Litten-

Ever: I'm sorry about my Mimikyu. He's a terrible person.

Muninn: <Excuse me?>

Ever: I mean, it's true.

-The Litten, not looking at Ever, scoffs-

Litten: <Pff... I don't care about them. Like I told my trainer, I just realized this is just a better spot for viewing the battle.>

Scarlette: Okay, I know what you can do a bit better. Um, Bite!

Gus: <Okay, here goes!>

-Gus runs up to Domino and bites him on the wing. Domino yanks his wing back, a bit more damaged than he was by any of Calliope's attacks.-

Domino: <Ouch, that... actually kinda stung.>

Gus: -beams- <I did good!>

Rose: Okay, uh, let's see, er... Fury Attack, I guess.

-Domino approaches and gives a series of quick pecks that... aren't quite as strong as he'd hoped.-

-Rose blinks-

Rose: Okay, that didn't work...

Scarlette: Um, he's, er, they're called Rockruff. They're Rock-type, so, uh, Normal-type attacks aren't very strong.

Rose: Oh yeah, Kukui called him a Rockruff. I just keep thinking of him as a Gus.

Scarlette: Uh, right, yes, he is also— he's Gus, yeah. Um. Bite again!

-Gus runs up and nips at Domino again.-

Domino: <Ow!>

-He tries to move his wing back into position, but for a moment, it hurts too much to do so.-

Scarlette: Good boy! Um, again!

-Gus wags his tail excitedly, and gives another nip.-

Domino: <Ngh...>

-He finally moves his wing back into place as Gus moves back to a further position.-

Rose: Okay, so, I think Pursuit will work a bit better, right?

Domino: <Oh, sure.>

-As Gus backs up, Domino follows him, causing him to back Gus up near the edge of the stage.-

Gus: <Eep!>

-Once Gus is more or less cornered, Domino gives him a smack with his other, less injured wing.-

Scarlette: Oh no... um, fight back! Hit him back with Tackle!

Gus: <R-right, uh, Gus, be brave!>

-He adjusts himself to stand his ground, and ducks his head and runs into Domino.-

Domino: <Oof...>

Scarlette: ...Uh, did we do it? W-we did it!

Gus: <I did it!>

-Rose smiles, recalling Domino.-

Rose: Hey, that was pretty fun. Congrats, Scarlette.

-Scarlette beams, before letting Calliope back out of his Poke Ball to patch him and Gus up.-

I noticed that Soujin's new Litten is acting weird.

-I walk over to him, my shoulder facing away from him, Heart hidden behind my head-

Light: Yo, is eveything ok? Your Litten is acting.....afraid for some reason? I mean, there's nothing here that can threaten you little fire cat.

-I move and Heart is now in view-

-Heart shyly waves at the Litten-

Soujin: -to Light- "I'm not really sure."

Litten: <...I'm not afraid of anything. I just->

-She notices Heart waving-

<-really want to go back in my ball.>

-She heads over to Hala and fades back in to her ball with a flash of light-

Soujin: "Er... I should... probably get that from him..."

"But, yeah, I'm not totally sure what's going on."

Ever: -blink-

-blink-

(to Souji) Your Litten's a bad liar.

Iki Town

Light: Here, I'll help you figure it out. You want to help Heart?

<Heart: Sure........I don't want a new starter to be afraid. I know the feeling.>

Light:..........Wait, bad liar?

Soujin: -to Ever- "I won't deny that."

-to Light- "Thanks, help'd be appreciated."

-He gets a bit quiet when Light questions Ever on the 'bad liar' bit-

Ah, yes, Melemele Island!

As the location of the Dread Mistress's foul base, it is not often I deign to visit this particular isle. Surely, I think to myself, her corruption must stain all aspects of life there? Indeed, not a visit to Melemele has gone by without Kali Yuga's latest evil plot being sprung on me and my brave squire in the process!

And yet... the call of adventure brings me where it may. Even with her awful tentacled visage looming in my mind's eye, I find myself compelled to steer my adventuring vessel across the sea towards Melemele. What I shall find there, I do not know. Perhaps, as I have long dreamed of, I shall finally get the chance to save visiting humans from the Dread Mistress's machinations! Truly, such an act would be enough to seal my name in the annals of legend!

Adventuring Vessel

Altair: <Uh, that reminds me - what exactly is your name?>

(The Adventurer pauses. This is not a question she has ever been asked before... and, thinking about it, she can't actually answer it. "The great adventurer" had always been sufficient for her narration.)

Altair: <...okay, let's try a question you might actually answer. Who are you talking to right now?>

The Adventurer: <Why, my audience, of course! It is my duty as an adventurer to satisfy them with tales of my exploits!>

(By now, Altair knows better than to press for more details. He'd just confuse himself more.)

As we arrive at the beach, I hear much chatter and the sounds of fierce combat emanating from the human settlement. Egads - Kali Yuga and her dread forces must already be battling the poor humans! I must rescue them at once!

...alas, if it were that simple. Much as it pains me to admit, my lack of visits to Melemele Island has left me with a knowledge of its geography and landmarks best described as "lacking". As I pound through the undergrowth, relying on my feet and instincts, I can only hope my poor legless squire is faring well...

(Altair is lurking on the outskirts of town, idly watching the starter-giving ceremony. He's never watched any sort of human event before, and he must admit, it's a lot more interesting than anything Exeggutor Island had to offer.)

Altair: <She does realise she's running away from this place, right?>

The undergrowth is thinning now. This must be one of those Routes humans carve out for themselves, unwilling to undergo the bracing experience of surmounting harsh terrain as they are. Still I run, though my legs are aching. Who knows what horrors Kali Yuga has inflicted upon the humans by now?

(Alex feels something soft bounce off his leg. Funny - the wild Pokemon around here had been staying away from him, for the most part. Obviously they could sense a team capable of utterly decimating them.)

(He glances down.)

(He stares.)

(The pale blue Vulpix stares right back.)

Alex: ...

The Adventurer: <...>

Alex: ...EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!~

Ever: Well, yeah, you heard her, right?

Muninn: <Is this something humans can normally do?>

Ever: ...You know, now that I think of it, it is not and furthermore I sound nuts right now. (to Light) Sorry, I put on a magic armband that turned me into a Pokemon for a bit and now I can talk to them.

Muninn: <Wait, what?!>

-I bend done to my knee and grasp my necklace in my hand, eyes close and deep in thought. After awhile, I stand back up-

Light: Haven't greeted you yet Mon talker. What's your name and what's your reason for taking these ancient trials? I hope you enjoy your stay at this sunny region as well.

-I smile at this amazing Trainer. I then turn to Soujin-

Light: Now, why don't you get your Litten out Soujin and we can get to work figuring out the problem, yes?

Soujin: -to Ever- "Oh, no, you're fine."

-He then responds to Light-

"Okay, guess we'll see if she's up for talking..."

-He goes to get the Litten's Ball from Hala and sends her out-

Litten: <...What?>

-Scarlette finishes administering healing items to her team members, and then to Domino as well.-

Rose: Oh, uh, thank you for that.

Scarlette: It's the least I could do!

-She stands back up once Domino is healed.-

Rose: So... what now?

Scarlette: Well, since we're done here, but we won't be able to make it quite to Hau'oli City tonight, maybe we could see if Professor Kukui would be willing to give you somewhere to rest? There's a Pokemon Center nearby, but, uh, it'd probably be easier to find housing with him than trying to rent a room or two at the Pokemon Center.

Rose: Well, uh, sure. If he's willing, of course.

Scarlette: Well, it's worth a shot!

-She starts heading back toward Route 1, Gus and Calliope scampering off to follow her. Rose smiles to herself.-

Rose: (Looks like it was definitely the right idea coming here.)

-She returns Domino to his Poke Ball before heading off in the same direction.-

<Heart: Or are you afraid of me? Think that I'm some kind of freak, huh? Going to try to hurt me for being who I am? Go ahead. Hit me with a fire move. I'm sure that you'll like what's under my costume. Then we can see if you think I'm a freak then, right?>

-Heart lets off a creepy little laugh-
