This is coming out of nowhere, but I've really never liked the parable of the talents. I never saw why the servant who got one talent should be punished for not making more money.
He was never told to! He was told "look after this" and that's exactly what he did. Okay, so he insulted his master when giving it back, but otherwise what did he do wrong?
As someone who finds others hard to understand at the best of times, it really chafes me to see someone punished for doing what they were told.
Everybody's all "Jerry's old and feeble" till they see him run down a skyscraper and hijack a helicopter mid-flight.Well, even though the servant was likely scared of losing the money, he still could have put it in the bank, giving the king more interest on his return. However, the point of the parable is about faithful use of the gifts God gives us.
Shouldn't there, however, be a distinction between genuine emergency and someone deviously feigning or orchestrating an emergency to get you to dance to their tune?
In an attempt to get more traffic in this thread, if you went to Church today (or even recently), what was the sermon about? Today's was about people trying to make excuses (or worse blaming others) for their sins.
I can help, though I don't identify as Christian?
I recently read an article in Religionnews.com about professor Alan Jacob's insisting on the power of contemplative and reflective thinking. Maybe this'll do.

That article was food for thought.

Even though a lot of people a lot of people would find Red State is be very conservative, I do have to say it's on the money at how Trump's appeal to evangelicals is really shallow pandering.
Anyone here read Bonhoeffer's Life Together recently? If so, I'm having a hard time processing his thoughts on Love. Know it's good, but, you know...yea.

All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but all things edify not.
It's a very American Evangelical thing.
