Samantha: The first one was a nightmare that I had before; the one with a million Spinaraks crawling under your skin and spinning webs and stuff. You've had it before, I bet. The second one...well, it was a bit more personal. I don't know if you know this about me, but one of my biggest fears is that of being alone and useless. So, I was totally paralyzed, and I hallucinated the room melting away so that I was alone in a white void. To make it all worse, time felt slower so that it felt a lot longer than it was.

Shun is midway through writing down Samantha's account when he stops. Once she's finished talking, he looks back up, his tone softer and more sympathetic even though the words themselves remain dispassionate.
Shun: ...I think that's all I need to hear for now. Thank you for your time, Miss Kearney.

Shun flushes with embarrassment, and he gets up to leave without glancing again at Samantha. Only once he's halfway up the stairs does he turn to address Gregson.
Shun: Did I-
Gregson answers his unspoken question with a nod.
Gregson: <Yes, you messed up.>
Shun sighs. For a moment, his expression is almost vulnerable, before it settles into his usual indifferent scowl.
Shun: ...It doesn't matter. As long as the culprit is apprehended, my job is done. I don't have to be liked. I only have to be correct.
He disappears into his room.
