I would love a CvS3 and even requested it in that survey they put out recently alongside more Mahvel, Darksiders and Mega Man.

Tekken 8 has done 2 million in 2 weeks, Beating out Bandai Namco's expectations.

It took Tekken 7 2 months to get to that number.

I do hope the next CVS does have a have wider span of characters. I understand it's supposed to be a crossover of fighting games, but when King of Fighters itself is a already crossover series, it really feels like KOF vs Street Fighter featuring a few guests. I'd honestly like to see characters from the following make it into CVS3:

  • Metal Slug
  • King of the Monsters
  • Ikari Warriors (Honestly surprised Ralph and Clark haven't appeared yet)
  • World Heroes
  • Ninja Commando
  • Windjammers
  • Buriki One
  • Neo Turf Masters
  • Cool Cool Toon
  • Breath of Fire
  • Power Stone
  • Star Gladiator
  • Bionic Commando
  • Devil May Cry
  • Viewtiful Joe
  • Onimusha
  • Monster Hunter
  • Ace Attorney

Gavan, Let's get jiggy!

Extraordinarily deserved.

Max is THE bridge between the infamously insular and - especially when he first started - at times unfriendly inner community of fighting games and its casual community. He not just reports but understands why hardcore players want what they want, why casual players want what they want, and why developers want what they want, and is able to make conclusions about how games can possibly to be made to satisfy all three groups as much as possible.

He's got that sometimes easy, sometimes hard truth perspective that people getting into the casual side can latch onto and people deep in the hardcore side sometimes need to hear, and I know when I was trying to reconcile my love of fighting games with my experiences with the FGC over a decade ago he was a voice I truly appreciated being able to hear.

(You bet your ass if Max was in charge of Capcom's PR during MVCI and Marvel had said "the X-Men aren't going to be in this game, deal with it," he would've been able to think of a better way to let us know about it besides "lol, they're all just functions anyway, who cares?")

I might even go as far as to say he's one of the voices most responsible for making the FGC the much, much more open and friendly place it is today, and he paved the way for guys like rooflemonger or jmcrofts who hit similar niches.

Yup, absolutely deserved. He's also one of the main guys responsible for Rollback Netcode being as common as it is nowadays, he was banging that drum back when no-one else was, and he was constantly telling developers their games needed Rollback to their face.

Project L, Riot's Fighter game, will be announced tomorrow.

Hey folks, Tomorrow (for real) we'll drop a quick Project L update. It will also be the last Project L update, because we're announcing our actual name and social channels. See you then!

Midori, a Sega leaker, has some alleged details about the new Virtua Fighter that is supposedly in development. Grain of salt:

Virtua Fighter

• It is online and esports focused and has online and offline modes including customization modes.

• There are new characters with a modern art style and character artist.

• It is a game concept that changed many times since 2021 up to now.

• Streaming and spectating implementation is an important part of this title and Super Game concept.

• It is a reboot of the Virtua Fighter series in development by current Virtua Fighter staff.

• It is a title releasing on all major platforms with crossplay and rollback.

• This is a Virtua Fighter title that is developed to be a modern competitor to Street Fighter and Tekken with esports concepts and mechanics that are similar to current Street Fighter and other fighting games. It is a concept that evolved a lot.

• And there is all new main story and side stories with brand new characters.

I'm having difficulty finding a list of easy fighting games. The main problem is that I define "easy" differently from how most people do.

If I try to look for a list of easy fighting games, it's clear that most define "easy" to mean "the mechanics aren't very complicated", whereas I define it to mean "I can beat arcade mode on the lowest settings without much issue". Thus, a game that has complex mechanics but knowing them aren't required for beating single player would be easy for me, whereas a game with simple execution mechanics where arcade mode enemies on easy have frame perfect inputs and reads would be very hard.

I got thinking about this by playing Mv C 2, which is a fun game but I have been unable to beat arcade mode on the lowest difficulty.

If you extend arcade mode to include a story mode, then Street Fighter 6 has a really good one. Some of the fights at the end are legitimately hard, but the game also drowns you in healing items you can use mid-fight.

I want to say the BlazBlue titles had pretty decent story modes, difficulty-wise.

Id say Guilty Gear XX #R, but every boss in that game is 100% bullshit.

On arcade modes specifically, I was able to brute force Street Fighter IV arcade mode consistantly at a time before I could effectively play the game.

Gauro: mark of the wolves. Losing gives you the chance to use an upgrade, which makes trying the fight again mucheasier.

It’s also worth noting that if you’re looking in particular for games where the AI is easier to beat, then the definition of what makes an AI difficult is also starting to change over time.

The classic hard AI in fighting games is that way because the games leans into advantages the player won’t ever have. Like, reading inputs perfectly, perfect movement control, etc. Arcade modes where it’s obvious that the computer is a computer and holds all the cards, etc.

But the dream is to introduce more AI that are hard because they actually play the game well, knowing their character and believably predicting or reacting - but not reading - the player’s action. This leads to single player experiences that aren’t stupidly difficult, and when they’re challenging they feel less frustrating and more engaging - they’re also much, much better for teaching new players how to play.

Games have been trying to do that more often, but it’s difficult to do so for fighting games which have so many things an AI needs to juggle so they defer to the old ways fairly on occasion still (which, amusingly, leads to stuff like the max Level 8 difficulty AI in SF 6, which reached Memetic Badass levels because it does *both* - it perfectly reads inputs *and* it’s extremely good at using the characters and the game’s tools).

[up]x4 Tekken 8's AI Ghost feature is actually a really neat evolution of the CPU-controlled character. Having an AI ghost of yourself learn and evolve based on your own playstyle and emulate it is a really cool concept. It's not perfect—the ghost is still liable to some questionable combo choices, especially when near walls—but it's a huge step up against the old-school CPU that just instantly reads inputs.

For some fun with it, I believe Knee taught his ghost to teabag [lol]
